Thats so laughable that it should be a sitcom! Staring ROVE!

Starcraft 2, can play offline when ever you want with no hassle, as long as you play online once in a month.
Diablo 3: 100% online, makes it clear you know. there's no attempting to skirt it

have you tried to play a steam game offline? holy head fuck.

Most of the time you're in Australia when you order something online.

But point of sale is a vendor in another country.

Here's a question. On Steam - if you buy on the Aus store, I assume the price includes GST. If you were to do a region workaround and select a state in the USA, youre not paying tax in some cases.

In the latter case, would the Aus gov't be entitled to jump in and claim GST?

edit: topic change. lol at this image:

Should there be GST on us buying into a Kickstarter then too?

have you tried to play a steam game offline? holy head fuck.

I haven't had internet for the last 2 weeks and all my installed games work fine.

I will admit that fucking Steam won't let me download any of the ones I bought with hard earned money while I don't have an internet connection though. THAT is unacceptable.

My steam offline has worked perfectly always.

Also, try getting achievements in sc2 when you are offline, or playing when there is server maintenence! And so forth!

And d3 is quantifiably worse off for the 100% online.

Especially since blizzard is so cheap that they dont have one server for us at all. Even EA gives us servers. EA!

Sure, they would, but they don't bother. That's why I assumed the $1000 limit was in place. Because actually enforcing and collecting would cost more than the tax collected.

Getting something declared as 'gift' gets you around that limit as well, doesnt it? The biggest item Ive imported was well less than half that, so Ive never had to consider it.

you guys seem to all be OK with it, but what shan has highlighted here.. it makes things very difficult to play ;_;

I never even get asked to log in :/

Once the PC starts up it brings up the 'no internet connection' window and asks if I want to close Steam or go into Offline Mode.

I thought today they came out and said it would be worth collecting
Last year or whatever I thought the productivity commission said it still wouldn't. Then recently a retail lobby group submitted a report asking the government to consider it, and the government are due to respond soon. Correct me with links if wrong! I might have missed something.

So I'm working with the Penny Arcade guys on PAX Australia as the Event & Marketing Manager!

Someone once described PAX to me as not being a 'consumer' show, but a 'community' show, and after coming back from PAX Prime in Seattle last weekend I have to agree.

The big expo halls filled with publishers are a huge part of it of course, but just as big are all the other areas - the free to play console areas, the random tournaments, the old school gaming setups, beanbags and handheld areas, table top games, the BYOC Lan area, industry panels, nerdcore concerts, Omegathon, and of course Gabe and Tycho gracing our shores in the flesh.

AUSGAF UNITE! What would you all want out of a PAX event? I wanna hear from you.

I'm big on tabletop gaming and want to see the guys behind some of the best indie RPGs like Burning Wheel, 13th Age and Dungeon World on our shores.

Fat chance of that though.

Honestly as long as it compares to the US ones I think you're peachy. We don't want a PAX over here if it's just going to be US-lite or gimped.

Pretty much all of the stuff you listed, plus a nice Australian game dev presence would be nice. Nothing over the top, but some recognition would be awesome.

Also a Half-Life 3 reveal would be nice...

Congrats Yug! Huuuuuuge gig! Basically make it a comfortable place for gamers to hang out. Focus on letting Indie developers set up stalls so people can buy unique t-shirts, posters, books, etc. Get some good big name titles to play on the floor before we can buy them in stores, avoid advertising down our throats. Get some awesome key speakers like ACMI had Tim and Peter.

Halfbrick should have a good stall.
Also get some old guys to do a 'state of Australian gaming' panel. Like Gaz, Good Game people, Serrels, you, etc. Wax lyrical man.
Also D&D and boardgames/Warhammer/Cards is a part of what Penny Arcade is today SO DONT IGNORE IT! Even though I have no interest. No bands either! Maybe something chiptune if needed. Like Anamanaguchi. Get them!

Also Holy cleaners are expensive as fuck! Do it yourself dude.

$100 a month. i'm gonna make my housemate pay atleast 70 of that a month.

I would do it myself but then I have to do it all my self, or spend hours teaching my house mate how to clean. and i'm just sick of it.

Make it aussie

I don't really know what that means or how it should be done but MAKE IT SO

Just a thought, why dobt you arrange it around PAX? Whenever and wherever that is of course

I was thinking the same thing. I'll make an attempt to go to PAX, if it's in Sydney. Most of AusGAF would make their way to PAX if possible, I would imagine.

While Magistrate Lorraine Walker admitted a level of technological ignorance, she related it to the way a sniffer dog can legally use a person's odour to sniff out drugs.

She said that likewise, electronic radio waves are also in the public domain.

Excellent.

Yes to everything you said :)

Pretty much all of the stuff you listed, plus a nice Australian game dev presence would be nice. Nothing over the top, but some recognition would be awesome.

We definately plan to work with the GDAA, IGDA, and local indie groups to make sure they're well represented. It's part of what will make PAX Aus unique.

Honestly as long as it compares to the US ones I think you're peachy. We don't want a PAX over here if it's just going to be US-lite or gimped.

The part I'm most interested in is capturing the 'feel' of the US ones, that sense of non-judgemental community and celebration of all things gaming, but with an Aussie flavour to it.

Make it aussie

I don't really know what that means or how it should be done but MAKE IT SO

I agree, it's for the AUSTRALIAN gaming community, and there is a HUGE fanbase of Penny Arcade followers here, so it's quite an exciting opportunity.

I would be fucking dissapointed if there wasn't an AusGAF party organised at the same time. Seriously, one of the biggest parts of PAX I found out was all the little parties that were organised pre/during/post PAX. Official and non-official ones. It's an excuse for everyone to meet up in person and socialise.

I'm big on tabletop gaming and want to see the guys behind some of the best indie RPGs like Burning Wheel, 13th Age and Dungeon World on our shores. Fat chance of that though.

I think you'd be surprised how many international peeps will come to PAX Aus, but yeah - there will be a big focus on table top.

THIS IS YOUR LUCKY DAY BUDDY 2x$30 FOR $50 AT DSE.

I was so close to selling my ps3, I hope your happy.

I bought my pal copy for $22, not that it helps you at all haha.

anyone hired a cleaner before?

what to expect? mines coming over in an hour for a meeting to organise it

I know a chick at work just fired one (and changed all the locks) as they were stealing. Choose carefully, and check references.

Just wanted to say a) thanks for the mention and b) I'd definitely be up for that. I have some things in the works that I'd love to talk about in time for PAXAU.
and by PAXAU I mean PAX Brisbane
