I originally had an appointment today at an Apple store but I called in advance to check stock because it's a long drive there. She said 'would you take a defective tv you bought from Harvey Norman back to Samsung or Harvey Norman?'

the fuck

apple has always swapped stock, the warranty is with apple not the fucking telco

what if you get a contract a tapple store?

maybe apple changed their policy but they just removed a HUGE reason to stick with iphone if so. (the ability to get something fixed quickly and not have stupidity like 3-4 week waiting times on phone fixes like android etc)

and just on that samsung harveys example, you take it to harveys and under the consumer act 2011 they have to deal with it.

Just like Apple has to deal with this. Pull out the consumer laws and fuck them up and if they don't listen, ACCC that bitch.

That is shoddy as fuck. They have to take it back if they sold it to you.

Did reptile and dead man just triple post or is my phone acting up!

Upon this reply it seems fine. Odd.

Just take it back to apple, there will be a wait though since its a popular device and just out. Otherwise tell Optus they need to doa it for you and go from there.

WiiU is region locked according to Famitsu.

No sale Nintendo.
3DS region lock incensed me enough to import, but that was on the back of the region free DS.

Wii U just follows the same trajectory as Wii, Gamecube, Nintendo 64, SNES and NES before them. I imported the Wii, but I buy so few console games that I'm not certain it's worth the inconvenience.

Daylight

Redeye is a 747 (understandably so with the beds it has)

but even so. if Virgin Australia has IFE on every coast to coast flight, to compete, you need to as well ESPECIALLY when you are more expensive.

I know its a bit firstworldproblems but seriously, Virgin Australia is killing QF right now.

also apparently maps in IOS6 guides car users to the fucking RUNWAY!

melbourne airport just tweeted not to use apple maps until thats fixed to find Tullamarine lol

Did you buy a 360, PS2, GC, XBox, Vita, 3DS or Wii?

That's gunna suck for Vince :p

Also, I probably am just as bad. ;)

Yes, you are bad. :p

Anyway, I'm not going to defend region locking. It's not good.

BUT ... NoE has a fantastic track record this gen of bringing games to PAL region that in previous gens would never have done so. In their favour is stuff like Xenoblade, Pandora's Tower, Last Story, Project Zero 2. To their shame, Fatal Frame 4, Excitebots and Trauma Team. More good than bad.

3DS region locking is a tricky one. To date, the only game that hasnt come out here that I want is Ex Troopers, and it will never come out here apparently. Whereas DS let me import like mad, the only JP games I have are Electroplankton, Ouendan and Ouendan 2, all of which have no entry barrier due to language.

It sucks for multi-lingual gamers sure, but for me right now, I dont see any impact so long as NoE keeps up with their recent good work.

Daylight

Redeye is a 737 with no beds. Or 767. The ones with 6 seats per row.

oh did qantas dump the 747 off the redeye?

there was a period of time they put the 747 on the redeye because of the skybeds in business, guess that wasn't good for them.

FWIW plane was a boeing 767 without skybed

Just ridiculous on the IFE situation. Yet almost every flight to Victoria from Sydney has it which is just ludicrous given the 55 minute flight time. How can they have a long haul plane (the 767 is a LH plane) without IFE in this day and age.

according to this they put the 747 back on PER SYD in July http://www.ausbt.com.au/qantas-brings-back-boeing-747-jumbo-jet-on-sydney-perth-this-week

"The jumbo is assigned to the daily QF581/582 service. QF581 leaves Sydney at 10.10am for arrival into Perth at 1.15pm, then turns around to become the QF582 flight out of Perth at 2.35pm, landing in Sydney at 8.40pm."

because thats a fucking GREAT time for people to sleep to keep their sleep patterns.

FUCK ME QANTAS YOU ARE FUCKING USELESS

I would be surprised if any console or handheld is region free ever again.

Vita came out this year and is region free.

PS4 will be region free, sony has seen to much of a benefit from it to ignore it. Plus it also makes it very hard for mod chips to be legal here. One major reason the PS3 was region unlocked (kid you not, go back and read interviews with Sony about PS3 before it came out, they specifically mention the result of the mod chip case in Australia could lead to a regionless console))

PSN store is locked

PSVita carts are not

just as an aside

apple maps is now getting silly and possibly dangerous. Melbourne Airport just tweeted that if you use IOS Maps it guides you to the main runway, not the terminal building

I'll be traveling to Japan next week with JetStar... No IFE at all I would say. Nexus 7 won't last 9 hours either... better bring a real book.

