So, from what I've been able to gather, the big Nintendo thing that happened was Sega announcing that they'll have three exclusive Sonic games for the Wii U. One of them is the Olympics game, another is some "action adventure platformer" (which I'm guessing will likely be shit) and a third game.

Sega STILL haven't gotten their Sonic platformers where they should, so as long as Sonic All-Star Racing 3 isn't considered a "Sonic" game (I don't think Transformed really was) then I don't think this is the big ZOMG news everyone makes it out to be.

I think the difference with the WiiU is that there is no real generational difference between a number of different competing platforms. Apart from mobile devices, it's only really a two horse race with the Vita (one could argue the PSP is the only real contender, though). I think the fact that the 3DS is pretty much a DS and that it's a very easy and cheap platform to create games for (plus not having any real competition at the moment) is more of a contributing factor than anything else.

With home consoles it's currently competing against the current generation of consoles (and doing poorly) but soon it's going to have to go up against newer, PC-derivative architecture, easier to program for systems.

I'm not doom-and-glooming, nor do I have any personal or emotional stakes in Nintendo's future well-being but it is looking fairly dire. At this point they need a game that is going to capture the zeitgeist like Wii Fit or Wii Sports in order to gain traction in the home.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
Best thing about owning both a Nintendo Dreamcast and PlayStation Morto is that when a good game finally releases on one I can swap it with the other to keep my paper weighted.

The Wii U has been nothing short of a giant fuck-up in the market, so far anyway. Hard to imagine it could be worse short of literally not having any games at all. But like every Nintendo system will eventually justify its price, if you're into the library. I have 2D Mario, NintendoLand, and ZombiU. I'm going to get Kart, 3D Mario, Bayonetta 2, and TW101. I'm happy.

Oh puh lease. Nintendo under estimated 3rd party support, and had some delays to titles. Its not the end of the world you racist, trust you to love that zeitgeist movie.

The DS didnt set the boards on fire when it launched, neither did the 3ds. The Wii is an anamoly because of the whole motion and wii sport thing.

Vita is dead on arrival cause Sony has no games. Nintendo can turn things around cause its all about games. Games!

I think you meant to say "over estimated" 3rd party support because if this is greater than they had originally planned they really do need some new business analysts.

Also, please advise to what extent "some delays to titles" somehow excuses six retail releases this year. Two of those six were The Croods and Marvel Avengers. Another one was Need for Speed: Undercover. Monster Hunter was the fourth. Injustice and Lego City were the only two that were not late release ports and were new and interesting.

But not to worry, only another two and a half months until something comes along that a WiiU owner can get excited about. It's lucky that Lego City is so good and takes a long time to 100%, huh?

Once again, I'm not invested in the platform in any way, but Nintendo deserve someone to have some half decent arguments as to why they're not in trouble. You are not that person, it seems.

You don't seem to know much about business.

The Vita for Sony is a lower tier product than the mainline consoles.
The big money for Sony is in PS3/PS4.

Nintendo sold a fuckton of Wii's. They are doing a fuckton wrong to sell WiiU's. The comparison of WiiU to Vita does not work.

Also I don't own either so I win!
Always wait for the price drop and at least a dozen games you will get hours of love out of

Don't get me wrong, Vita is doomed too. I just happen to have skipped like two generation's worth of Playstation games and are finally catching up on a portable device, so it's personally worth a lot more to me.

Mannnnnnnnn that is an awesome first 8 months! I bought all those games once I got a PS2 in 2002. Strange to think they were all so early in the life of the console!

They're the best and lots of fun. My gran has used "sugar" for years, typical old lady swear. So that's a start. Sugar, fudge, shove it up your jumper.

My favourite slight is to call someone a 'blot on one's escutcheon'. It's so old and wonderful.
