Public broadcaster SBS has turned Australia's acrimonious asylum-seeker debate into hit reality-show programming, scoring its best ratings for the year last night with the premiere of Go Back To Where You Came From.
The documentary follows six ordinary Australians who have agreed to challenge their preconceptions about refugees and asylum seekers and embark on a 25-day journey that traces in reverse the journeys that refugees have taken to reach Australia.
The first episode in the three-part series aired on SBS One last night and was watched by an average of 524,000 viewers in the five major metropolitan areas (according to overnight ratings from OzTAM).
Seven's Australia's Got Talent won top spot for the evening with an average of 1.756 million viewers.
....
Sad, but as has been said by many people, being on SBS probably means this show isn't seen by those that most need to see it.
