Someone in my team resigned a few weeks back, and my boss was too busy to find a replacement, so I was asked to take the lead on hitting up HR firms and conducting interviews. Fine, never interviewed anyone before, but fine.
I held seven interviews in two days. Mostly average, a couple of standouts. My boss popped in to meet two of the candidates, one of whom was an Indian guy.
Later, when speaking to one of the HR company reps, my boss was asked what she thought of the Indian dude. "Oh he was good, but not practical. We're kind of looking for someone more ocker, you know?"
Those chills, man.
Bonus story #1: One lady listed guild leadership in her resume (I thought that was an urban legend) and when talking about the importance of communication said "when a big scary barbarian starts swinging an axe at a little wood elf bard, you have to know how to talk your way out of the situation."
Bonus story #2: one candidate talked for 20 minutes longer than I had scheduled the meeting for, broaching such topics as how bad her current employer was and how desperate she was not to be a temp anymore. I needed to place someone in the next few days and since she said she would have to give a week's notice I had to discount her. My boss tells her recruiter this, who then insists we give the candidate another chance because it's "not that big a deal". Meanwhile, I've already offered the job to someone else. Rather than tell the recruiter this, my boss agrees to meet with the candidate the next day for an hour long meeting that goes nowhere.
