Ah well, I will at least download the client and sign up.

Crysis 2 arrived from OzGameShop today. Total of 12 working days (like 2.5 weeks) to get to me. Not terrible. Limited Edition, too, whatever that means.
It's EA's way of trying to get day one sales. The first shipment of games like DS2, NFS and Crysis 2 are all limited edition and come with minor perks. The Crysis 2 ones are extra multiplayer XP and early unlocks. Dead Space 2 came with Dead Space Extraction on PS3 (which was also updated and Move controls updated). NFS came with some exclusive cars I think? Pretty much they moved pre-order bonuses into the first run copies. I doubt it will last more than 12 months before retailers pressure them to back off or at least charge extra.

wow
Hopefully it will stop kids taking up smoking. Under my glourious rule I would decree that all smokers over the age of 16 need a free licence to buy and use cigarettes. No more licences would be given out after the first 12 months and cigarettes would then be slowly pushed out of our society
and probably replaced with higher levels of alcohol/gambling/furry abuse because we humans suck donkey balls at learning lessons.
Also while driving in Geelong today saw a bogan Mum heading to the law court with her 3 kids, one was a boy probably 12 years old at most who was sucking back on a fag just like his mum. Love those responsible parents.

I think Wildgoose was one of the original writers for Hyper (or PCPP) a very long time ago... I remember not minding his stuff so it's probably better than the really bad years (I think around 2000 or so?) where I cancelled my sub. Sad fact is, there's no real relevance to me now. If I want a good review, I'll go to the Eurogamer website. If I want news, I'll check out the first page or two of GAF threads. If I want witty banter, I'll listen to Idle Thumbs.
Maaaaaaaan I loved PCPP back in the day. Lived in the country so it was 50 kilometers to the nearest newsagent that stocked it (and 150km to the nearest game store) so it was a painful wait every month to get my copy. First one I had included a demo for CMI which cemented my first self-funded videogame purchase. Not sure if it was my childs mind but I picked up a few issues over the last 3 years and found the content to be laughable. The writing on NeoGAF was more worthwhile to read than what they had been printing. Still have a huge stack of boxes full of PCPP at my parents place, I read them every now and then when I go home as it is a nice look back at the games of old. Game Informer is actually pretty decent at the moment.

Demo and Gaf reaction does well to guide my purchases. Only really check out GameLife on Wired for reviews and Gamasutra for the fantastic pieces.

Just saw footage of Abbott trying to get under that electric fence. lol.

I really need to get some boxes and sleeves for my comics. Ever since I started going back to buying them weekly I've just been piling them up in a corner.
Found all my old Sonic, Transformers and TMNT comics in a drawer at home. Smelled like cat poo. I recommend boxing them up at the least.

So i might be up here for 3 days next week, monday, tues and wed. Part of me can't be assed coming back, It just feels like a silly stop gap for this place getting it's shit sorted.
Tell head office they are a bunch of Commies and they should be closed up before they relay our important tactical information to their comrades. Job done.

FUCK YOU LACHLAN MURDOCH.
Looks like someone wants us to watch all our sport on Foxtel. What are the odds. My gf is a MotoGP freak so this news will not be kind to her. My Dad has always said that he won't get Austar until F1 isn't free-to-air. Also having to drive to my mates place to watch NBA will not go quietly in the night. Also fuck this "engaging and entertaining males" stuff. Non-stop sport and The Simpsons. The Simpsons! How hard is this? It's like they are the Sega of the TV networks.

I was thinking the magazines from the pre internet days might actually contain some interesting lost news, screen shots and whatnot. Maybe someone should make a digital back up of some of this stuff?
Could you make a wiki site for old game mags? I remember finding a website that archived all the old Sonic comics but they got hit with legal stuff and had to remove everything except the covers for each issue. The whole Google Libraries thing hit a roadblock too which would rule it out because of working out who has legal rights to every issue.

Sure, that'd be great! What do I do? Oh god, I am not good with computer.
Go to Friends menu, Add friends, type in reptilescorpio. Done. Also are you into Action games or Adventure games?

Nice work Omi, hope you misses is doing okay. He has more hair already than my son, lol.

CotD sent my 3DS, going from the picture of the item, I was expecting to get the blue one but they sent me the black. Not sure if I should be happy or not, I was a little worried about the blue to be honest (in terms of the 3 distinct shades), so maybe it's for the best.

Just about to turn it on, was wondering if I'm meant to fully use the battery up before charging, or is that not an issue with the new batteries?

Blue one looks pretty good on top, a bit lousy on the bottom from my POV. The manual recommends charging it first, but not sure if it has any effect. First charge didn't take more than 2 hours though.

Big thanks to reptilescorpio for gifting me a game on Steam, so I can get in on the AusGAF chat loving! You're a legend mate.

What are AR cards? Something I missed?

Edit: Sorta found, care to elaborate? From what I can see, it looks kinda cool.
The main one included with the system basically works as follows.

You place it on any flat surface. The 3DS camera will then determine how far you are away from it and tell you to get further away or closer so that it can sync up with it.

