Seeing Mike Krahulik's art go through this weird transformation ever since Scott Kurtz moved into the Penny Arcade office has been fascinating, in the same way a car full of puppies crashing into a busload of orphans is fascinating. It's like he's trying to ape Kurtz's faces while trying to keep to his Stephen Silver-esque style for bodies and it's just not working.

On the other hand, Kurtz's art has done nothing but improve in the last few months.

nobody in this thread cares

I care! The art has gone poopy! I prefer his art from around 2007. Looked perfect to me. Sooo many webcomics change their artstyle so many times it gives me the irates. Sam & Fuzzy got better and better thankfully. At least I will always have dependable Dr McNinja.

Not instabuys, but I still follow Obsidian, Bethsoft and Bioware verrrry closely. They really have to stuff up for me to not buy most of their games (DLC is another matter, it has to be amazing for me to buy it).

Playing NV, I had 10 rolling saves in case something bad ever happened. The saves are between 35 and 39 hours. If I lose them all I'll be starting again and breezing through the game as fast as I can because I want to see the end, but damned if I'll be interested in an Obsidian game again.

I don't care about spinning heads, dogs running headfirst along the ground, companions being stuck in rocks, scorpion models being stretched, deathclaws flaying into the sky never to be seen again, the game hanging the system. But if a bug makes the game unplayable, or worse makes my 40 hours rendered totally useless, they're going to have to work damned hard to earn my trust again.

Does anyone here have a Kindle 3? With the dollar being so good I'm considering ordering one from Amazon, but I have no experience with Amazon or kindle so I don't know what their bookstore is like in Australia.

Is it worth getting one in Australia? How good is the service? Wifi or 3G model?

My girlfriend has a Kobo which is okay, but not the sharpest of screens. How does the Kindle 3 compare?

I don't like his fingers as much now. (HERP DERP maybe a dumb comment). They look too crazy to me now as if they lack bones, or have hundreds of bones all pointing in different directions.

Bought my brother one. Wifi. It is sensational. Their bookstore has the occasional frustration, but I don't think anybody is doing it better.

Anyone care to do me a favor?

I want to buy the ARMA 2 Combined Operations pack on sale on Steam ($27) but it keeps returning to the home page on my iPhone and I don't have access to a PC until after the sale ends.

I can gift a few Valve games (have a copy of each available) in return. Including a copy of Portal 2 available that I wouldn't mind gifting. Or I can PayPal the money, but I'd rather give some games that you want.

If I'm on your friends list feel free to gift me and let me know and we can figure out repayment tomorrow/weekend.
If I'm not on your friends list I can PM you my email address and you can gift to that.

Probably going to bed soon so might not respond until sometime tomorrow.

It's so bad, nowadays. A total regression, as far as I'm concerned.

KOTOR2 is apparently great now that the community has modded it to the point of practicality. Otherwise I found it a mess in every way, it was obviously rushed out. I plan on eventually playing it with the Mod but the day one experience was bad.

The community stuff really doesn't change all that much, I think someone's oversold you on it.

God damn though, what a game. Nothing beats Manann for KOTOR though, Bioware nailed the hell out of Switzerland.

I don't know much about this "art" business, but this strip from a few days ago stuck out as being pretty bad to me.

What's going on with his face in the last two panels? The expressions used to be much better than that.

The weirdest thing about Krahulik's art is that he jumps between characters like the main two who have tiny necks, to people with normal necks, and then to people like Kevin Butler who have no necks =\

EDIT: And I kinda miss the banana hands >_>

I have no complaints with my Kindle 3 or with Amazon

Michael Atkinson would be rolling in his grave.
I caught a bit of the Nine news tonight and they briefly spoke to Atkinson. Surprisingly he wasn't completely dismissive of the idea saying something to the effect of "it's a creative move forward" (can't remember the exact quote but I'm quite sure he used the words 'creative' and 'forward').

Where the fuck was THIS Michael Atkinson two years ago?!

Instabuy devs? I'm not sure I'd have any.

