First night in new house. Feels very weird without any highway noise. I can't seem to get any sleep, and without blinds it feels like I'm being watched.

Rep, any update on the blinds? Can you give me a tentative price? Thanks.

but ever so delicious
I think I have food poisoning or some form of it. I'm beyond weak, I can barely lift anything with my arms. Everything feels funny. It feels like a quick and brutal attack of a cold, I'm pretty sure it's not a cold though.

I nearly passed out on the toilet a few hours ago, That was fun. I'm guessing going from a super warm bed to the cold of the night, was a bad idea. Entire body was sweating.

So, As someone who has never had this before, Any tips or tricks? Should I try and induce vomiting or just wait it out and it will pass through over the next day or two?

Now to try and get some more sleep.

drink heaps of water even if you aren't thirsty to ensure you are hydrated, if you are having trouble keeping down food try just dry toast or with just a tiny amount of margarine and or some kind of spread (honey or vegimite)

craig is worst bond and qos was a giant steaming pile of shit

also markot im assuming you got jrd for the hating hispanic thread

PC > 360.
Know what the main problem I had with it was?
"Oh, we need to get away from that burning building that was attacked by fuckloads of men with guns as soon as possible. It's night-time, SO LETS USE A FUCKING TORCH SO ANY SURVIVING, GUN TOTING KILLERS CAN SEE WHERE WE'RE GOING." Fuck me, that was daft.

I liked that the island they went to was actually that island I read about a little while ago before this movie was announced that was abandoned yonks ago. That was cool.

Also liked the metaphor (I think) that was with the Aston going up in flames, it signifies the death of old-style Bond plotlines? There was far less womanising and goofiness in Skyfall than others, IMO.

Also, I need to rewarch the other two Craig ones. In fact, I don't think I've watched the one that wasn't Casino Royale. But I have played Blood Stone, so that kinda makes up for it.

Fuck me, I love that movie. As far as blowing shit up goes, it really doesn't get much better. With the possible exception of the first movie and True Lies (but the first movie really only blowed up one or two things, whereas the third blowed up a stack of stuff).

Just wanted to get in on the Bond/Die Hard love in going on here. I watched Die Hard 1 and 2 over Christmas (they're Christmas movies shut up) and holy shit the first one is amazing. Possibly my favourite action movie ever. I'll have to give With a Vengeance a go in the next few days.

My biggest problem with Skyfall (which I loved) was
what the shit were the other 00s doing? They see a criminal attack the head of MI6 in public and what, they just think "you know what? I'm sure Bond's got this."

And at the end, with the introduction of, I feel bad putting this in even in spoilers, new old characters shall we say? it kind of felt like the end of the prequels to me. Like the old Bonds take place after Skyfall. Which obviously doesn't make sense with the Aston and you know Cold War and shit, but still.

It's the only way you'll be able to appreciate GiantBomb's Biggest Disappointment of 2012

of which they previously gave a 4/5 to in their review.

Haha oh my. I thought the giantbomb people thought they were outside the hype cycle. Shouldnt expect more from gamespot people.

Which is perfectly acceptable? Game was a disappointment while at the same time still decent.

Hell, their review scale has always varied depending on who's reviewing it. It's the nature of a personality-driven site.

Their biggest disappointment was 1/5th of a point? That's an effin good year. Or shoddy review standards.

If you go in thinking everything is going to be 5/5 and then they end up being 4/5 which makes you think they're the biggest disappointment of the year...

That's either your own fault for having unfair expectations or it's highlighting an issue with your reviews.

Assasins Creed 3 is not a 1/5 or a 2/5 game, so at some point your arguing whether it should be a 3/5 or 4/5, which is just dumb. Game was a disappointment, with many, many fucking problems, and yet it was up there with some of the best I've played all year. Recieving 4/5 and most disappointing still makes sense.

DAMN YOU ARE NEEDY CAT LET ME TYPE WITHOUT SCRATCHING THE SHIT OUT OF ME
Already pulled 2 threads on the back of my brand spanking new Port jumper :(

The Man With The Shitty Golden Gun

Movie - 1.5/5 (I'm being generous here. Just terrible. Chris Lee has some great work towards the very end of the protracted movie but is wasted for the most part with an awful script. The writing for the Bond girl is fucking disgusting.)
Transfer - 3.5/5 (Several low grade scenes, including intercutting ones. Doesn't pop off the screen like the other movies which is strange)

Fucking terrible. Almost insulting at times.

Tasmania is the best state.
To retire to maybe.

And I actually did vote for Primordia because there wasn't anything else on there I wanted.
Serious? I thought you posted that you voted for something else

If they even made it to the church without the torch, it would've been enough for Benicio Lopez or whatever to not follow them there. I don't think he even thought of looking until he saw the torch because he didn't know there was a secret tunnel and figured they burned with his house. Also, I wish there were more gadgets than just that gun, but the Aston made up for it so that's okay.
She is an old lady dude, being hunted to death and is already badly wounded. Of course she grabs a torch to see where the fuck they are fleeing to out in the middle of fucking nowhere! She has never even been there before!
Also the dude who wants her dead is a trained secret agent that she mentored! The dude is smart as fuck and wants nothing more than to make her watch her life drain away. He will hunt her to the ends of the Earth unless her protector takes him down first.

