Atomic Heart might be one of the most criminally underrated games ever made, and here I'll explain why (screenshot heavy)

OP, I 100 percent agree with you and this is a thing for both Russia and China games.

I genuinely think Black myth would have gotten a high 80s score if somebody like Sony had published it and it was made by Americans.

With Russia, there's a heavy bias especially since the war started and it's primarily done by American reviewers. Yes, they're not fully negative but all of these 'company bad'reports affect the score by 1-2 points, leading to lower sales eventually.

I think this game would have recieved a score somewhere around 82 metacritic or 80-85 rather than 70 if it wasn't made by Russians.

It's also kind of sad how so many games on steam often region block themselves in Russia, forcing Russians to pirate or not play (and that's despite the fact that Russia is third biggest market for Steam). I'm not surprised that piracy is so rampant in that country and why this game still has denuvo.

I really have never understood the whole 'punishing people' for the actions of their government being so normalized for Russia. You can see how many global events Russia is constantly banned from.

It's said that history is written by the victors, I'd say the victors also hold power of the existing culture. If the USSR had won the cold war, it would have been 'greedy' America and their entertainment constantly treated worse globally.

Anyways, a bit of an off-topic rant but there you go.

This was one game i was really looking forward to after seeing the previews.
So i picked it up day one.
But once i started playing i could just not get into it, i ended up ditching it between 2-3 hours.

It's overrated piece of shit.
yes, art and graphics are fantastic even if it's a bit of a random mix.

But gameplay and characters are ATROCIOUS.
I had to put down the game after 3-4 hours because it was so boring, repetitive and I hated it.
Clunky melee combat which gets really janky and spongy.
The main character and glove also NEVER SHUT UP and are extremely annoying.
People were complaining about forspoken banter?! It's nothing compared to this game.

Finally started my first playthrough this weekend as I figured now was the perfect time to jump in with all of the new Mundfish projects being announced.

That opening sequence is quite something isn't it? I was amazed by the level of visual detail but also how well the performance was holding up on ageing hardware (6800XT + 5800X3D). About 2 to 3 hours in so far and while the writing is subpar at the best of times (probably a case of lots of things being lost in translation or just poor localisation in general) I do very much enjoy it overall. It's got such a unique vibe to it and if they maintain this over the course of the entire game then it looks like I'm in for a treat!

Any must-know tips y'all got for ya boi?

I think people judge the voice acting too harshly and most likely never played much further into the game. The voice acting is as is for a reason. The protagonist is in "ignorance is bliss mode, everything is fine, life is great" but the voice direction does change the further you get into the game. Without spoiling, the voice acting gets more serious later as the protagonist isn't ignorant anymore and there is no bliss

Graphics are good, combat can be fun, and the premise is interesting. Sim aspects are well realised as well. All let down by probably one of the worst protagonists in video games, banter that makes MCU quips look like Shakespeare, and an upgrade station that is completely bizarre, off-putting, and extremely unfunny.

For the sequel I hope they kept the gameplay designers, but replaced the writers and casting directors.

It's just decent nothing more unfortunately, the FPS genre has become stale and boring. We need the next leap forward, we need that HL2 moment again, to captivate us and show us what can be achieved especially with the tech available today.

I heard playing it with Russian language is much better. Or maybe it's just as bad, but since many can't understand then it doesn't appear that way.

The lock locking shit ruined the game for me. It was fucking awful.
Oh yeah all of the mini-games for the door unlocking stuff is already breaking the flow so much.

Do they really not give you a "press button to unlock" skill later on or something?

Still the coolest mechanic when it comes to searching drawers etc grabbing multiple items. That vacuum effect with your glove and the feedback is so good.

The game is great, while it does borrow lots of mechanics from other games it does so in a way that feels fresh enough, and the art direction is absolutely stunning. I have no idea why the reception was as lukewarm as it was.

It's a great game but has some issues. I actually only got around to it a few months ago. I still have the last DLC to finish.

The game is too bloated and the open world stuff was not good. The story while interesting was at times incoherent and could have used a bit more time in the oven. I also ended up playing a lot more melee than I prefer in my FPShooters.

That said art design was phenomenal and some of the combat scenarios were great. Weapons were cool as well as the upgrade system.

After playing it I can honestly say Atomic heart 2 is one of my most anticipated games.
