100 down 40 up, JaceC. My only regret is being on telstra and not having unmetered steam.

I'm hoping that the 250Mb/100Mb tier is more affordable by the time my area goes live (I don't think any ISPs are offering it just yet, in fact), but even if that doesn't happen, 100Mb/40Mb is nothing to sneeze at (I'm currently synced at ~4.94Mb/0.38Mb). As far as plans are concerned, iiNet's 500GB + 500GB one has long been the apple of my eye, although if a slightly cheaper 250GB + 250GB plan pops up in the interim I may opt for it instead.

250/100 is a thing that exists?

Never seen that anywhere tbh :/

I'd be happy at this speed for the next decade tbh, but I just need the cap to go up! 500GB sounds like tons but when you're shacked up with three other people, two of whom are heavy users as well, and you have these kinds of speeds, it can get damn close to the limit. I think back on ADSL2, we were hitting 350 gb/month on average.

Got around 6 codes for a free month of Foxtel Play, don't need 'em. Any takers?

Well I'd ask for one just to play around with (I have no intention of giving Foxtel money) if I could work out what my issue is with logging in. Its not my username and password as they work fine.

And i don't think its due to my PS4 using getflix for DNS (as my PC does too).

Ha, even our shitty shopping plaza in the middle of the 'lower socioeconomic slum area' has a newsagent that always has Retro Gamer :)

Also can I donate so you don't show your mug on camera?

$5 a month gets video chats, $6 a month gets video chats where I'm replaced by a Dave Perry voodoo doll that I keep throwing out but keeps reappearing.

And yeah, my crappy, crappy, punchline-to-any-joke suburb has tons of newaagents that carry Retro Gamer, but I can never get there while they're open because I'M THE ONLY PERSON WHO LIVES IN THIS TOWN THAT HAS A JOB

Install a porn blocker and blame it on your ISP.

The NBN rollout has finally begun in my area, no thanks to those slack gits at Syntheo (construction "commenced" in my area in September 2012 but there's been no activity until now). I'm just going to quote my Whirlpool post:

I think I'll cry tears of joy once I start seeing that lovely green fibre being hauled.

Rodding, roping and most of the pits have been replaced in my area (4APL-05) over the last few months but am still in a "construction has not commenced" status. It stays this way until contracts are issues (which I believe is close to the end of remediation). Having said that I won't be optimistic about anything happening until I see an NTD on the side of my house. For all we know these remediation contracts were ones they couldn't get out of and then nothing after happens. The funny thing is, I have seen Telstra in the area remediating the copper (you read that right) just 2 months ago. I hope for your sake you actually move into the next phase but I wouldn't get too excited just yet, it's totally possible you end up with FTTN or even no NBN whatsoever. After seeing how inept and evasive Malcolm Turnbull has been over the last few months, nothing would surprise me.

I don't believe any ISP is offering yet but technically they can offer up to 1000/400 if they chose to. Don't at all be surprised if these speeds are moved from the wholesale offerings entirely as to not create an even further gap from Cable and (the eventual) vectoring over DSL.

Yeah, as of December or so NBN Co now offers 250Mb/100Mb, 500Mb/200Mb and 1Gb/400Mb, but their wholesale prices are much higher, which is likely a big part of the reason why nobody seems to be offering such plans just yet:

100Mb/40Mb is firmly in the "sweet spot".

It's definitely due to upcoming work. Syntheo was supposed to hit my area 20 months ago but never did, so literally nothing ever happened, and Downer's since taken over its role as the prime contractor for the state. I also don't think the switch to FTTN is actually going to happen despite the small trials that are underway (the comparative cost benefit is relatively minuscule in the short-term and non-existent in the long, and there's enough red tape involved to see the Libs through to the next election), but time will tell on that front.

Just finished my first week out of my 10-day primary school placement.. in a word it's exhausting I feel like I've been completely cut off from civilization all week! but it's so satisfying. I've managed to attend my first ever school camp and got my first-ever school photo taken because of the process. :) (because I was homeschooled lulz).

Can't wait to teach my first-ever lesson next week!

Odd, everyone had been commenting that Delsin was nowhere near as douchey as they expected.
Maybe it depends if you go good or evil? I hope he goes full douche when evil.

Now I think of it, I'd love an open-worlder where the main protagonist is some kind of megadouche. Think equal parts Nick Kroll's Bobby Bottleservice and his character in Rich Dicks.

They "started" work in June of last year in my area. They finally started doing work in March. Still got to wait a bit though.

1 Mbps upstream is NOT acceptable! I really hope the wireless isn't just that speed >_<

Congrats! Get any odd stories out of the kids?

Like Trevor from GTA5?

Not exactly - there's been a lot of awesome experiences but they are very contextual.. the preps/grades 1 I have this year don't say any crazy things unlike the grade 3/4s I had last year - I do find it interesting how the student I'm probably going do my assignment on is the daughter of a famous australian artist though.. and I'm like "that totally explains her quirky personality"

It's no open world game, but Telltale's Wolf Among Us is a pretty great asshole dialogue simulator.

