How is Optus as an ISP provider? Once I'm married later this year I'm thinking of getting on their unlimited plan.

Currently in an iinet household, which is still really great.

Oh, Dead Man, there is no day-1 patch on Steam. It downloads the updated version autmoatically if you bought it digital. The download size is actually 40GB, not 50.

My co-worker has just successfully left Optus after they stuffed her around for 3 months. They were tracker her at 1GB a day data despite it being a wired connection with not much more than Facebooking.

Not recommended.

Nah, that plus the game download. 200gb cap. Not a deal breaker since I only buy new release games occasionally so it normally doesn't bother me to wait a bit to play if I am near my cap. Still, with a game this size and wanting to get in on the hype train it is a bit irritating.
Same situation here, so I went with a physical copy from Dick Smith for $65. I figure if I ever need to delete it off my HDD to free up space temporarily, then it's much easier to reinstall from the Blu-ray than it is to download the whole bloody thing again.

Why? He'd probably be all for in-engine cutscenes, where all the bulk (ALL THE BULK) I've seen in majority of new games (Witcher 2, Max Payne 3) has been in these goddamned Bink files.

It was almost $60 worth. I said lots of people had similar problems where their account had been abused, didn't mention you by name though! I remarked about the ACCC being quite clear about instances such as this where accounts are vulnerable due to the provider having exploitable systems so maybe that helped in my favour.

I hope this doesn't mean our GT6 transaction any harm!!!
Yeah, mine was the same value. Don't stress about our transaction, everything's as good as yours anyway :) I forgot what we agreed on... it was SS for just the wheel or was GT6 thrown in as well? I forget :(

No need to feel guilty, buddy. Unless it was you who ripped me off by hacking into my account. You never did explain that bronze FIFA trophy you have...

Talking about ISP choices started me thinking about old ISPs we used to use.

The first one I used was Starvision.net.au, a locally run system run by a guy who had somehow leased a T1 line (a whopping 1.5mbs) and was charging people to connect to.

For a whopping $40 a month (that I had to direct deposit into someone's account by visiting the bank since there wasn't really internet banking back then) they got me 40 whole hours of internet access at a whopping 28.8kbs connection! That gave me an amazing 1 hour a night of internet which I used to update my first website, since they also generously gave me 2 whole megabytes of space to run a website from. I spent a lot of time shaving half a kilobyte from screenshots here and there to stay under the limit :)

the rest of the time I just used my friend's UQ dialup access she didn't know how to use

EDIT: Huh, turns out that URL now points to an adult dating site now, hahah, awesome.

First ISP we ever used was the one QUT ran. I remember looking up a lot of cheats for Pokémon (Blue was the only game I played at the time) and downloading a lot of music from oth.net

There was a good deal of porn as well, given that I *was* 13 and hormones were doing a number on me. Waiting up to a minute for a low-res scanned photo to load line-by-line is a type of anxiety you 90s and 00s kids will never understand.

Anyone have any good recommendations for internet dongles? I have a 45+ min commute on the train and don't want to sit around reading GAF nonstop. Rather bust open the laptop and do some work.

I guess technically my first one with live access to the internet was Newcastle Uni which sold shell accounts for a time that you connected to with dialup.

Hmm I can't recall exactly, it was for GT as well as the wireless headphones (as my G930's had crapped out at the time). I can't rememberrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr >.>

Nah you can tell by the date/time on the trophy :)

Will you be using your Robert Ashley impersonation voice like you do when you're on serious podcasts?

Will listen.

Rep, what's the usual timeframe for Bethesda console games to drop in price?

I was planning on using my Sid Meier voice, but now you've got me thinking.

Damn I was excited about the Surface 3 until I saw the news about the pen it uses. Happy to stick to my 2 for a loooong while yet then :)

It sounds pretty great actually, just had a quick read now. The biggest problem is that none of the Surfaces seem to be suited to actually being used on, you know, a lap. They're all designed to be used as a tablet or a laptop on a flat surface. If you want to type a lot with the thing on your lap, there doesn't seem to be anything that can do it.

Stuff like Dishonoured and Doom 3 BFG dropped relatively quickly, within 3 months the last gen versions will be under $50 easily. PC version is likely to drop down to the $30 mark by then too due to sales.

NFI on PS4/X1 version though, if it sells well I wouldn't expect it to drop as quickly as Killzone/Thief has. Maybe around the $40 mark by Xmas.

WAIT

You live in the US now. I keep forgetting that. The current gen versions are likely to hit decent prices over there, especially with all the friggin 2 for 1 deals Target et all do there. I'll let you know if I see anything hit. How much is it on PSN over there?

Man that'd be real nice...but we'd get it at 60-70 at most for PS4/XB1.

