Brad Shoemaker's Fable III review has revealed that the flaws I were hoping wouldn't plague the experience are in fact present in full force. As such, my teetering compulsion the pick up the game tomorrow has now slid the other way.

Next new release for me is now Assassins Creed Brotherhood - a game I thought was dumb until I saw it at E3. If I pick up a new game between now and then, it'll be either DJ Hero 2 or the new Layton.

Haven't dished out some DS love in ages.

I just came here to post the same thing. It sounds like Fable 3 is a redux of Fable 2, complete with the familiar frustrations and issues. While I can still forsee playing it at some point, Brad's impressions definitely sour my anticipation.

AC: B is actually the game I'm prob most excited about at the moment. I really like where they're going with all the new stuff.
It really does look tip-top. I'm just as keen as the next guy to see where Desmond's story goes in AC3, but given the staggering level of work and detail Ubisoft put into AC2's Italy, I'm happy and eager to lap more of it up and Brotherhood is the perfect vehicle for me to do so.

I know I'm gonna love it, goofy turret sections and everything.

I still haven't played AC2 but I probably should, as it looked quite good. Never finished the first one either.

I absolutely fucking hated the first one.

The sequel makes up for the original and then some - they took every criticism and improved the game exactly where they needed. For the uninitiated spectator, the two games might look like they play the same, but the distinction is like day and night.

If you've been to the places they mapped in AC2 in real life, you appreciate it even more.

The one misstep IMO from AC to AC2 was that they took away the 'planning' aspect of the assassinations (though in AC you didn't have to, it did make the approach to the assassinations easier and more interesting). You just jump right into it and easily fight your way past hundreds of guys if you muck it up. As much as I hate instadeath stealth games, I'd like it if you have to have a plan first, and if that failed have a bloody tough fight out of it.

But level of hype for Brotherhood is increasing to pretty high levels.

i tried android, but its just a mess right now in many ways. Open systems are great but having people put whatever the f they want on the phone without approvals is not......
Have a look at Cyanogenmod. It uses the "AOSP" sources (basically, the bog standard Android release). Most of the builds for each phone based on Cyanogenmod or ASOP look staggeringly close to the default Android look. I prefer it to the carrier customisations too.

I find that with Assassin's Creed, you absolutely have to play the first one and finish EVERYTHING in it first, because once you play Assassin's Creed II, it's going to be extremely hard, if not impossible, to return to it.

They fucking fixed almost EVERYTHING that was wrong with the original. It's probably the best sequel of last year for me.

My first playthrough was really rushed, had to blast through it in a couple of days for a review. I enjoyed it, thought it was great, but when I got a copy at home and took my time through the game, I really fell in love with the pacing of the world, and the distractions. It was one of those games you could play just to exist in the world - Red Dead was a bit like that as well.

In hindsight AC2 was one of my favourite games of 2009, if not my favourite.

Hey Vook (or anyone else), anyone know if Australia is getting the Red Mario Wii? I assume we are since the UK are getting it.

But is it known?

Not long ago there was an interesting and compelling description for playing AC1 'properly'. The person argued that to enjoy it the most, the radar and all tips needed to be turned off and the player rely exclusively on deciphering all the hints on how to best approach each of the assassination targets before taking them down. I think I read it here on GAF, but alas, I have zero intention of returning to that game.

AC2 is just tops though.

VOOK

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.

Do I know for sure? No

It's a possibility.

Yeah, that's what you're meant to do apparently. It works perfectly in tandem with the whole puppetry system of the Animus and such.

but yeah, as I said, the first one is incredibly flawed but I only noticed that when I returned to it briefly before the second came out.

Cannot fucking wait for Brotherhood though. Especially since it builds more on the modern day storyline too.

I couldn't be any less interested in Brotherhood. Everything about it seems so cynical to me.

yearly sequel with online multiplayer. I don't like it when the money-making machine is shoved in my face. Try and hide it a little! ;)

it might be really fun, but without Desilets it's... less interesting.

Nup, not a shameless cash-in.

I view it in similar light to how I perceived Bioshock 2 - not exactly a direct narrative continuation per se, rather an opportunity to explore the same environ from a slightly altered context. I expect the game to focus more on the historic scenario rather than the modern day assassins but with the additional richness that a cast of allied assassins brings to Ezio's Italy.

Kinda like Metroid Prime Hunters, but less shithouse.

Sure, it'll reuse plenty of the assets of the mainline game, but it's a world I care about and want to see more of. Ubisoft were on song with AC2 and now that they've figured out a formula that works I can't wait to see how they abstract upon that concept. It also affords them the flexibility of being much more adventurous and take risks when it comes time to deliver AC3 - they can test the waters with 'AC2.5', take what works, and then go from there.

to be completely fair, I haven't really seem much more than the GB quick-look. It could be a pretty rad game.

It's something I'll definitely try, when I have the cash.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow was cheap on Game UK's site so I ordered. Now it just says it's being held and says "Your order is held for credit checking. Your order is waiting for authorisation and release for fulfilment." God damn it. Credit checking? Just charge the card and hurry up.

I may try and find time to play AC2 soon, all this talk is making me interested in playing it.

First I need to actually finish a game in Civ 5. Currently playing an Earth-map game where I'm stuck in South America with little in the way of iron or horses and a hostile city state and Montezuma between me and North America. The South America continent is weird because it has this shitty mountain range dividing it and the only way I seem to be able to get around it is by embarking across the ocean, which doesn't work so well when there's a billion barbarian ships roaming the coast. I need to get there as there's the only untapped iron on the continent but Jesus I am paying for it.

I felt the same initially - but the multiplayer has a genuine point of difference, and quite fun. The single player is a real evolution and has some really interesting new mechanics.

I hate the yearly updates and shoe-horned multiplayer as much as anybody, but still looking forward to AC:B.

You know whats fucked? I've been chundering since about 5am this morning but still have to work because pretty much everyone else in the office in on leave.

Anyone with RB3 managed to figure out the RB2 export yet? Apparently you're supposed to put in the code on the back on the RB2 manual. But it's too long.

I've had a horrid start to the day too.

I was watching porn with headphones in and I turned it up because it seemed quiet, then some time later I realised I'd unplugged the headphones. fml.

So... Super Meat Boy. Holy shit. The developer knew his target audience (me), that's for sure. I'll probably hate it by the later, harder levels, but for now... *Swoon*

Oh FFS, MLB2K10 on Steam is $1.99US, but not available in our region. Fucking seriously.

NBA2K10 still is though, which makes zero fucking sense.

Edit: NBA isn't anymore :lol

PS. Anyone know where to get the cheapest RB3 at retail (or at least, before this weekend) is? Did that $140 keyboard controller come with the game?

This is the best. How many in your house potentially heard you watching porn?
