So it turns out there's an entire community dedicated to seeking out first pressings or rare Japanese masters of LPs, who then capture them using pro-level turntables and equipment, and then share them at super-high fidelity (we're talking 24-bit, 192KHz FLACs here).

Some of them sound simply amazing.

Edit: I wonder whether the first MelGAF meetup might not be better on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. A lot frequently have things on Saturday nights (I know we're talking GAF members, but still ;) and it seems like BrisGAF has done alright with Sunday afternoon meetups. If you started at say, 3pm, then those who only wanted to hang around for a couple of hours could and those who wanted to go for an all nighter still could. Just a thought. Either way, kudos to HolyCheck for getting the ball rolling.

Yeh theres been a few requests >_> i think it might need to start at 3pm. sighs.

So, uh, I unplugged my sisters iPod and it started immediately.

Apple is the bane of my existence.
I've had a similar-ish problem. I can't turn on my work laptop with my external drive attached as it tries to boot from that first... obviously. Nothing in the BIOS settings seems to indicate that it should try to boot from that over the internal harddrive... which has an operating system on it. Sometimes computers baffle me.

I always set mine up so that all boot options are set to the HDD that my OS is on.

Normally that happens if you have USB legacy support on (for using USB keyboards to control the BIOS and such). You should be able to switch that on and have it prevent booting from anything external like a CD drive or HDD.

Hmm, I'll take a look. Much appreciated!

I mean, you shouldn't *need* to disable it, but if you have hassles then I always find it helps.

So, Sunday's here. Cleaning up the unit (not a euphemism) and watching Independence Day. Amazing how much HD makes the once impressive seem less than... impressive. Still fucking great audio in it though.

Welcome to earf.

Finally finished this on loan from a friend:

With 8 pieces missing. Will be ordering them thru bricklink ... just as soon as I've designed something fun with the Digital Designer to make up a minimum order :)

VOOK

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.

I think 3 years is the super common one then 7 years, may as well throw 5 in there too since it's in the middle!

Holy: Didn't go on steam chat.

I'm going to see her now though. She said if she'll 100% cut off all ties to me tomorrow even if we don't fix shit/get closure. I'll report back tomorrow/tonight depending on when I get back.

I don't usually dump my shit on people but I don't want to/can't tell anyone I know IRL because of other reasons (not related) so thanks for not being shit dudes.

edit: amongst mine: 1 year. me and my gf are the longest running so far with one behind us by like 4 months, then another one by about a year less than us. we have 3 long-running couples and the rest kinda died around 1 year.

Missed whatever it was, but good luck. Hope it works out for you.

In other news, GPs are sick of sick certificates:

FRUSTRATED doctors are pushing to scrap sick certificates for patients who have only one day off.

They say the practice is a waste of their time and have slammed "demanding bosses" and unreasonable workplace policies.

Requests for certificates have exploded in recent years as bosses increasingly force staff to visit a doctor to prove they should stay at home for a day.

New Australian Medical Association president Steve Hambleton questioned why staff should need a doctor's certificate for one day off and called on the Federal Government to address the drain on the healthcare system under industrial relation laws.

Dr Hambleton said doctors would not turn away patients requiring a certificate but believed debate was needed.

"I find it idiotic. Employers trust their employees with their finances but won't trust them when they are sick," he said.

"A lot of time is wasted by doctors who have to sign medical forms for people who don't need medical intervention.

"I'm constantly surprised when I get a person coming in for one day's sick leave.

"We don't have the capacity in the system."

An Australian Institute of Health and Welfare report released in 2009 revealed requests for doctor's certificates and other administrative procedures had more than doubled in the past decade, equating to an extra 1.5 million requests.

"This may reflect the increasing requirement of employers to provide a sickness certificate for one day's leave," the report said.

Queensland's Industrial Relations Minister Cameron Dick said the matter mainly rested within the Federal jurisdiction but called on business to show compassion.

"Allowing employees sufficient time to rest and recover from illness benefits both the employee, fellow workmates and the employer," he said.

Queensland local government workers need a sick certificate for being away for two days while State Government staff need a sick certificate if they are away for three or more days.

Embarrassingly remedial question here guys, and one which could probably be answered by two seconds of Googleage, but whatevs: if I buy an Aus Gameboy charger, can I use it with the Japanese Micro I just won on eBay without fear of it essploding?

All good, I use my AU charger on my JP 3DS and my AU SP charger on my US ones.

I have had a similar issue to yours, with something eating up the disk space. Turned out to be an app that was crashing and writing to the HDD with a crash dump log. It was also restarting itself each time as well, so it was stuck in this loop that would chew up disk space like crazy.

If that isn't it, check out your c:\users folder and just got through it till you find where most of the space has been used up, it will likely be somewhere in there and you will work out what it is. Best I can suggest. :)

You can find most of this stuff in the usual places. I stumbled across releases from PBTHAL and found more from there.

Did you also search for system files in that search? Try opening a command prompt as admin, and typing "dir/s/a \" (without the quotes). It'll run forever but when it eventually finishes the space there should hopefully be more relevant.

http://blogs.news.com.au/heraldsun/andrewbolt/index.php/heraldsun/comments/terrorists_attack_oslo/

Wow @ Andrew Bolt's original take on the Oslo shootings. Then man is a total cunt. My guess he was hoping it was Islamists.

http://blogs.news.com.au/heraldsun/..._the_killer_is_relevant_to_the_abc_after_all/

Alan RM Jones notes how often the ABC stresses that that Norwegian mass murderer Behring Breivik is a “Right wing Christian” - although relevance of his Christianity seems obscure, given nothing in the New Testament and nothing said by any Christian leader possibly justifies his murder of so many young Norwegians:

<snip quoted text>

Now contrast that determination to mention the murderer’s (at this stage seemingly irrelevant and certainly anomalous) Christian faith with the ABC’s extreme reluctance to mention the faith of Major Nidal Malik Hasan, who screamed “Allahu Akbar” as he shot dead solders at Fort Hood, after telling a colleague “: “Muslims should stand up and fight against the aggressor.”

Amazing.

Edit: I am also ashamed at Barrie Cassidy on Insiders for attempting to link violent video games and the R18 debate with the shooting is Oslo.

By the way, HUGE thanks to everyone who replied to me on Friday with some great suggestions for stuff to listen to. I will try them out during this week and let you know how I go!

You know what I realised after I posted all that? I really just want to listen to The Goon Show. Or something like that at any rate. Something funny and scripted and well produced.

Just on the off chance you're bored and are after something (sorta interesting?) to read, I've made these charts that compare how long it takes to create something against how long it takes to consume it. This is the kind of stuff I think about on those long car rides. See why I get so bored?

So I just realised if someone got Internode's cheapest 100mbps connection, and actually managed to get 100mbps, they could theoretically go over their monthly cap in 40 minutes.

Those 40 minutes of porn would be well worth it!