My Thinkpad Yoga arrived yesterday. It works pretty well for this. It has a great keyboard, I can angle it how I want, and tent mode is pretty cool too. It's quite bulky for a tablet though, so the choice between this and the surface is basically whether you primarily want a tablet or a laptop. I guess the Surface 3 will be pretty bulky as a tablet too, but not as bulky as the TPY.

For typing, yeah it's not the best though I seem to have gotten used to typing with it on my lap while I prop my legs up a bit. It looks like the new model addresses that with more positions for the backstand.

I was having a devil of a time using Photoshop on it because I needed the keyboard out for the shortcuts, but the new Wacom drivers that bring up a context wheel menu were a Godsend.

I'll be interested in hearing from artists what they think of the new pen and digitiser...

$60+ $6 tax. I just remember waiting six months for Skyrim to come down and it barely shifted but Rage was $10 within weeks of it coming out. I guess it depends on whether Wolfenstein is a decent success or not.

They are really pushing Watch_Dogs deals here so I'm guessing that will overshadow Wolfenstein. I'm not touching WD for a while, there' a major summer drought until Destiny turns up so I'm in no hurry.
I can't seem to muster up interest in playing games at the moment. I played a teeny bit of hearthstone and that's okay, even if card games aren't my usual preference.

Speaking of Hearthstone, actually got a Legendary yesterday. Which isn't super useful as I only really like playing the Arena. Just wish it was quicker to generate in game currency to get access.

Nice, Dick Smith had it at retail for $65!

Skyrim was a sales powerhouse so the price stayed up for 12 months easily. Even the GOTY edition is still a little pricey.

RAGE didn't hit sales targets so it ended up getting firesaled by a lot of retailers rather than send them back to Beth.

I hope Wolf does well. It's a fantastic package. The polish, density and presentation is top notch. Cutscenes are really well done. Feels amazing too.

Watch Dogs has firmed as a must have for me. The Ubi marketing machine will make sure it sells a fuckton of copies but it shouldn't take too much away from Wolf due to the differing genres, aside from the "I got no cash!" issue for consumers. Was hoping Beth got reviews out earlier to hype up "It's not shit!" as a lot of people (myself included) were waiting for impressions to hit before ponying up the cash. Even get onto those stupid popular Youtubers and get them to pimp it to the masses.

Just received this in an email promoting a DJ at a club night:
Rebekah capture’s and share’s her energy through her DJ sets
Fuck's sake.

Edit: Rep, I might nick WD from you if you finish with it in the next few months or something (and would part with it cheaper than whatever discounted price it gets to).

Hah, that's been doing the rounds over the last few days. Not their funniest, but not bad. I think my favourite of theirs is this, only because of how short it is.

Decided to boot up Black Ops 2 on the 360 yesterday after not playing it for a year. Despite the odd shitty spawn this game is amazing.

Whats wrong with the new pen?

It looks like an intetesting tablet, but I have no need for a laptop replacement. Plus I'm quite wedded to the google services ecosystem, which for the tablet side of things makes Windows8 problematic. Tne only option would be crwating custom tiles that link to web pages.

I'm still not convinced by its lap stability though with the weight all in the screen rather than tne typing surface.

The new pen isn't using Wacom technology, it's using N-Trig which does not have a good track record and offers less fidelity with pressure sensitivity. I'm pretty sure 99% of Surface users won't give a crap (I do kinda like how you can turn the machine on with pressing a button on the pen) but the sole reason I bought my SP2 was because it had a Wacom pen / screen.

I'm waiting to hear what Gabe from Penny Arcade says about it.

I use Google for pretty much everything and don't have any problems, but I spend most of the time in the old desktop mode not the fancy Metro interface.

Using it on your lap is fine. That backstand all the weight rests on is a lot sturdier than it looks.

Still...I wanna see what it's like in person...probably won't buy it (I feel like I just got my SP2 which I love like I haven't loved a piece of tech in years) but it'll be interesting to see.

Yo Rep, when's the ETA for when we're supposed to get our $10 Paypal/PSN codes? I haven't seen hide nor hair of it at all. Was there something else I was supposed to do other than top up my account via Paypal? Like enter a promo code or something?

You should have already received them. How, you ask? Via private message on your PS3, that's how! Convenience!!!!!

Does anyone know what time the PSN store updates for us? I thought Transistor would be out today, but no dice so far.

Always Wednesday 11pm AEST. Once daylight savings swaps again it will be midnight.

Check your PS3! Annoying way to send it out but yeah, I noticed it like 10 days after they sent it, didn't show up as an unread message lol

You just hit a button in the message and boom, $10!

Ahh. Yeah. That on the face of it seems a giant step backwards. And a shame...my dream for tablets always was a portable lower cost cintiq.

Downloaded and started playing Transistor. Liking the little bit I've played. Definitely feels like a supergiantgames game.

Quite like the use of the PS4 controller speaker and lightbar.

I did expect more setting context, I guess we'll get that as the game goes along.
