Can't seem to have luck finding part-time work

*maybe 'find' is a poor choice of word.

So I moved to Sydney from Boston about 6 months ago for college. Semester starts in July, I get my weekly schedule and I have almost 4 complete days off from classes.

I think, Sweet, I'll get a job and make some money.

But no.

People seem to want to hire people, but I'm not having any luck. Have had interviews, trial shifts, etc, but no 'You can start work today'.

I have a feeling I'm going about this the wrong way, but I'm not sure.

Its so depressing :\

edit : sazzy its likely your biggest problem is you are on a visa i imagine? That versus a citizen is a tough sell unfortunately becaues the employer knows you can only hang around for a certain period of time so why train you

employers are blind and think people will stay at their jobs forever (part time ones) for some reason in this country. They learn the hard way they don't. I'd say people like yourself probably owrk harder than the average uni student who is a citizen in a PT job because you know its hard to get one.

Tangentially, it reminds me of telling my very religious minister father that I was agnostic. He seemed... disappointed. He told me that when I told him I had something to tell him, he'd have preferred that I told him I was gay as opposed to a non-believer.

In retrospect, that should have upset me a lot more than it did.

fellow uni student here. Ive had a lot of trouble too. A few interviews here and there, but it wasnt until this semester when i started third year that i was able to land a job in fast food. Its tough, real tough. Most of my friends are in similar situations. The best thing i guess is to not give up, and say whatever you think the employer wants to hear(youll be around for ages etc etc). Good luck ^^ its a tough market atm.
