What they're asking for isn't okay and it never will be. They're not special and neither is any other religion in the eyes of the law.Agyar said:Except that the proposal under the discussion seeks to change that weight so that Sharia is recognised in the legal system.
There was also a proposal under discussion to introduce a sensible and consistent ratings system for all media, including video games as well as political parties for whom the issue of greatest import is hunting and fishing rights in national parks. People ask for dumb and unrealistic things all the time.Agyar said:Except that the proposal under discussion seeks to change that weight so that Sharia is recognised in the legal system.
Exactly. I am not in favour of a plural legal system, but getting a religious divorce after getting a civil one is hardly a threat of that. It is no different to a Christian church having their own divorce ceremony.viciouskillersquirrel said:Sharia Law being applied in the private lives of Australian muslims carries about the same weight as Canon Law does for Catholics. That too. It might just bring an end to Federal funding of religious schools, which I would also be in favour of.viciouskillersquirrel said:If mosques wanted to get together and charter religious schools, complete with qualified teachers, state government compliant curricula and that followed all the same rules and regulations Catholic and Anglican schools already do in this country, I would not be against them getting the same kind of Federal funding (it's Federal, right?) as those schools already do. It's only right.

That'd be a HUGE reform that'll probably never happen and put strain on the public system to boot. Schools run by religious institutions are subsidised by the government, but the rest of the cost burden goes to parents and the institutions themselves. If those schools shut down, you have an exodus into the state system and the taxpayer foots the full bill for their education.Dead Man said:That too. And that would be fine by me. I do think there would not be an exodus though, private schools were very popular before they started getting federal funding, and would remain so. If there was federal funding directed to state schools that would be a better use of the funds in my opinion. Hell, I would quite happily pay some extra tax to ensure high quality public education.viciouskillersquirrel said:That'd be a HUGE reform that'll probably never happen and put strain on the public system to boot. Some youtube clips at the articleMURIEL'S Wedding star and Aussie screen legend Bill Hunter is gravely ill with cancer, his manager has revealed.
Mark Morrissey contacted Channel Nine's Today show this morning to break the news of the 71-year-old actor's declining health.
"Sadly, he has cancer, and it's inoperable," he said.
"He was admitted to a hospice a couple of days ago."
Hunter got his start in the entertainment business in the 1960s, appearing in numerous TV shows, including Dr Who and Homicide, but his big screen break was in the 1978 film Newsfront.
His profile rose with his turn as the put-upon Major Barton in Gallipoli but it was his roles in Strictly Ballroom, Muriel's Wedding and The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert in the 1990s that really won over audiences. Indeed, he seemed to be the Australian film industry's lucky charm.
He often played strong, opinionated Australians whose rough exterior hid a soft heart.
Most recently, he finished work on The Cup, playing famed Australian horse trainer Bart Cummings.
Werent you completely lost at the start of the game >_<?hamchan said:The Witcher 2 is great. I'll probably end up finishing it before the first game.
It's weird, but you can choose to do the prologue completely out of order, and you choose the order through dialog choices. I could see that being confusing if you didn't realise what was going on and started in the middle.markot said:Im up to chapter 2 (in 1), pretty far into it, and I had no idea who what where and when was going on in the first 5 minutes of TW2 that I just quit and went back to TW >_>
Kinda felt like a repeat of the original to be honest, even the getting run down bit >_> lolFredescu said:It's weird, but you can choose to do the prologue completely out of order, and you choose the order through dialog choices. You'll never sell any newspapers with that attitude, son.viciouskillersquirrel said:There was also a proposal under discussion to introduce a sensible and consistent ratings system for all media, including video games as well as political parties for whom the issue of greatest import is hunting and fishing rights in national parks. As far as I'm aware, any recognition of Sharia Law would be unconstitutional and struck down in the High Court. Also, I pity any politician who would allow such a thing to get through unnoticed.
Nice, where'd you get this? Just starting to get into Radiohead and really enjoying TKOL.commanderdeek said:Awwww yeah