I didn't mind Second Son's second son, his dialogue delivery was pretty good and the character had its moments, but boy is there nothing interesting going on in that game's story. That console's been pretty slow with releases along with everything else this generation, so I guess it'll have to do until more first party stuff starts hitting sometime in 2016.

Downer has done an absolutely excellent job of picking up Syntheo's slack over the past 8 or so months here in WA. If Telstra finishes up in my area within the next few months there's a very real chance of the entire FSAM being live a year from now (and individual FDHs before that).

Wireless was bumped up to 25Mb/5Mb last year. Speaking of, a tower recently went live near(ish) a mate's place and according to the rollout map about half of his property is covered. I've been meaning to ask him to call NBN Co as there's a distinct possibility that his man cave is just within the coverage area.

Um, this looks kind of badarse. Almost completely devoid of all creativity and kind of soulless, but if it feels like Final Fight/Streets of Rage/TMNT arcade etc., I'll be super up for it.

I also suspect Dragon's Crown is a game that feels like that, but fuck paying retail (or anything) for that. PS+ fo' lyfe.

What's up with titanfall pc servers in aus? Takes ages to get into a game. Is no one playing?
And why is the ping so high on the aus data centre?

I don't play but I do recall the servers that launched after the game came out were low ping at the time, pretty sure it was marked Beta Australia Server or something. Maybe they've shifted it.

The PC population is dropping. I wished I'd gotten the game on X1 instead. It looks rubbish on a decent PC. The last few days, every game I've played has ended up with ridiculously lopside scores.

That said, I haven't played much of anything else since it came out. 6 weeks is a decent run for a MP game for me. I really should back to Second Son soon.

A Vita question.

With an Australian Vita how would you get the Crunchyroll app on it? Does that force me to have a US formated Vita memory card?

Garnet Lees comments the other day were interesting. Basic no players around at his level (15 or so) or lower anymore just all super experienced/high level dudes. I assume he was talking about XB1. So I guess sales seem to have stalled.

Anyone who has finished TLoU should watch the making-of doco they did on it. Great insight into the insane amount of work required, everyone worked their arse off for it. Even the actors put in an insane amount of time and effort.

I assumed they stalled since the prices of the PC/X1 versions were slashed heavily only a fortnight or so after launch, more so than any other game in the last 12 months. Being MP only it makes sense you want to get as many people on board as possible, regardless of the cost, as you can make up the difference by keeping the community big and selling a shit ton of DLC that they already have planned.

For some reason, the aus server is pinged at like 180 on the menu screen, but when I play in game my ping is around 30.
And yeah, it seems like the community is pretty thin. Have to wait ages for a game and then I get smashed. Oh well it seems like fun anyway

i read Keighley's Titanfall book- if you have interest in videogame development, you should read, so good. Its a miracle the thing ever came out, let along being half as good
some prototypes on the Ratchet and Clank engine,
the activision lawsuits lawsuit really fucked up development.
They asked MS and Sony for an early look at next gen hardware- MS said, sure. Sony says nope, but how about a Vita version?

Another book I'm reading is the Making of The return of the Jedi, Some of the script conference stuff where George Lucas outlines the entire plot of at least episode 3 back in 1981 is fascinating.

also Top Secret is now on netflix!

Yeah. Been meaning to get the Keighly book. I liked the Portal one, and even if the game was of no interest I want to support this kinds of games journalism.

EDIT: that reminds me I still have to go back that History of Eve Online book kickstarter.

That said, whilst I'm no shooter guy, I kind of hoped they might have solved the problem of online multiplayer shooters where over time all thats left is the super competent veterans that turns away new players.

Most definitely. My favourite movies of all time, I won't miss a chance to see them at the cinema.

I watched all 6 back to back on blu ray just last month, so not sure if I want to sit for 6 hours in the theater. I'll make up my mind by tonight. $25 is a decent price for the original trilogy cinematic version.

Isn't that a problem with almost all competitive multiplayer? MOBA, Racing games, fighting games, RTS, etc

Bugs aside, the first two months of any shooter are usually the best for me. after that, it's just the fuckers who play these things 6 hours a day.

Probably. Starcraft and its matchmaking seemed to make that work for a good while. Of course even the bets matchmaking isn't worth damn if there's no players of you skill level to be matched with.

And post COD4 with shooters the whole leveling and gear thing I'd argue made it all worse where you get dropping in a game where folks have gear and abilities you just don't have access too.

Of course the easy answer is always just play private matches with your friends with any online game.

$25 is a great price to experience on the big screen. I'm so pumped.

Probably not worth it if you've only just watched them all again.

Darth Maul's return was end of season 4.

Season 5 had a bunch of linked episodes involving Darth Maul, Jedi younglings, Death Watch, and ended with a multi-episode plot involving the Jedi Temple and Ahsoka, which was pretty great.

Season 6 fills in missing pieces between episode 2 and 3, so it should be good too. Palpatine's experimentation with clones to assassinate Jedis, Yoda reconnecting with the force and Qui-Gon's spirit, Sifo-Dyas' disappearance and Sith lords. :)
