Austin see's the potential from Ambrose and doesn't want him to get soft now that he's champion. He gave him sound advice that many people in the industry would kill to get from a legend like Austin. I hope he takes it to heart.

Monday Night Ram (this is what they call it now, right?) is so much better now that every time someone is doing something you like, JBL isn't there shitting all over it on commentary.

The Austin/Ambrose interview was entertaining.

- Dean clearly does not want to dig through his old dirty laundry, and Austin pressing him on it for a little too long brought a lot to the interview. There's definitely a sob story there, but Dean ain't having it and has built up a wall of slight loner tendencies and (over?) confidence to compensate, neither of which are necessarily a negative.

- Dean opened up a lot more after that when the discussion shifted to wrestling, and went on decently long monologues and rants that help to put a lot of what we see into context. He's obviously a wrestling geek at heart and takes The Business™ seriously in some ways, but his upbringing and personality are at odds with that part of him. You can also start to see Austin get a little frustrated at his inability to pin down what Dean Ambrose is and how his mind works.

- Then the real interesting part of the interview: Austin prodding Ambrose to make sure he reaches his potential. I genuinely think Ambrose was offended when Austin said he's been resting on his laurels a bit, but similar to the story Ambrose told about the producer saying something that he never forgot, he reverted back to his tendencies and internalized the whole thing, refusing to give Austin the energy or response he wanted. If Dean ever fires back, it'll be in the ring. (although I also think part of what Austin was referring to was Ambrose's soft ring work. Austin constantly references the way he used to "lay in" his strikes and bring a tenacity to his moves, but he didn't want to directly call him out.)

- "Artistically, Brock didn't want to do anything." lmao, that's my Brock. Get your money, don't do anything, still be better than anyone on the roster.

I think it's a more interesting interview when reading between the lines. Sure Dean goes off on scripted promos or whatever, but the clash of personalities here is great.

The problem with that interview was the difference of styles (listen to Ambrose on Jericho's podcast which is closer to Ambrose's style), Austin trying to get info on Ambrose's past which he didn't want, Austin having a blueprint to go by rather than being able to shoot the shit like his normal podcast and Ambrose's chill style. I know dudes like that. They're just always like that. Austin is more rapid fire and with a time limit they don't work well. Ambrose was himself out of kayfabe. That's how he always acts in these interviews when he's being real. He's not drunk or high, that's him.

As for the ending part, we will see a new Ambrose now. Even before that Ambrose said he was going to turn it up. Now with Austin's advice he's more fired up than ever. Can't wait to see SD tomorrow.

Great interview.

Roman was great last night. Fun to see the people in the thread bury him when he comes out and then begrudgingly admit he's "sort of okay" :lol

Also, Finn promo was amazing. As was the sit-down interviews, and the Gallows/Anderson bit... more pre-taped promos please!

That was the worst post current brand split Raw from the awful opening segment to the wedding shit that went on for what felt like an hour, Lana looking hot didn't save it. Other stuff happened I guess. I'm sure there was good stuff too but I'm too damn tired to remember it.

Austin out for blood and a more open interview.

Brock being the reason the 'Mania match sucked sure explains a lot. So much wasted potential, smh.

I don't know what kind of hard drugs Dean Ambrose was doing during high school, but I'm pretty sure I never want to even look at the stuff, that shit fucked a boy up.

He did a tour in Puerto Rico and lost half his body weight while barely eating and doings mountains of drugs. When he came back to America he thankfully sobered up cos otherwise boy would be dead.

People talk about WWE not having interesting charismatic drug addled wife beating carnies anymore like back in the glory days but Dean is that (minus the wife beating so far) but THAT'S NOT WHAT THE WWE IS LOOKING FOR ANYMORE.

Ambrose's hair looks nicer when dry. When it's wet I can't stop thinking his hairline is receding. It's not Baron Corbin levels of "dude, please just shave bald" but still hard to not notice. I know it doesn't fit the character and well he'd lose a nickname if he did it but I wish he'd go back to slicking it back like he did during his Shield days.

Sooo if i hear Ambrose i would swear the guy is so talented and is giving sooo much but he's been limited by the laziness around him right ?? lol..
How many matches did i see where this guy was doing nothing and being carried by someone else..

The Lesnar match was bad cause he's just not tough enough to make us believe he will punish Lesnar at any point. It should have been the other story, where he was surviving. Even that horrible match with Jericho was only saved in the end by Jericho going the higher level in intensity.
Ambrose is like anti wrestling.

Austin should have asked him why the Y2J match sucked.

Y2J has had some great to solid matches.. Why did the one with Dean suck so much...

The AJ matches with Jericho sucked tbh

When AJ can't take you to at least a 3 and a quarter star match you got issues.

Not to lessen the blame on Ambrose for that travesty of a match though.

The Lesnar match was bad because we were told it was a no holds barred street fight hyped up with Ambrose getting all sorts of weapons teased. In the end it barely left the ring and we got chairs and a stick. Nothing more. The match could have been a fun weapon spotfest which would be how Ambrose could get on even level with Brock but judging by that interview, Brock was having none of that. I'm not gonna blame Ambrose for being pissed off over it.

Austin should have asked him why the Y2J match sucked.

They had to go an extra 10-15 minutes 'cause a McMahon segment got cut. That extra time really showed how painful the match was as they had to drag it out.

Y2J has possible matches with AJ.

He had an all time shit show with Dean.

Like when Dean jumps off the cage for no reason

Fair enough. It was an inexcusable abomination of a match.

I'm a bit out of touch with the wrasslin' these days, and the G1 has passed me by completely this year. Have I missed anything of note? Any G1 matches worth viewing to catch up?

Could Boots, Empyrean Heaven, or anyone post the list of essential matches from the G1? I'm going to make an effort to catch up this week.

In Boots we trust. I look forward to catching up.

Do they still have the lame house show single camera shows for some of the rounds this year? Those productions didn't do the ringwork any justice.

EDIT: Thanks Klonere, I look forward to digging in this evening...

Who's likely to win? Apart from the always likely Tanadough, I mean. Naito's year?

It's down to Tana, Naito and Marufuji in my mind. I think on Friday its all down to whether Tana wins or loses his match, everybody else is relying on that to get through in the A Block.

It really wouldn't surprise me if Tana/Okada headlines Wrestle kingdom until the day one of them dies.

Looking forward to my catch up session, cheers again.

I actually liked this Roman segment on Raw, he was funny coming out with that "being your bestman"-thing he had. This is the right feud for him now.

Dean showed more passion at the tail end of that stone cold interview but I felt like stone cold at times, just stunned at his complacency and too chill attitude. I don't know if this dude brought kayfabe with him to this interview or not.

Infuriating interview. Dean came off as someone with little substance.

I think Dean is putting in his best work since the early Shield days since he won the title so I can understand why he was taken aback by the complacency accusation. Shit, dude helped make Dolph Ziggler look interesting last week. Dolph Ziggler! I would have understood that if this interview happened while he was toiling away in pointless midcard feuds but not now.

Overall I thought the interview was fine once it shifted to wrestling. Dean obviously isn't comfortable talking about his personal life and former demons so Austin shouldn't have prodded him so much on it.

So now that NMSis shipping and the insane fans are now getting angry, what would be the wrestling equivalent?

People that watch wrestling.

Yup, totally agree. Once it went into wrestling it was a great watch.

I thought he was a bit stiff but it's obvious the crowd likes him a lot more when he's not being pushed to the moon. This Rusev feud is right for him.
