Seriously, how long can it take to understand the proposed R18+ rating, you can do it in an afternoon. Not being able to make a decision, fucking NSW.

The only things that were banned for the RC guidelines were Risen and other games with positive uses of realistic drugs. These issues are easily worked around by the developers, so leaving the RC rules in place is a perfectly acceptable compromise if you ask me.
I thought Left 4 Dead 2 was refused classification due to the frequency of high impact violence, which appears to fit under RC.

However, I believe they said this made it unsuitable for people under 18 to play it, so I presume if there was an R18+ rating it would be allowed even if they just rebadge MA15+.

I will say this, the vic roads demerit point extracts are a lot nicer to read than the RTA's :p

the most annoying thing here is I DONT DRIVE

but require ID with my address on it

ugh

the guy even said to me "we can book you an appointment at such and such location near work, if you can drive to it during lunch?" I asked when it was, he said in 2 months. so i said after the 3 months thus making it illegal? he just went silent.

even a day time appointment near my apartment isnt available until mid september. wth is this. fjsdhfsdjhfi

And I cant change my enrolment to vote to my victorian address because their website is broken and tells me my SA license ID is WRONG.

so now i cant vote.

For the most part they can't/wont do anything, as long as you have an appointment to change the license. Also, if you for any reasong go back home out of state, the count restarts from when you get back.

They only lose 1 point also, it's only 3 during school holidays.

It's still stupid to ping anyone for being <10km/h over the limit.

You wouldn't get done for 2ks over, and nor is it a 3 demerit point offense.

Oh.

Hi choc.
Ergh, in vic you can, and do. I've seen it on their print outs. I review a lot of them for their insurance, and to justify some fines guys will send in copies of their breach notices. It's stupid.

The website didn't say. Or narrow it down, just said if you leave for any reason... /me shrug.

Even more stupid is getting done for going a few Ks over immediately after coming up a hill. Pretty easy to do..

If that is the case, utterly ridiculous. Although I have been done for 105kph on Eastlink. Which is also fucking ridiculous.

As for the 3 point thing though, choc is wrong, <10kph in Vic is 1 point.

In QLD they're not allowed to set up a camera within 50M of a incline or decline over a certin degree.

Or didn't used to be able too.

well thats new, (just like its new in NSW then)

anyway

at least its not perth, you get flashed @ 61 in WA, and the perth government freely admits it

edit: In NSW they are not allowed to setup speed cameras @ the bottom of hills, its in the legislation on traffic law.

It's only illegal, because it's been RC. Not because of any other law. If it breaks no other law, who are they to presume to set additional standards? Particularly if they're going to put in an R18 classification.

Partaking in sexual fetsishes isn't illegal (within obvious limits) so why should the images of them be if they're restricted to adults?

Child Porn, obviously illegal, most of the rest? entirely not (the stuff about showing how to build certain bombs instructions on how to commit crime is also).
It's stated to be only gratuitous sexual fetishes that are covered. Fetishes in the manner of bestiality or self mutilation. The ones that are illegal.

Which website? If the Victorian ones, then screw them and do it via the AEC instead. It filters down to your state and local governments too.

To be fair, thats not the worst thing.

I've seen print outs where people will have 10 15km/h + speeding fines in a 5 year period, and have kept their license. I've seen them where they've been fined for negligent driving and leaving the scene multiple times in a 5 year period, and still hold a license...

Some of it borders on criminal negligence by the courts/police IMO.

Not sure what the incline of this hills is, but in the picture on the ticket my car is only about 10-20m from the hill.
Of course the camera could be 50m away, not really sure where it was.

At least you only get 1 point for less than 13kph over in QLD.

Don't worry, as stated, you'll be fine as long as you have the appointment. It's like enrolling to vote. Despite it being compulsory, nobody in Australia has ever been successfully prosecuted for failing to enrol to vote. If they were to call you up for it, all charges must be dropped the second you submit your form for enrolment. Thus, they don't really bother. Antony Green made a comment about this in a blog post recently. The same rule applies to changing your licence. If you are clearly trying to get it changed at the earliest possible convenience, they are not going to charge you.

Appeal if it's recent, i know several people who have and most have gotten off their tickets. Though i don't know what the overall hitrate for appeals passing, from anecdotal evidence, it appears relatively high.

The sooner Google release their cars that take care of all the driving for you the better. Manually making sure you're always at the right speed, in the right lane, watching everything is old fashioned bullshit. Why not get some kerosene for the front lights and a crank for the starter motor while we're at it.

I get SO GOD DAMN BORED driving to and from work every day. Mind numbingly bored. That's 2+ hours of my day that is completely wasted. I can't work. I can't read. It's just boring as hell paying attention to non-automated real world junk.

And no public transport really isn't an option. I want my Google car.

Anyone know of a good website to buy smartphones? I don't want it attached to plans or anything. I want to buy it and use it with my Optus pre-paid card.

Also, what would be a decent Android smartphone in the $300-$400 range? Would it be a better option to import? Or buy locally?