I'd buy any horror title that Monolith makes, and granted that's all they've done for a good while. But if they came out with something else I doubt I'd buy it without investigating first.

I'd probably buy any Criterion racing game, id Software shooter, but yeah, depends on the title they release really.

I guess the closest I'd get would be llamasoft. The games are cheap and generally great, so I'd be happy to take a risk on anything they put out.

I'm more into franchises than developers. Devs are like bands. Sooner or later they start releasing crap and you'd wish they stopped 3 albums ago. With some rare exceptions.

Edit: Wow, that's a lot of paragraphs starting with I.

I think his faces are going waaaaaay off the deep end into cartoony and it's not working. Those comic faces should be very occasional punchlines, not shotgun blasted into the world at the slightest opportunity.

It's not like his skill has regressed any, it's that he's choosing to use stupid faces all the time instead of carefully like he used to. It'd be like if Jerry used long, ridiculous words and bizarre sentence constructions even more than he does now.

/edit mind you the only thing that really stuck out in that last strip was Butler's fingers. Those looked creepy.

//edit Instabuy? The only developer I can legitimately say is Valve. Even Doublefine I've skipped Stacking so far because it's a pain getting on XBLA without a wireless dongle (I have to literally rewire the house to do it) and Platinum Games I haven't picked up Vanquish on the cheap yet.

Sure, if no one else is interested. Sale is probably ending soonish anyway. Thanks.

Instabuy devs? Valve and Irrational. I'll probably end up buying every Telltale game too, but I still have like all of the ones they've already released to play and tend not to buy then straight away. I feel like there's an indie dev I'm missing but can't think of one off the top of my head.

Apparently they're pretty gentle. Probably like when skydiving. Freefall is intense, but once the 'chute opens, it's calm and almost silent up there.

Brisbane, I'll be totally in you this weekend.

Does anyone from Brissie know a good place to have a good scotch around the CBD? Our hotel is near Central

There are some nice bars along the river, though the only one I can remember the name of is "fridays". They are only a 10min walk from central.

Tetris DS

Already got it. In fact, I paid $80 for it a couple of years ago when I found it in a Toys R Us because I knew it was rare and it's Tetris. It was worth it, because I probably played it every day on the way to work for the next 3 months. I managed to get to the point where on marathon mode, it stopped counting my lines.

I'd suggest a bar to go to, but I never go out. Instead I stay at home drawing comics like THIS ONE CHOC.

The moment I hit post I thought of a funnier one to do about the whole situation but I'll be damned if I do two in a row. OH WELL COMICS

Fridays is great if you're a popped-collar Rugby League fan and want to sexually harass/rape scantily-clad peroxide blonde harlots or if you're a scantily-clad peroxide blonde harlot and want to be sexually harassed/raped by a popped-collar Rugby League fan.

If that doesn't tickle your fancy, they play plenty of Nickelback.

Tetris DS
Meteos

I can't do the adventure game thing on handhelds when travelling.

Fridays is good if you like hitting on drunken uni students and bogan lasses.

The Jade Buddha / Shadow Lounge are good if you look good wearing a tie and a vest and wear clothes that suggest you have a lot of money. They'll have good scotch and aspiring trophy wives galore.

The Pig and Whistle is good if you like faux-English pubs.

Not on the river (but within walking distance of it), the Embassy is decent, I suppose.

Or you could just troll the Casino bars and get drunk off cheap daquiris.

Ghost Trick is amazing, easily the best DS game released this year. Okamiden is pretty cool as well and worth checking out.

Also if you can track them down, the Trackmania DS games are worth a look

Y’know, for all my appreciation of Scotch, I don’t drink it much when out. There is a pretty fancy bar at the bottom of my skyscraper that caters to business types yet they don’t do Scotch right. It's our go-to place because it's just right there and it is a pretty nice place, but it's still run by kids. I order a double Black Label with a splash of water in an old fashion glass and I get back a plastic cup filled to the brim with water. I’d sooner order it neat and get a glass of water on the side. Last night I was at a place at Southbank and they only had Red Label which is a horrid waste of time on its own so I had it mixed and hated it. Almost everywhere will serve it with ice, which I don’t do, and it’s an annoying chore to order my scotch the way I like (which is pretty simple really) and having to spend a minute explaining it to a bewildered-looking teenager. Really wish that places knew how to do it better – in the States if you order a Bourboun and Branch, you get it served with pretty much the right amount of water.

