AusGAF 9 - F*** Off, We're Full (Of People With Different Ethnic Backgrounds)

How did you use Telstra prepaid credit, BTW? I didn't realise you could use it for music...

Telstra credit is basically money on the play store. Simply select funding by telsra credit while checking out, and you can use that to buy anything from games, music, apps, movies or books.

Make sure you're using 3G while checking out, won't work over WiFi. Once you buy it, you can download it over WiFi.

What's a good cheap indoor antennae?

The Hitler 9000

couldn't resist. Indoor aerials are shit with digital TV unless you are in an area with really strong signal.

or you could just daisy chain a bunch of coaxial cables together if you have some lying around.

I think reception is good here. Nearly no one has outdoor antennas here.

Its good mostly with the rabbit ears, but its not super great.

Karnivool are one of those bands you write off as a not-quite nu-metal assembly of guys who just really goshdarn like Tool a whole bunch, but when you listen to them you realise they actually have some chops.

Butterfly Effect and Cog et al., now they're entirely disposable.

My outdated opinions are briefly relevant again! http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/hottest100/alltime/20years/

Anyone voting and have a list to share?

TWENTY YEARS? Why are you doing this? Fredescu, stahp.

The correct answer for 'most punchable parliamentarian' is in actual fact Christopher Pyne.

Similarly, the correct answer for 'most best video game' is indeed Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen.

Catching up on Idle Thumbs walking back from work these days. It really should be called Cynical Thumbs. Shits me I can't throw up counterpoints to discussions, the achievements one really made me think of 'old men and clouds'. They give a lot more positive constructive criticism outside of the cast. The best moments on the cast are when they aren't talking about a game in particular, just shooting the shit. Up to the Quakecon 2012 cast and Breckon going on about Walking Dead new game + is fucking gold.

If you're not already, TBJ really is one of the best podcasts for listening to a bunch of Joes shoot off on wild tangents shooting the shit. Doesn't matter if you don't even really follow basketball. I don't play many video games (except the only one that ever matters) let alone anything that Idle Thumbs play and yet I'm a stalwart subscriber.

Heyoooo!

Also, I have a job interview with the ABC on Friday. Mega excited

I've had sex with a former Hack presenter. Not saying who, but I will say her vagina is asymmetrical. One side be all like, "Labia Minor? What labia minor?". The other side looks like a pipe bomb went off in a boutique Italian delicatessen. An expensive boutique Italian delicatessen.

3am is way too fucking early for video game news. I only want to know the name of the console.

Like every growing boy needs, I like Tool. No offence to you if that's a deeply-revered band of yours, but their sound is just a wee bit derivative.

You must also understand I'm old now. I got the new Cat Empire album and its inoffensive melodies really speak to me.

Tool is my favourite band, Saw them a few weeks ago which was fantastic.

Soen isn't too bad though, But they are certainly influenced by tool and while there's nothing unique to it, It's honestly not completely boring. Some catchy riffs thrown throughout the album. Since there was Karnivool influenced by tool talks, I figured I would throw another band in there.

I actually made a REALLY lengthy post in the OT about what I think the main difference between old Thumbs and new is, that being because two of them aren't journalists anymore (Nick and Chris) that they only active exposure to the games industry that they really have is playing games (and to a much lesser extent, forums), point being that they're not actively seeking stuff out and coming across random things like horse bags, shadows, colossuses and the like.

Jake's let on in said OT that there's a bit on his mind regarding F2P and how it may wind up or whatever, so hopefully that'll get them talking about something that isn't just related to a specific game. It's easier to relate to a broad topic of discussion (ie. ALL MUSIC ON CD SUCKS, DISCUSS) and contribute, than something like "I really don't like the way this particular game mechanic works in DOTA2".
Or they might mention a game, but talk about it before anyone knows (at least me) what it is, a la Kerbal. If they maybe held off discussion for a week, mentioned the week before that they were planning on talking about it, at least we'd have some base knowledge to appreciate the discussion (rather than expect them to explain everything from the ground up).