Choc: I think anyone who tried driving to the runway would probably find their route blocked. Just a hunch. :p

PSN store is locked

PSVita carts are not

So digital games are region locked. Isnt that almost the same as a region locked console given the difference between digital and physical content is negligible these days?

Yes cod and thats fine, but you chose Jetstar knowing this. Qantas calls itself a full service airline

No IFE = Not full service really.

You could prepare knowing you didnt have IFE. Those who assume QF will have IFE because you know its a premium full service airline get boned.

Oh yeah, definitely knew going in. We've got a bag of food for the flight too! Hope they'll supply hot water for instant noodles...

Flown a bunch with Qantas domestic but only once (return) internationally, they were the most rude staff I've ever dealt with on a flight. No interest in supporting them. If Australia wanted an Australian airline perhaps they should fund one, like plenty of other countries.

Stupid bitch. All customers on most if not all brands can either deal with the retailer they bought it from OR the Brand/Supplier it is related to. "Apple has brilliant customer service". My advice is take it further and use your voice a lot it will get you further than you think I have watched it happen many of times.

Also if they are refusing to help you on a warranty claim on something of their brand they are effectively breaking the consumer laws. Speak to the manager or supervisor their BUT be Civil about it don't back down.

I can deal with Wii U being region locked because as far as Nintendo systems are concerned that's the standard. It's disappointing, sure, and even an "at the publisher's discretion" system like the 360 would be preferable, but whatever.

The 3DS region lock was a bitter pill to swallow after decades of non-locked handhelds, especially after the DS the saw import gems like the Jump! Star games, the Ouendan duology, Retro Game Challenge and Umihara Kawase but I took the medicine anyway because denying myself of all the games on the system because of the inability to play a few imports seemed like cutting off my nose to spite my face.

Stupid region locking. Ugh.

Cod... why didn't you say something? We could have warned you... flew jetstar to Japan in 2008. Tiny ass seats( MY legs hurt) that don't recline, tv you have to pay for, horrible crying babies.

I've flown JetStar to and from Singapore before direct from Melbourne. This will be from Coolangatta so I'm OK with it.

Babies can (and will) be on any flight so nothing there to worry about, and I find all economy seats uncomfortable so it makes little difference to me. No IFE isn't a problem since I find it shit on any flight anyway.

If it's a bad flight over I won't care because I'll be in Japan. Bad on the way home is no big deal since I have a couple of days off. Flying's shit regardless and I've never enjoyed it, but it gets me where I need to go so I'll put up with whatever shit they want (except porno scanners and paying for toilets - fuck you RyanAir).

Japan Airlines is probably the best duders I've ever flown with, followed by Singapore Airlines, China Airlines, Virgin Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Jetstar, Qantas, Delta. Some european airline I can't remember the actual name of is slotted between Jetstar and Qantas.

I'm bloody annoyed about this Wii U bs. Justice Kirby went all out against region-locking in Stevens v Kabushiki Kaiba Sony Entertainment back in 2005, though of course judicial opinion got trumped by the free trade amendments in... I don't know, 07, 08?

How much does region locking affect you jintor? Serious question. How often have you been screwed over by not being able to buy a game you want in recent years? And did those games ever come out here, or did you import a system to get around it?

The only place I've really clothes-shopped in London (apart from Oxford St for shoes/sneakers) is Covent Garden, which is worth a look just because it's nice to browse. The Paul Smith store is good for a wander. I basically spent so much there that I had no incentive to look around in any depth at other places.

The staff fuck off if you want, and are extraordinarily, intelligently helpful if you want, which is a tremendous thing.

Also, the Tintin store is godlike.

Stopped in their last time and it was nice.

I would have thought you would be the last one to question people expressing outrage about things based on principles rather than their actual affect on [me][you][delete whichever is inappropriate], especially in the area of consumer rights. I admit to basically agreeing that NOE has not really let me down so far in terms of stuff I like, but as an endemic thingymagig present in gaming going forward it's annoying as hell.

