Honestly without having read up on it, this Occupy Melbourne thing sounds like it's full of people who post things like "Post this status if you X to support X" on Facebook, without ever actually doing anything relevant about it.
It is. In spirit, the protest has good intentions, but it's largely irrelevant to Australian society (Occupy Wall Street has significantly greater value in the context of America), and like most protests has devolved into nonsense. It's full of of hippies trying to change the world by sitting in tents braiding each others hair, socialist fuckstains (among others) hjyacking the event to push their own bigoted agenda, and your stereotypical cop haters who believe that by claiming 'peaceful protest' in a public space that gives you complete rights to do whatever you want, wherever you want, for as long as you want, regardless of any detrimental impact on other civilians and their businesses.
Your typical art student wanker protester who wants to change society, because 'fuck the man, man!', without actually doing anything productive to, you know,
change society. And, as usual, cops will be painted in a negative light regardless of what they do and to whom, because also fuck the police etc etc.