Then some really amazing stuff starts happening. In addition to actually showing something on top of the card, which I expected, bits and piece pop up all around it and it warps the flat-surface it's left on to amazing effect. For instance, at one point it actually drops down like a giant rectangular grave, and to see the card to actually have to move the 3DS over it. The way it manipulates the environment on screen is really, really cool.

The key feature isn't that it shows things on top of it, it's that once it's worked out where the flat-plane its lying on is, it can start doing crazy shit with that plane, be it inflating it like a mole-hill or 'sinking' deep into it.

I think I repeated myself a few times there. It's a bit of a "you have to see it to get it" kind of thing. I'd really, really love to see more games really take advantage of the AR card functionality.

So just got my iPad 2... I know it's probably popped up a few times but what apps are must-haves? Already got Zinio from someone's (Bernbaum?) suggestion, it's great.

I think the outside camera might be stuffed on my 3DS :(
I went to the photo app and the screen is totally black when the outside camera is selected, I switched to the inside one and that was fine. I then reselected outside cam, and the app froze... Anyone else have this issue?

Your relevant newspaper probably has an app worth downloading.

Zinio is great if you're into certain magazines. It has Edge, which is a fantastic gaming mag, for a reasonable price.

The Kindle app is essential if you're into eBooks.

iAnnotate is an AMAZING app if you ever need to work with PDFs (lecture slides and the like).

Dropbox is something you need to download on every device you own, right now, including your iPad.

ComicZeal for comics.

QuickShot for a nice camera app that automatically uploads to Dropbox.

Friendly is probably the best Facebook app, but the touch version of the Facebook website itself works well too, so you could just link that on your home page. But it has a low-res icon. Icky. Oh and the Twitter app is great.

The iWork suite is theoretically great but I am yet to really use it (granted, I've had the device for less than a week).

AppShopper is a must. Build up your wish list and it will tell you when their prices drop. It is amazing.

Find iPhone is useful, I suppose.

Your local bank probably has an app.

Wikipanion is good for on the fly Wiki.

Shazam is as useful as ever.

Hulu/BBC/iView for your local tv.

Garage Band is great if you're a muso, it's a great novelty even if you're not.
My iPad 2 list from another thread.

Sworcery is a MUST HAVE game. World of Goo is also a must buy.

Actually, here's another post by Dash in the gaming thread:

Any of you who are rocking iPads taken their's overseas (just to clarify, even though this is the AusGAF thread - I mean outside of Australia)? How'd it treat you? Did you find the 3G useful at all? Were wifi spots numerous and easy to find? Was it a pain the arse? Would you take it with you again, or would you instead take a 5" or 7" inch sized screen item instead?

Also Cut The Rope, buy Cut The Rope

Not sure if it's irrelevant, but the size and sense of fragility of the iPad makes me reluctant to take it with me on my commute. The smart case is snappy, but I'd prefer something that housed the iPad entirely. The device is either something I'd like to have in my hands whilst I'm using it or in my bag which is usually full of wet towels. With the iPhone, I can always just chuck it in my pocket.

Wifi tethering to the iPhone isn't completely elegant but I don't think the iPad is that great a device for web browsing - it's all about the apps for me.

I'm a big fan of web-browsing and the like on iPad, but I love the touch-keyboard (maybe it's somehow related to my piano-finger coordination or something), so I've been using it for some heavy duty email duties and I recently used Pages to make my latest resume, but maybe I'm just a weird edge case.

I really dig not having to worry about saving data. Just opening any given app and then switching out or closing the magnetic cover when I'm done is so nice.

I'm always a bit reckless with my devices (and have never actually had a broken one), and the iPad is no exception. I smart-cover it then put it my sheet-music/book satchel thing and off I go. My phones never have cases or anything like that either and they all survive totally scratch-less in my pocket.

Well that was fun

Although we conclusively prooved that you can't take a 3DS out and start checking your streetpasses in the middle of a conversation without looking like a jackass

I'm secretly hoping that's all we do on Sunday.

Went lusting for some adventure game goodness on iPad. Found 'City of Secrets' HD. Anyone played it? I've only just gotten a 3DS and can't really justify the six whole dollars they're asking for that game.

I have the 'shoulda gotten a black 3DS instead of aqua' blues. The aqua just doesn't go with my ensemble, and the black looks snappy and professional. Hopefully a sexy carry case sorts me out.

SydGAF was indeed a great success. I'm glad I went and met a lot of cool people. The location wasn't the best for getting to know everyone, though I hope to do so at the next meetup.

Late, but...checkin' in!

Also, congrats Omi

Also also, I hope SydGAF was as awkward as I imagined it to be. Or totally awesome, one of the two.

Sydgaf was awesome (as an aside my iPhone tried to autocorrect sydgaf to ausgaf... How does it know!?). Met cool dudes and I never get over meeting people in real life who I've talked to online for years, its just such a cool experience.

Everyone was awesome and I'd be proud to hang with them all again. And we should do so. Next time not on a school night.

Thanks heaps Clipper for organizing, you're a champion. Thanks cookie for kicking it all off.

I have no 3DS, but a slight desire to purchase one, which is odd, since I have never enjoyed handheld gaming before.
