If you haven't signed up yet, feel free to do so. The more, the merrier.

I'm probably some kind of infant but after five hours of playing Virtues Last Reward in the dark I'm kinda spooked.

That game has some weird shit and some messed up shit. Every plot element that made me think "yeah they've jumped that shark now" has since redeemed itself.

What a game.

Damn how did you get zero escape virtues last reward so early?! I'm waiting for the european version myself.

Came out in America this week! My Vita hardcopy (because I probably should've assigned my Vita to be for my US account) has already shipped, so I'm trying to run through 999 as quickly as I can.

Any Adelaide Crows fans? They've been a bit naughty with Kurt Tippett. Shady backroom deals and illegal clauses in contracts. Expect them to get in a bit of trouble. As a Swans fan I think we should just bail out of any deal now. Let Tippett go to the draft and if we get him so be it.

You think the Crows are the only team doing this?

looks like Gold coast found out about the deal and raised a stink >_>

if Tippett had gone "home" as planned everyone would be none the wiser probably.

ps: if tippett was already on 800k....why even move :/

he must really hate playing for adelaide. (or in adelaide)

This is a good article and largely sums up a lot of my thoughts. Sorry people who write about video games. You get tainted with that brush by association.

Pretty much agree. Although I don't just think this is limited to games journalism, selling out is endemic to western culture at the moment. Pretty much confirms why I don't bother looking at any gaming websites at all, and just get my news from GAF.

One day, I would really like to talk to people in music, tv and movie journalism and see if the same or similar issues are prevalent. I can't help but feel many of these problems result from the sheer difference between reporting news generated by the interactions between myriad real-life consequential individuals and organisations, and reporting news primarily generated intentionally as PR for advertising products.

Fuck. The awesome job I got an offer for but ran into Management Hell when they wrote up the contract ... fell through :-(

That's gonna tarnish the rest of the day. Good thing it's fucking gloomy outside at the moment too. What the fuck is with that anyway? Blue sky from horizon to horizon this morning. Now gloom. Fuck.

Edit: something something first world problem?

By rights, that room should be full of people who feel uncomfortable in each other's company. PR people should be looking at games journos and thinking, "That person makes my job very challenging." Why are they all best buddies? What the hell is going on?

I know its a small industry but that line is crazy true. PR people are my mortal fucking enemy. Except for the few who I'm independently friends with (I think all through working as a journo with) they can all get stuffed. They're annoying, needlessly slow, and worst of all their entire job is to be a barrier between me and answers.

I really think games journalism needs more MSM in it. Somewhere like the Guardian seems to do it pretty well, but otherwise most outlets only talk about video games as the devil. And critics are an easy cut these days. But having the independence and power of a mainstream paper or website means you don't have to worry about pissing off your main sources and advertisers constantly.

Edit: Dude, that sucks. Chin up though man, at least you were that close to getting the job. I mean got to be good news about getting another one right?

That sucks. What was the job?

Gold coast one was a lot smaller than Brisbane. And at least Brisbane has decent parking and transportation.

Hmmmm. If I can convince a mate to go I may give it another chance. The parking was fine for the coast if you just parked at the casino and walked across.

If AusGAF had it's own booth at PAX Aus, there'd probably be a monitor and sound system playing shitty nostalgic ads and songs from YouTube.

It will be a 30 minute talk on how STALKER is the best game ever made and whoever disagrees is escorted out of the room and strangled to death.

It would be half an hour of you speaking very quickly and saying only half sentences at a time.

Everyone would stand around, but noone would really listen.

Also VLR solves the replaying puzzles bit so elegantly.

Gotten two endings so far, disappointed in the lack of grisly player death so far. Actually the one antihype thing is all the loading screens. Like, at least on the Vita, they dont take more than a few seconds, but during the novel sections, you will often run through 4 different loading screens without any text playing as characters run back and forth through the facility.

Dangggggggg I got a voucher for Amazon UK when they cancelled my RATM order that I was going to use on video games that I will never play but now the wife wants to get a Leapfrog gadget for the little guy.

Seems the Leappad has pretty blech reviews so it seems like the cheaper Leapster2 gamepad will be the better option (especially since he has a HP Touchpad anyway!).

Any other parents have ideas about technological stuff for kids? Not sure I am ready to pass along the DS yet.

Job was with Method Studios, the "new fangled digital stuff" division of Deluxe (the company whose logo you see at the end of every single film ever.) I was going to be working on really cool, modern infrastructure stuff. Which would've made a great change from the current dull drag working for a telco with development practises predating the dotcom boom of 2000 (yes, I am gainfully employed, hence "first world problems.")

On the other hand the whole mess has given me the shot in the arm I needed to dust off an old game project and work on it some more. Maybe I should Kickstarter it when it's in slightly better shape...

I bet you could hack an Android tablet to play Leappad ROMs on it or something. Just get a cheap, disposable one and voila! That's on the proviso that what I said actually exists, of course.