The Aston being used as a booby trap came across for me as Bond utilizing every asset he has at his disposal, as well as destroying it cuts off any means of escape making Skyfall the last stand for Silva and Bond.
Two men entered the land, only one will leave.

I liked that they had Q in this one! They actually had more gadgets than usual here. Any more would have been silly, especially since the last 1/3 of the movie is very cut down and personal. It needed to be raw and basic for the Skyfall showdown.

Isn't the original casino royale more of a parody? Its not really a 'bond' film.
It is indeed a parody, Sellers does a great job even if the whole thing is as much of a mess on screen as it was to create. I have a soft spot for it due to the absurd nature of the story. I recommend watching it at least once, with alcohol if possible.

Take the final section of Skyfall. That in itself was a great movement. I had one thought in particular:
Home Alone :D
I had more of a
Night of the Living Dead
feel to be honest. In any case it was very well directed and acted. The last half of the movie was fan-fucking-tastic.

Don't worry too much, I know people in our area that have gone 12+ months without putting up ANYTHING. I wouldn't be able to do it though. Hang some sheets up at night if need be.

I'll stop in today and grab the prices and information I will need, I'll shoot it through on a PM along with the other details.

I nearly passed out on the toilet a few hours ago, That was fun. I'm guessing going from a super warm bed to the cold of the night, was a bad idea. Entire body was sweating.
Probably more from getting up from laying down. Happens to me every now and then when I am extremely dehydrated. Feels fucking awful hey, I don't want to die on the toilet. :/

Try and sleep it off, drink fuckloads of water. Really bad head colds/chest infections getting around at the moment. My headcold hit Thursday last week and was intense, eased up on the Monday thankfully.

My biggest problem with Skyfall (which I loved) was

At the start of the movie Silva gets the NOC list which I expect led to a LOT of work for MI6 agents all over the world, even though M didn't want to pull them out they would still need to offer overwatch protection to those agents.
Also Eve pulled out of the field after shooting Bond to cover Mallory so that is another down.
Plus no-one does it as well as 007!

The epilogue was fantastic, a great nod to the series in general. Probably in mind because of the 50th anniversary. Worked well though. Although the great M is gone it was a way to show that MI6 will never end, as they discuss at the hearings MI6 is needed more than ever to protect society. Technology improves but manpower will always be an important component.

Haha oh my. I thought the giantbomb people thought they were outside the hype cycle. Shouldnt expect more from gamespot people.
No reviews I have read from Giant Bomb have convinced me they are overly different to the rank and file of the media industry.

I watched Casino Royale when it was on tv once. It was weird >_< I love Sellers, Dr Strangelove is my favouritest movie ever. But its just... really a mess, like they threw it together and just randomly put bits together. It wasnt that funny either... Its weird cause its got amazing actors in it, Niven, Welles, sellers. Its like the movie didnt know what it wanted to be.

I actually have to agree with reggie for once. The nature of expectations means that even a 4/5 game can still be disappointing. Especially AC3, with AC2 and Brotherhood being some of the best games of their respective years, it was expected that with another change of setting and the expected conclusion of the Desmond story, that AC3 would be equally amazing as its predecessors.

What else can win it for them anyways, half of them loved Mass Effect 3 so that's out. Plus there's the whole thing about the review only being done by one person while this award was chosen by five people.

I guess the issue is that a game of lesser quality than AC2 and ACB would be expected to recieve a score lower than 4/5.

Although they did give the exact same score to AssCreeRev so it mainly just shows that their review score system isn't very good. I agree that it would be a disappointment to most people considering the promise from previews.

They also gave AssCreeLib on Vita a lower score so who knows, they don't make much sense outside of just being personal opinions that hold no critical water.

Also metacritic gives me a convineant number to base my feels off.

In fact I just bought FTL cause I felt like it! Feelings!

I really don't think that a 4/5 should ever be called disappointing. It's part of the 7-10 review scale issue, where a 7 has become disappointing, 8 has become flawed, 9 is the expectation and 10 is moneyhats.

At no point should 4/5 be a disappointment and should never, ever be a "Biggest Disappointment of the Year." What that's implying is that a game that received a 1 point deviation from your expectation to reality is the most deviation any game received that year. At that point, I can only assume that a) Every other expectation you had that year was spot on, b) your expectations for the game were unfairly high (so much so that they were expecting 6/5), or c) your review scores are broken.

