Wait, wait. It won’t replace Armory Crate… it will add TO Armory Crate by coloring it Green. 😉

I think this could be related to a handheld optimised Windows than Xbox.

They didn’t even show xbox controller when they had a chance.
I am wondering about SoC here. Best they could do would be Z2 Extreme which is rumored to be based on the newish AMD AI 9 HX 370 (brilliant naming AMD 🤦‍♂️) SoC.

GPD and couple other Chinese brands have that chip in their handhelds and performance is kind of all over the place vs Z1 Extreme, but no more than about 20-30% in general.

Thing is all the handhelds with above chip are over $1K and even mini-PCs run about that much.

I hope the Xbox brand can do something to help the ROG brand, because ROG basically means overpriced and unsupported in the near future.

I wonder if those of us with current ally Xs can update the OS or something. I just bought mine last year no way I’m looking to buy another handheld anytime soon. But I’m sure it will be cool. I like ASUS products and general design. Outfitted my whole X299 build with ASUS parts ( mobo, power supply, ASUS branded,NVidia GPU, AIO cooler, NVME PCie expansion card…. I could go on, even the KB/M and even mouse mat.) its been a really reliable build.

So I expect the build quality and design to look pretty cool. Especially if my current ally is anything to go by. But I don’t need it. Too soon.waiting for the next proper Xbox.

What time is it?
Since HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 laughed at my post, I'm going to spill the tea. I've meticulously gone over all the little tidbits he's dropped over the year. Are you ready for this, GAF? He's none other than the myth, the legend, the next Nolan Ryan, the pride of Hinsdale, IL, an Oakland A's royalty, 1990's 14th overall draft pick, Todd mother fucking Van Poppel. How does it feel to be exposed, Todd?

Me too. Either that or the Lenovo with the z2 extreme. Idk why all these companies are dropping like 4 SKUs each. What seperates the Xbox™️ handheld from the regular 39 variants of the Ally? HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 any idea?
These OEMs make their money on retail hardware sales.

So they're incentivized to cover as much as possible of the market with variants and new SKUs.

The only thing you got right was the sport :)

Not bad, but I'm more waiting for the ASUS announcement about Steam OS.

I have no interest in this handheld or SteamOS but if I was looking at what Xbox is doing and what Steam is doing I would 100% be moving towards SteamOS and what they are doing is much more exciting. The main issues SteamOS has right now is the anti-cheat/MP issue. That's the only thing that keeps Xbox competitive here IMO.

I'm confused what you mean by Zen2?

The Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 has 4× Zen5, 8× Zen5c cores and 16 RDNA3.5 CUs, plus an NPU.

That's a really good handheld chip.

"Of course, this news comes out two days before the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct is supposed to be taking place, so in some ways, the ROG Ally Xbox handheld is stealing the Switch 2's thunder.
From a marketing standpoint, that's a pretty smart move

If this thing is like a shrunk down version of the series x, meaning I can play every single game I have downloaded (from the OG Xbox to the series x) then I'm all in on it. If it only going to give me the stuff that the Xbox app has on my PC, then I will pass on it.

Shrunk down version of series x? I think we would be lucky with a shrunk down version of the one x as far rendering power goes.

It’s 100% going to be the latter. The most you can hope for is a better Windows 11 experience on a PC handheld.

That AMD Strix Halo APU is the most hyped I've ever been for an APU. Technically it's the only hype I've ever had for an APU. Hopefully they can cram it into Steam Deck 2 and eventually a BeeLink.

I still think it is adorable that anyone actually thinks MS is going to make an actual OS that isn't a piece of actual dogshit. They cant even make Windows worth a fuck and it is way more of a money maker than this will ever be.

It's going to bank on Play Anywhere, as that has reached a 1000+ games. It will not play Xbox-native games.

I'm curious to see if Xbox can help with a front end that doesn't fucking suck for a handheld.

The Xbox app makes me want to coat hanger unborn children though so I'm not holding out hope.

Just the GPU die is as big as the APU inside the PS5 Pro. There's no way it can go in anything other than an ultra enthusiast product.

Oops, meant Z2 Extreme. Which considering Z1E is going to be mostly same as HX370 hopefully.

The issue is pricing, all the devices with it seem to be quite expensive.

He is talking about playing the XSX games, not power equivalent
How? Will it just downscale? To my knowledge had a device come out later that plays current gen console games that is less powerful than originally designed for. Is this just the pc version licensed?

Yeah.....same way other games downscale for Steam Deck. But this is, more than likely, just a handheld PC like the other Asus handhelds.
