I had an hour of my life suddenly between classes where I suddenly plunged deep into an existential crisis about what to do and what, exactly, it was that I enjoyed about things. But actually it turned out that I had eaten something bad at lunch and had to go lie down for a while.

This one is "only" about $40 (not including shipping). People on eBay are Buy-It-Now-ing for $80-ish so if you're going to get it this is probably your best bet.

Until a day or two ago, HobbyLink Japan had an 'Order Stop' on it as they had filled their pre-orders. With the Samus figma figurine, I saw it a total of six times in Japan, and trust me, I looked at a LOT of places with figmas. I think they're either limited or aren't being resold.

Thanks, BoB, might change the order to AmiAmi (I had checked them the other day too). Do they offer SAL shipping I wonder?

Edit: Yes, they do offer SAL.

They do indeed offer SAL.

This delay is actually quite handy for me. Means I can combine it with an order for a game I have through AmiAmi for next month and save a bit on shipping.

Edit: Dredd 2D

It was a good dumb movie. Nice amount of violence. Probably one too many lulls in the action. I'd say the raid: redemption was better in that regard. Also coulda done with more slow motion gunfights to fix my max payne fetish.

I liked it for what it was: dumb action film. But I liked it because someone cared about making it an enjoyable dumb action film.

Sounds like the Half in the Bag review was spot on then. I doubt it will ever get a run down here

Yuppp, gonna combine it with my momohime figure!

Thanks for the heads up cods!

Oh and sal is incredibly slow of course, and it might be even slower since it's basically end of the year and stuff. May be worth paying a little more for the airmail/ems.

This is a good article and largely sums up a lot of my thoughts. Sorry people who write about video games. You get tainted with that brush by association.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-10-24-lost-humanity-18-a-table-of-doritos

So this blew up a bit. The writer has 'stood down' from writing for Eurogamer after they received threats of law suits because of content in the article and Eurogamer edited out that content.

Robert Florence is standing by his original article, clearly.

Fucking ridiculous situation.

Hahah what

What kind of lawsuits could they bring there? Oh, Wainright complained. Eurogamer noted it. Hmmm... I suppose it could be defamation perhaps.

If he was there and heard it all and there are public tweets backing up his story. Defamation is... errr... what exactly?

Legally speaking, it's anything that would lower someone's reputation in the eyes of the general public. [I assume UK law is concurrent with Au law, although I believe they still split it into slander (spoken/broadcast) and libel (written/'permanent')]. True statements can be libellous, but in a court of law they're also defensible under justification - Truth is a complete defence.

It's honestly probably better if Eurogamer folds because anybody who gives a shit will know very soon what was removed and, thanks to the magic of the internet, those comments will never go away.

The offending passages that were removed (2 journalists that tweeted and threatened Eurogamer)
One games journalist, Lauren Wainwright, tweeted: "Urm... Trion were giving away PS3s to journalists at the GMAs. Not sure why that's a bad thing?"

Now, a few tweets earlier, she also tweeted this: "Lara header, two TR pix in the gallery and a very subtle TR background. #obsessed @tombraider pic.twitter.com/VOWDSavZ"

And instantly I am suspicious. I am suspicious of this journalist's apparent love for Tomb Raider. I am asking myself whether she's in the pocket of the Tomb Raider PR team. I'm sure she isn't, but the doubt is there. After all, she sees nothing wrong with journalists promoting a game to win a PS3, right?

Another journalist, one of the winners of the PS3 competition, tweeted this at disgusted RPS writer John Walker: "It was a hashtag, not an advert. Get off the pedestal." Now, this was Dave Cook, a guy I've met before. A good guy, as far as I could tell. But I don't believe for one second that Dave doesn't understand that in this time of social media madness a hashtag is just as powerful as an advert. Either he's on the defensive or he doesn't get what being a journalist is actually about.

To say that you cannot quote from a public tweet makes you look guilty as all fuck.

She can seriously get fucked. Another person dragging gaming journalism deeper into the festering shithole.

Bravo. Just outstanding.

Why should a journalist in gaming even give a fuck at this point? They aren't rewarded for doing the right thing, better off taking the bribes, taking the junkets, taking the pre-written previews and just accepting that bank deposit whenever it arrives. Like a fucking addict, desperate for another 300 published and paid words.

See above, she should sue herself for damaging her own reputation.

The video game media industry is seriously a parody.

I just want to play games.

But you will only end up getting run out of the business broken hearted :(

Or maybe things will change soon. Maybe those with integrity and understanding of ethics will get some money behind them to break the shackles of the system. Hopefully.

The future is Polygon and their awfully designed maga-site with embedded gifs.

Games are alright. I got home earlier than usual tonight, so I decided to give that 999 game a proper go...only because I want to get the new one so I have something to play on vita:/

Made some progress, it's interesting.

I would, but I'm based in Sydney now ... I haven't been back to Bris since the beginning of the year, it's kinda weird actually.

Hopefully be up there in a few months, but not around Supanova time unfortunately.

Tell me more about your stupid video game comics :)

Bummer! I'd say I'll catch up with you at AusPAX, but I have a feeling you're going to be busy that weekend :)

So I make Blow The Cartridge. You tell me an old game, I make a comic about it. The first print collection of these went on sale earlier this year, and now the second issue will be here for Supanova! It contains over 30 pages of full colour retro gaming goodness. People seem to like it, I guess?

Hmmmm. If I can convince a mate to go I may give it another chance. The parking was fine for the coast if you just parked at the casino and walked across.

Do it do it do it do it! It'll be fun, I tell's ya!

As I was saying on Twitter tonight not even Brendan Brewer can make fun of this stuff. It's just insane.

Games journalism imploding before my eyes

Help me write a parody newswire of this [i.e. think up my ideas for me while I play Binary Domain/watch Nintendo direct]

Ha ha, that picture of Geoff Keighley next to the Doritos and Mountain Dew is hilarious.

The video is even worse. Some painful quotes, you can just feel the barbed wire up Keighley's arsehole as he shits out another paid presentation.

Sucks since he has done great work before.

Hehe, I'm not upgrading but I guess many over here were interested in Win8.

Also, Engadget surface review.

If gaming and music and movies and reading are what you're looking to enjoy, then we might advise sitting this one out for a few months just to make sure that all your bases will indeed be covered. If, however, you're looking for an impeccably engineered tablet upon which you can do some serious work, a device that doesn't look, feel or act like a toy, then you should get yourself a Surface with Windows RT.
