When I bought my PS3 there was an advertised deal where they threw in 3 free Blu-ray movies (Casino Royale, one of the Spider-Man movies, and Ghost Rider). It was two months before they sent them to me, and only after I got the ACCC involved.
My advice is contact the ACCC/Fair Trading in your state immediately, it takes them a fortnight before they even look at things on average.

I got the impression they just didn't have the resources to deal with it properly and were getting through them, just very slowly.
I've also won a shitload of stuff via Sony competitions so won't be too harsh on them

The problem with the ABC thing is that even people who have used and benefited from the service in the past and should be able to see the value in it will turn on it if feed contrary opinions from peeps like Hadley (e.g. my truck driving father who used to watch a good bit of stuff on Aunty but now considers it evil because the commercial radio told him so). People generally are easily swayed regardless of facts and I'm really worried that the whole thing is going to wind up going that way.
If anything we should be boosting funding for both the ABC and SBS which provide fantastic services overall and deserve more money to continue doing so but I can see them both being completely disbanded or privatised before that ever happens.

The RetroAchievements thing works nicely! Obviously it's on a game-by-game basis but it's nice and works well.

I'm up way too late programming again. I want to make a multiplayer (local and later, p2p) asteroids pvp game.
So I felt like adding in asteroids could be a cool thing to distract and annoy the pvpers. Apparently I need to learn more about unity. ORRRR i need to sleep. probably sleep

Australia one of, if not the most, pro-X1 country in the world? Check.

Sure works out great for all those Aussies who continued to support Microsoft over the PS4!
It's a shitty situation but to be fair there is an Azure data centre being built in Australia, it just won't be ready until the end of the year. And a gaming console is hardly a good enough financial reason on its own to build said data centre in such a small country. That said this is something Microsoft should have addressed a while ago and at least rented some rack space from another DC to accomodate services in the meantime.

Australia sold 6.5% Xbox Ones on launch day that sold in the US (or, to put it another way, more than 15 times what they sold in Australia). I think it's fair to say that we're not even 5% of the global market. Why would you bother spending money on infrastructure in Australia when most of the players will use the same servers in the US and just live with it?