Prey was announced before Duke Nukem Forever. It went through several redesigns, the death of one of the main creative and technical talents, and several platform target changes. Its remarkable that it came out at all, and it did manage to do things no game had done in the ten years since it was announced and it showed all those things to boot.
Who died?

PS. Vagina walls.

PPS. It's a shame they disabled quoting from locked threads. For context, it was in regards to seeing a girl with a 3DS nearby. This was gold:
"Hey do you post on GAF? I'm EviLore."

Worth posting here, IMO.

PPPS. That fucking tramp who married that rich, ugly dude and now has her own TV show? Ugh, pathetic. Almost enough to stop me from watching the Brownlow red carpet thing. Almost.

I enjoyed the first AC as well, but Conviction? That was a kick in the nuts from Ubisoft. I guess you have to be a Splinter Cell fan to be sorely disappointed by Conviction.

I resent that. :p

I reckon I played SCPT VS mode for a good 400 hours or more. The series got overcomplicated and diluted after SCCT, so everything this gen was a disappointment if you were a SC fan last gen. Double Agent was poo.

Conviction I just went into on the assumption it was an entirely different game from a new series with nothing at all to do with the originals. On its own terms it was fine. Simple, dumb fun.

Settle down. I'm asking you how has it affected you. As in which games in particular. I'm not telling you its not important. Read my post again ffs.

I'm hardly shotgunning you! I apologise if that tone came across in my posts.

Hasn't really affected me this gen (as being primarily PC based), but as someone who bought pretty much their entire DS library from the States it's a worry for the future.

I just assumed that being literate in Japanese you would have a different perspective than me to importing. I cant speak or read it, so instantly that rules out a lot of games for me to even bother getting upset about (Ex Troopers not getting localised sucks though). If it was a dual language game or had a low barrier to understanding, I'd be annoyed its not region free.

Probably going to stick down here for the weekend and avoid spending money. Got a big gathering brewing in Geelong if I somehow get crazy and throw caution to the wind!

Nope.

What?
When are digital full release games cheaper than a retail copy somewhere in the world? Once they get under $15 digital releases are much more worthwhile than retail but for the vast vast VAST VAST majority you are better off importing a physical copy.

VAST.

Stupidly predictable.
Yep. This generation has been much better in regard to NoE (lol NOA, poor Americans) but I see no reason for them to lock aside from price gouging.
I guess PC gaming has spoiled me in regards to cost.
This decision isn't a huge shock. Just means I can wait and see where the best prices for games will be, Zavvi or Amazon :)

Might be a WiiU for 2013 Xmas.

Will laugh my arse off if Bayonetta 2 isn't a worldwide release day and date.

Not Jint, but even just on the Wii there's three, possibly four, that I've only been able to get thanks to homebrew workarounds. Captain Rainbow, Excitebots, Kamen Rider: Super Climax Heros (an upcoming release, but I've got it preordered) and that Kirby Collection. Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories and Super Dimension Fortress Macross on Playstation 2. Mobile Suit Gundam: Pilots' Locus and the Japanese versions of Donkey Konga on GCN. A few more Macross games on PS1.

The first half of the Final Fantasy series is only available locally through later ports. Chrono Trigger, too. Dragon Quest I-III and VII are still unavailable at all.

Or is it okay for me to complain about region locking because I bought the systems anyway? Region locking is always a negative and trying to call people out like this is just ridiculous.

Edit: I see you've clarified and so most of this post is irrelevant. Feel free to disregard.

I played Uncharted 3 once! It was OK I guess!

And as of today my house is completely Optus-free. Feels good man etc.

George R R Martin is coming to Supanova! Who wants to volunteer to take a copy of my comic and get a photo of him holding it? :) Dude loves his comics. He wrote a ton of fan mail to all the Marvel comics back in the day.

Word of warning: you might find some of the clothes there a bit...adventurous. Worth checking out for the store itself I reckon, if it's not out of the way.

Note that I haven't been to the London store, or London before, but I've been to the Tokyo store. Also they happen to stock all my fav brands and I love everything associated with Rei Kawakubo lol.