Getting tired of carrying my crappy phone and my iPod Touch everywhere I go.

OK so listening to things. I'm trying, I really am. Here's what I'm flitting between:

Radio:

ABC which is interesting enough in the morning but "PM" is an hour of torture about things like PAPUA NEW GUINEA POLITICS or an enticing recap of what boorish crap Abbott and Gillard shouted at each other in Question Time at night. Dear politicians: You didn't give a flying fuck about my industry when it imploded, so I don't really care about your self-destructive infighting. Just give me my internet and go away.

Rebel FM which is a pretty good rock station that is very much like what Triple M was 20 years ago, except they broadcast out of the Gold Coast so it's SHHHJJJJJSSSSXXXXXXSSSSHHHHH until I'm five minutes away from home.

Triple J, which I'm way too old to listen to GET OFF MY LAWN YOU WHINY KIDS

Triple Z, which I'm too married and suburban to listen to SORRY I DON'T LIVE IN A SHARE HOUSE WITH FIFTEEN DRUG ADDICTS GUYS I GUESS I'M NOT COOL ENOUGH (disclaimer: the games show they do on Wed nights is pretty good)

A various cacophony of commercial stations that are yelling at me about shopping at Mick's Timber Warehouse and hot celebrity gossip before playing the traffic report at minuscule volume (Here's a spoiler: THERE'LL BE A FUCKING BROKEN DOWN TRUCK ON THE HIGHWAY. AGAIN. LIKE EVERY FUCKING DAY BEFORE AND EVER WILL BE.) before blasting the latest Rhianna claptrap.

OK, so let's try podcasts:

One Life Left: I adore this one. It makes me happy to listen to. It is one hour a week of sweet audio relief. And they keep reading my letters on air which is nice :)

Bombcast: It's no secret how much I love these guys. Some of them I'm lucky enough to call friends. But holy flaming bag of crap on a Church doorstep they're what, 3 hours an episode? Then I feel bad for having a Giantbomb Podcast backlog and I feel bad enough for having a gaming backlog so I don't need the extra pressure.

Webcomics Weekly: I adore this show to bits. They record a ton of them. They never release them. I've offered on several occasions to edit and release the show for them since it's obviously too much work for them but one of the team put the kibosh on it after the rest agreed. AGH.

Any retro gaming podcast: Usually ends up with me yelling with Choc-like levels of vitriol NO YOU FUCKING IDIOTS BEAM SOFTWARE MADE THAT GAME NOT THE PUBLISHER GOD FUCK CAN'T YOU SPEND FIVE FUCKING MINUTES DOING SOME FACT CHECKING HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW THIS.

This American Life: When it's funny it's great. When it's not funny I just want to drive off a bridge. I can't take that risk any more.

How about music on my iPhone? Great except that I've listened to all of it a million times already and by the time I've added it to my iTunes playlist I'm already sick of it. I don't listen to new music much (see: being married, never going out and living in the suburbs).

The Absolute Radio '90s iOS app used to stream over 3G connections but they changed that to wifi only a few updates ago :(

So instead I spend 2+ hours trying to entertain myself by singing over every song I hear and changing the lyrics to make them songs about Pokémon.

Help me guys. What am I missing?

Hey Gaz, I hear they invented something called an MP3. It's this cool little device where you can put all your own personal music.

Give it a try ;)

Basically Gaz you need more Podcasts.

I recommend my Brother, My Brother, and Me. It's an advicecast for the modern era and it's funny as hell.

Stop Podcasting Yourself is one I'd recommend. It's hosted by two canadian comedians who have a different guest each week (usually a US or Canadian comedian). It's lightly segmented and they just chill and joke around. Each episode runs 1-1.5 hours.

Ninja edit: It's another of the Maximum Fun podcasts which are all pretty good (see: Jintor's praise of My Brother, My Brother and Me)

Ninja Ninja edit: Fuck you Jintor for beating the edit.

LOVE the bombcast! Only podcast/thing I look forward to every week. Love anything they do really.

I thought Vic took off 3km or 3% to allow for inconsistencies in measuring equipment. So, if you got done for 62km you were recorded at 65km.

Gaz, if you like This American Life, listen to RadioLab. Often humorous, never depressing, always informative.

Maximum Fun podcasts are indeed great.

I highly recommend Judge John Hodgman and My Brother, My Brother and Me.

but ever so delicious
Theres a 2 month wait on a driving test thing? Or is it something else ?

I got told it's 5 weeks at the moment. If it's 2 - 3 months then I guess no license for me until next year sometime. My l's run out in December D:

I lost 3 demerit points (of the 5 allowable before being suspended) last year for not having my P plates up. It was a harmless mistake. In Vic.

That's over half the price of the intended RRP here.

I didn't bother putting up my P plates for the last few months of them, even though I was working as technician at Lotterywest and driving out to at least 3-4 retailers on any given working day. I figured as long as I didn't draw attention to myself I wouldn't be pulled over and get done for it.
Fortunately, that was the case.