I’m sure there are places in Brisbane that know what they’re doing, but I just tag along with my typical beer-drinking crew. Been drinking less and less beer these days and have only recently taken a liking to Ales (James Squire Golden Ale nom nom nom!) and even then I’ll have, 3 maybe 4 drinks tops before putting a lid on it. Unfortunately, friends are colleagues are still of the “lets drink until we can’t walk” mentality. These are people from their mid-20' to their 40's with kids and home loans and stuff. Bloody Brisbane.

Hey BanShunsaku, you'll be in Brisbane while we're having this - http://www.auscongames.com.au/.

You play board games and stuff don't you? I think the Dominion tourney is tomorrow and Monday is Carcassone. Not sure if I'm going yet. There's a lot of nerdy shit there like lessons on how to paint the halberd on your Orc Warlord and tips for neckbeard grooming and maintenance but I'm only interested in the boardgames.

You sound like Bobby Kotick, I would argue it works both ways. Great developers tend to continue to make great games as long as their workforce isn't disrupted/swapped around. Call Of Duty is a great example. IW did great, Treyarch did shit (well Black Ops was good enough). Every developer makes a miss-step but franchises can fall into mediocrity easier with the control of publishers looking to maximise their profit margins. Harmonix continued to improve upon the Rock Band concept while Activision ran the genre into the ground with developers who weren't suited to the genre but were cheap studios for them to use.

OzGameShop will help keep this cheap.
999
Ghost Trick
Last Window
Sonic Colours
Okamiden
Chrono Trigger
Infinite Space

Also it is Guinness season Bern, if I'm at the pub I will grab a few pints of Guinness since I know the bartenders we go to can pour it properly. Leave the scotch for when I am at home, alone with it and whatever I am focused on.

I've never been a "drink til I pass out" kind of person, however I did appreciate a nice lager for a few years there.

Unfortunately since being diagnosed with a gluten allergy I can't enjoy beer when I'm out (most places don't carry gluten free stuff). Since then I've gotten into single malt whisky and love being able to try something different when at a bar.

Thanks for the heads up. I love my boardgames, unfortunately most of my time this weekend has already been alloted to hanging out with family up there.

Tis a shame though, would be sweet to get some neckbeard grooming tips. Had to trim mine this morning and it looks terrible.

Speaking of board games, I introduced my parents to Ticket to Ride whilst at the farm last week. My mum bought the game off me and has since been playing it nightly with my dad. I even had a game of Dominion with my mum, which was slow and painful but kind of awesome as well.
I destroyed her with my Spies

Watched a bartender at the Brekky Creek hotel on the weekend pour a guiness for my Dad like a boss. Watching that stuff settle out is a thing of beauty. And yeah, it's getting chilly out, so Ales and Dark beers are the go.

I prefer 5 but both are fantastic remakes in my opinion. It's the only thing Square Enix have done well this gen, DS remakes were fantastic. Also I'll detail those games as my Son is finally off for a nap.

999 - Fantastic puzzle game with a great story, Japanese.
Ghost Trick - another fantastic puzzle story game by the Ace Attorney guys
Last Window - sequel to the noir detective story Hotel Dusk, one of my favourite games. Plus you get to hold the DS like a book!
Sonic Colours - The best sonic since S3&K. If you like Sonic it is a must play.
Okamiden - Sequel to Okami. Turned out great thankfully.
Chrono Trigger - Great port of one of the best RPG's ever. Don't bother with the new content, just play the original content.
Infinite Space - Fantastic space RPG by Platinum Games, tons of content and pretty hard.