They've done that before when it mattered (e.g. Frog Fractions) but for games like Kerbal, Cart Life, Miasmata etc, there's really no need for them to hold back. You can always play something and go back and listen if you want to compare their thoughts with yours.

Thanks for the recommendations Shaneus and Dead Man
and cods
.

Most of those albums are $5.99 on play store, which is reasonable compared to RAM and TRON priced at $12.99.

I can get max 4 albums with the remaining credit.

This is a very odd time for KRudd to announce this. Could there be something afoot in Canberra? I know I know I sound like a Journo but I dunno man....
I sure hope so! Its a bit of a gamble but considering polls seem to suggest the majority of us support gay marriage this might be enough to garner Labor more support.

With the state Labor is in in the polls, they could be desperate enough at this point to garner support that they would tell the churchie lobby groups to get stuffed. KRudd wouldn't have made any friends in that demographic by saying this.

It will definately help Rudd in the partay.

One more bad poll and maybe?

Problem is, in 2007 the churchie types moved to labour (Although everyone did cause howard and workchoices were so on the nose....) but its a big point for them to be scared over whenever they do the numbers.

Fuck channel 7. Fuck them in the arse with a camel hoof. Fuckers take all V8 racing, and promote a great overseas race, which occurs at 4am. Instead of a full replay during the day, they have a 1 hour highlights package, so they can show football on one channel (fair enough) and fucking reruns and reality tv shows on the others. Fucking fuckheads.

I'm just popping in here to be a douchebag and say maybe you should get Foxtel.

Daft punk is so over rated >_<

Theyre the chevy chase of electronica.

They make the chemical brothers look like my chemical romance.

They made the dust brothers look like the bee gees.

They make the bee gees look like the partridge family.

They make the partridge family look like the jackson 5.

They make jackson 5 look like maroon 5.

Kids these days.

I feel weird, I'm agreeing with markot. New album is a crazy let down.

I was supposed to be going to Alive2007 but there was a 'work emergency'. I don't think I've recovered yet.

I am genuinely sorry for your loss.

I'm getting up at 2am to watch the GTTV pre-show (if it's rubbish I'll switch to the Verge stream) and then the Xbox announcement. VIDEO GAMES YOU GUYS.

Oh and I've nearly finished the latest Tomb Raider.

Would I like to be woken by the neighbour revving his fucking motorbike in the backyard more or less right next to my head for 10 fucking minutes? Well it fucking happened so who knows. Jesus, I was already having some weird nightmare about driving with the radio on, I swear to god the radio program turned into a series of demonic glitching and I nearly dream-crashed my dream-car. God damnit, that's not a good way to wake up

Man this twilight lecture from my children's lit unit is making me look at twilight and all forms of adolescent fiction in a totally different light. Holy shit, themoreyouknow.jpg.

GT is the most "official" pre and post show, yes? I recall hearing that Major Nelson was doing something, but I think it was only a post-show thing (separate from the GT thing).

Ack, I cannot think of a worse way to wake up.

Hey, at least you got to sleep though :p I think I'm gonna have to quit one of these jobs... somethings gotta give and I'd rather it not be sleep or my gpa.

What's the deal with breastfeeding in public? I'm at the airport and this lady right next to me is flashing her full right teet while her infant son enjoys his breakfast.

There's a lot of stuff about the subtext the series presents about sexual abstinence and how it feels intentionally written in response to our modern culture about "open" sexuality, anecdotes from fans of the series confirming the assertion that it's promotion of such values are one of the reasons for it's popularity, of course on the subject of "sexual abstinence" a lot of examples from the book on how it promotes those values, with some interesting arguments presented by the lecturer and academics he refers to in the lecture, a lot of stuff on "popular" pedagogy: the idea that fiction and other forms of art are what pushes values and norms to adolescents and not what they're learning in the classroom etc, plus a big thing about the conventions of the romance novel and how twilight shares a lot of it's characteristics, plus in the last 5-10 minutes of the lecture, the lecturer takes a hugeee critical perspective on the gender roles presented in the novel, basically taking a huge dump on it with academic language.:p
