I bought a Saturn last night.

Ozisoft you suck balls for including RF as standard when the PlayStation came with RCA cables. Took me a freakin' hour to figure out how to manually tune in the TV.

I can't hear the name 'Cyclone Yasi' without thinking of Yanni:

So when the news outlets talk about Yasi devastating the tourist hub of Cairns, my mind's eye paints an image of a Godzilla-sized hairy mediterranean dude smashing up a marina.

Wasn't the doc brown thing known days ago? Could have swore i read that information elsewhere.

I wish i knew how superannuation actually worked and what i should do. Like banks there are just so many freaking options with pros and cons. I think i'm currently with whatever my employer uses but maybe that isn't the best option.

My brain hurts, it doesn't like new information.

Maybe Orbi can turn up with a print out of your comic and demand a $2 refund for some random reason or you could sign it and give him a refund ;D

Considering going to Supanova this year but it's always just a butthole of anime and stalls to buy anime.

I wonder if Gencon will be on this year, after it was cancelled last year. I would take board gaming over anime any day.
Pretty much.

Oh, and people who don't have proper hygiene.

I wish i was just stereotyping there, but i'm not.

I'm still regretting not going to last year's one where John DiMaggio (Marcus Fenix, Bender, Steve Ballmer) made an appearance. Are these sorts of conventions any fun if you're only a moderate nerd?

Giri, just the Brisbane one. My "Just doing it for the experience of doing it' budget doesn't go far enough to do the other shows :)

One can only wish they were creative and productive enough to warrant featuring at their own booth and have attendees come by and watch them browse NeoGAF on their iPad.

The true measure of success...

Shame you're not at the melbourne one gaz, I would have gotten you to sign something that makes no sense at all.

Maybe my childrens cookie monster bowl hat in pink glittered texta.

Anyone been able to find any live cams from cairns? The only ones i found haven't been updated for a few hours, would be interesting to see the cyclone slowly move in as the afternoon and night progresses.

Why should you be appalled? It's not like i'm going to watch it for shits and giggles, it would be fascinating to see it in motion. I'm sure we will get footage either way, from lots of amateur crazy bastards along with actual reporters. Seeing it come in though as it happens would be an experience to say the least.

so chocperbole aside

this is on the BOM site

not media

not journalist

BOM site ie telling it how it is

SEVERE TC YASI IS A LARGE AND VERY POWERFUL TROPICAL CYCLONE AND POSES AN EXTREMELY SERIOUS THREAT TO LIFE AND PROPERTY WITHIN THE WARNING AREA, ESPECIALLY BETWEEN CAIRNS AND TOWNSVILLE.

THIS IMPACT IS LIKELY TO BE MORE LIFE THREATENING THAN ANY EXPERIENCED DURING RECENT GENERATIONS.

Yes, I know what you meant cookie, and no doubt it would be 'interesting'.

Just so used to media using such footage in such cringe worthy ways is all, ratings yo, its all about the ratings.

I expect someone to claim they have the best footage possible of the destruction because they sacrificed equipment or some shit, I'm going with Channel 7 on that one for some reason.

The TV stuff will be annoying as all hell, Maybe for once i might check out ABC24 tonight and see what's going on.

Looks like someone has set up a stream and it sounds like the guy is still there? You dosey cunt,GTFO.

you can always tell when they put the interns on music-duty, there's always some (sometimes cool) hot new edgy alt rock song playing over grossly inappropriate footage or sports stats.

*googles Karl Stefanovic*

Am I out of touch? I really have no idea what goes on in commercial TV land. My assumption has been that the major channels have been dying a slow death since the micron-thick bubble of reality TV burst a few years back and online consumer-oriented outlets took over. Is this just an ideology or does Australian Idol and all that garbage still exist?

Joe Average is still sad that they closed down Limewire a month ago. Trying to convert them to torrents is nigh impossible.

Really? Everyone I know around my age (uni students basically) has seen the glory of torrents.

Most probably switched to frostwire which i think has torrent capabilities built in, to some extent anyway.

Good chance they know the basics of it and how to google for pirated material, It's beyond easy these days.

Well, uni students are maybe a slightly different can of worms.

But even then, I was surprised at the amount of people my age who still used Limewire and the like. I'm not sure what it is about explaining torrents to some people, but that one extra step is just baffling to them. Your milage may vary, I guess.

I see alot of chumps watching stuff on iDevices on my daily commute, legitimately-acquired or otherwise, so it can't be that exclusive.

I worked for a guy in his 50's who was on $330k/yr and had the most comprehensive library of pirated wares in his collection, and was the go-to man for anything you wanted. The carefree sharing of digital media is pretty common and visible in my arena too- I'm talking soccer mums.

It’s all about convenience- the concept of only having a half-hour to one-hour window per week to watch a show, and have it butchered and interrupted with ads for a bunch of stupid shit I don’t need is such an archaic concept and so incompatible with a modern lifestyle, I just can’t envision anyone sensibly adhering to that behaviour if they’re aware of the alternatives.

I'm reasonably tech savvy and it took me 6 months to get my head around torrents, I don't use them for much which is probably why. Hardly used limewire either, practically everything was mislabelled porn or a virus.

That applies mostly to a single type of TV show, the serial. There are many other types of shows and patterns of consumption, and plenty of decently interesting things on FTA now that if you find yourself with a half hour block and want to be informed or entertained, you can find something without being too involved in it. Not all media consumption needs to be super dedicated, and not everyone has the time to be that dedicated. Free to air will never die. Lately it's been changing for the better.
