So I picked up my glasses today, and apparently they take like a week to get used to. I'm sort of okay with them now, but my depth perception is tripping me out and I feel like I can't get the lenses completely clean. I'm sure I'll get used to it!
Been there. It happens when there's a drastic change in your prescription. They can make a smaller adjustment, but it's not worth it unless the full strength makes you dizzy or something similarly unsafe. Worth the minor discomfort in the short term for the superior vision.
As for lens cleaning, I have a great solution to the problem—aside from not getting the anti-reflective coating that makes them so hard to clean, because it's usually necessary.
- Clean your hands.
- Rinse the glasses off under the tap to remove any loose dust/dirt.
- Put a few drops of dishwashing liquid on your fingertips and apply to both sides of the lenses.
- Wet your fingers a little and rub them over the lenses to foam up the detergent and remove any oils or grime. Make sure to clean the rims too, as a lot of crap will get caught between them and the lenses.
- Use the detergent still on your fingers to clean the temples/arms. We clean these last to avoid moving any oils left by your skin onto the lenses.
- Rinse all the suds off, careful not to touch the lenses.
- Now for the important part. Turn the water flow from the tap down to the point where it is a slow and steady stream. Holding the frames so the lens faces are parallel to the running water, slowly move your lenses sideways through the stream. The water should be running over the tops of the frames and down both sides of the lenses. No water droplets should remain on either side of the lenses—this is the goal of this method, the lenses won't need to be wiped and risk streaking or scratching.
- You can now wipe the excess liquid from the frames using a tissue, paper towel or cloth. If you did the previous step correctly, there should be no need for wiping the lenses at all.
This way of cleaning my glasses came from a method I learned to clean my motorcycle that is applicable to cars too. Instead of always blasting the hose all over the vehicle to rinse it (which is still fine, just not as the final rinse), you turn the hose down and let the water stream down from the top of the panel to the bottom. There is very little, if any, water droplets left behind when you do this.
It reduces the work required to wipe your vehicle down after you've finished washing and rinsing. It also greatly reduces bead marks from the water sitting there before you can wipe it off. So even those that don't wear glasses can get some use from this!
Unfortunately, it's not the best if you aren't somewhere you can precisely rinse your glasses off, but it's great for a lot of situations. Before anyone mentions contacts, which are great, they've got nothing on glasses if you've got an astigmatism—the clarity just isn't the same.
if you crash on the island don't waste time fighting over food just get your ass to the hatch and crank that sucker open good times await.
Just don't forget to enter the number sequence into the computer at the scheduled interval.
