Just bought mine at the previous price a couple of weeks ago

Edit: Asus website still shows the Ally X at $799 base price. This may be an error or could be Best Buy changed the price too soon. Of course, Asus could be slow to update their own site as well.

Bought a refurb Steam Deck OLED two weeks ago fearing the price was going up. I love it. With the OLED screen, ergonomics, and Steam sales, it's probably the best handheld I've ever owned.

Damn! I'm glad got an X off eBay back in January with a 4TB SDD and a dbrand case included for $900. I've already changed the sticks to TMR and I'm about to do the Xbox Elite dpad mod too.

Swapped to a legion go for bigger screen, and controllers (so can dock to my tv). Was on sale for $500…. Asus thanks for making it an even better deal.

I bought mine 6 months ago and it was already pricey. This price hike is nuts. Mine better not break for a long ass time because I ain't buying shit with that price.

Hold onto your butts.

I overpaid for a gpu. The calculous was that all the rest of the parts for a build are still available at cheap prices for the time being. So I ate shit on the $150 now and built something that I could hang onto for longer than usual. That's my bet.

This is nuts. It's it Asus that's making the Xbox handheld that'll be sold next year?
ASUS is premium tier in the PC space and they are not a budget company. Anything they make will not be relatively cheap.

My issue is it is a mistake buying obscure hardware that not many other people own. There is safety in numbers. Especially in gaming. Obscure hardware means obscure issues. Obscure means low sales means not a lot of money to fix those issues in the future. Obscure can also mean one-off. There may be no part 2, no future. Also, no rep to consider. Nintendo, Valve, Sony, MS all have a rep to consider and will spend big money to preserve that rep. Buy a brand with a reputation that can be damaged and you will have power over your hardware.

This Handheld PC market seems to be going fast enough that I barely feel like I'm keeping up. Every time I feel like I might have a slight idea of what I want (not that I've got spending money for it), there's some new options or pricing changes like this that make me reconsider. But with all that, it's been interesting keeping an eye on this stuff.

Even then, I wouldn't be buying ANY of these things without hours or even days of research first.

So that probably means that Legion Go 2 is going to be over $1K.

It is interesting though because Legion Go Z1E with 32GB of RAM and larger 8" screen is going to be about the same price as Ally X. Smaller battery though which is weird of Lenovo to do.

I guess Asus felt like they had some wiggle room on price competitively. Notice they did not raise the price on the regular Rog Ally. But yeah, Legion Go 2 definitely a grand. So what's that make Rog Ally 2? $1100?

Think these guys are overpricing themselves quite a bit, if so. Steam Deck 2 is going to come in and undercut all of them.

Yep, at $500-700 you could make some justification for these devices. Once you get to $1K, that's becoming gaming laptop territory.