Taking a look at Giantbombs review for the Assassin's Creed games...:

Assassin's Creed: Not Reviewed
Assassin's Creed 2: 4/5
Assassin's Creed BroHo: 5/5
Assassin's Creed Revel: 4/5
Assassin's Creed 3: 4/5

It reviewed on-par with 2 out of the 3 previous games that they reviewed which makes Brotherhood the anomaly. Their review scale means that AC3 is roughly of similar quality as both AC2 and AC2Rev. The question then is whether the use of their own review scale is the issue or the score that they are handing out.

Or, that after (assuming that Assassin's Creed 1 would have received 4/5 or less) 4 our of the 5 previous games were of 4/5 quality, perhaps assuming the next iteration of the series would get higher that a 4/5 is perhaps unfair and a cause for concern.

Only holds fast if you think reviews are objective. If you recognise that they're subjective when reviewed by different people everything falls into place.

Probably because reviews bring in the most page hits because people cannot resist going to them and arguing over review scores

First and foremost most disappointing is awarded by 5(?) people, AC3 was reviewed by one.

Second, a game not being allowed to recieve both a 4/5 and most disappointing... Says who? It wasn't a terrible year for games (wasn't amazing either, but that's not my point), AC3 being most disappointing in 2012 when it's up against Mass Effect 3 (and pretty much that alone) isn't much of a stretch. It's all about expectations.

I mainly expected Resident Evil 6 to be Most Disappointing Game for most outlets.

Most places gave AssCree3 a near perfect score in spite of the general gamer opinion of it and Mass Effect 3 really only cops criticism for the ending, not the rest of the game.

THPS HD gets my vote for biggest disappointment. How they fucked that up I will never understand. Robomodo still haven't done a good game, let alone a great one.

Big W have the Goldeneye Wii remake with Gold Pro Controller for $24 instore

Only holds fast if you think reviews are objective. If you recognise that they're subjective when reviewed by different people everything falls into place.
If you (the game site) are not going to be accountable or referential to the very scores that you hand out, that's a concern. You can't hand out grades to the games if, at the end of year, you admit that they don't actually hold much merit.

This isn't about holding review scores as objective, it's holding the site accountable for what they choose to grade their games and about their consistency. If they gave the Game of the Year award to a game that they also scored 3/5 I would similarly think it a cause for concern and also highlight an issue with their review system.

First and foremost most disappointing is awarded by 5(?) people, AC3 was reviewed by one.
As a group they should stand behind the scores that they hand out. You can't give a grade for a review and then use the "well, that was one person's opinion" excuse when it suits you to be contrary. As a group you should stand by that one person's opinion, otherwise don't offer it as a determination for your entire site.

Second, a game not being allowed to recieve both a 4/5 and most disappointing... Says who? I agree that it's all about the expectations. But when you give something a 4 points out of a possible 5 points and that it the most disappointing thing all year? That highlights an issue with your expectations. No one should have expectations of 5/5 games; that's unreasonable, unfair on the developers and will only lead to you feeling that 4/5 games are the most disappointing game in the entire year. To restate what I wrote above:

At no point should 4/5 be a disappointment and should never, ever be a "Biggest Disappointment of the Year." What that's implying is that a game that received a 1 point deviation from your expectation to reality is the most deviation any game received that year. I think it speaks more about a group of people's ability to regulate their own levels of hype than the quality of the games for the year.

Anyway, I've just looked at list of review scores that they've handed out this year and have noted that they seem to lack any consistency and holding them to their scores or any accountability for them is now highlighting an issue with me not being able to identify that I'm now the one expecting too much.

I think it's a mistake to view reviews as representing the whole site, comprised of many different people full of many different opinions, when it's really one person's opinion.

Giant Bomb especially makes it clear to distinguish each staff member, their personalities and their likes and dislikes. An AC3 review by Ryan Davis doesn't and definitely shouldn't mean Jeff, Vinny, Brad or Patrick have to feel the same way about the game.

I'll get into this when I'm not on a phone - if I can bare it - but I'll just say now that assassins creed 3 isn't anything more than a 2/5. Subjectivity and all of that, but I think Ryan might be a bit fucked in the head when it comes to expensive games.

I agree with the core idea that a 4/5 game can be most disappointing. I feel that mass effect 3 deserves a 3 or 4, and is still the game that killed that franchise for me.

I just think Ryan is out of touch with that series. Assassins creed 3 was atrocious, and while I never went to giant bomb for their reviews to fill in a gap in my own experience, it does make me a bit more skeptical of him. Nothing dodgy, more that... Ryan's opinions aren't relevant to me anymore.

I'll expand on that later i suppose.

I never really take the opinion of one sole reviewer seriously anyway. I think taking in account several opinions on one game is a more reliable metric of whether you are going enjoy a game or not.

Believe me, it was a bitter sweet victory. I was wrecked with anticipation and they totally picked the right game.

But then I remembered they gave both of those games good reviews and it did seem rather silly.

I guess it is strange then that they don't distinguish each review, as like any other media entity they have a reviewers name next to the review but like any other media entity it is listed as Giant Bomb's review everywhere.
