Haha, of course. DmC is that kind of low-level thing where you don't even consider it, though.

Bayo >DMC > Ninja Gaiden > GoW (?) DmC
I would even say that GoW doesn't belong in the group as it is more of a hack and slash designed game. It has a bit of depth but Bayo, NG, DMC et al require quite a bit of practise with the combat system to get through a level without being torn to shreds while GoW is easy to pick up and play in comparison as the enemies can be dealt with in a very basic manner.

The DmC gameplay video didn't fill me with confidence the way that the player just spammed uppercut and sat there in the air slicing up the enemy. Maybe Bayo 2 will be what is required to wash the taste out, still love booting up DMC3 on my PS2.

Excellent.

Speaking of great games that don't take themselves seriously: Resident Evil 4. The game is absurd for all the right reasons, and revels in it. YOUR RIGHT HAND COMES OFF?!

Genius!

Seriously? Neither Trenched, Stacking or Costume Quest did anything for you?
Actually, I know you bought CS, so I'm not sure where you're coming from, you incoherent bastard.

The going deaf part was just a joke :p I'm still young and this really does seem like an ear infection going by some of the other symptoms I have.

Though if it persists after tomorrow then I shall go to a doctor, any recommended ones in Holland Park/Greenslopes area (Brisbane)?

stranger things have happened....

my mum (only 40s) one day out of nowhere..... found that she was deaf in one ear...

we suspect dad's snoring ._.

I work for the gods of gaming!!! I am here to give you premium gaming games for low low low pricings!!!

Also they just generally have cheaper prices than anywhere else. Plus checking Zavvi and Playasia is hard since you have to factor in postage (and conversion rate in Zavvi's case).

Also do it.

Yeah, God of War is generally a bit of a different thing, but people seem to like including it so I just kinda threw it in there.

I haven't watched any of the DmC stuff outside of the initial couple of trailers, but I'm generally pretty indifferent to the whole project. I don't have anything against Ninja Theory, but they have their strengths and they're generally not in the areas that I would look to for that kind of game.

I actually really liked Brutal Legend. The world was great, and the core gameplay was pretty fun and well realised. The problem was the structure built around it (a whole faction being pretty much wasted in the single player, for example). From my observations, a lot of the negative feedback was more from people not understanding what the game was going into it.

Schafer himself certainly seems to have been taking more of a back seat, producerial role since then, though. Maybe he'll look at the success Telltale have enjoyed and try another adventure game. Really though, I'm happy to try pretty much anything he (and Double Fine generally) put out.

DMC is the series started by Kamiya and continued by Capcom. DmC is the reboot of said series currently under development by Ninja Theory of Heavenly Blade and Enslaved fame.

DmC is the reboot currently being worked on at Ninja Theory using UE3. It looks like it will play a bit different to the older games but looks visually stunning.

yeah I really enjoyed it too. The music and the world were stunning. Simply false advertising created the backlash. The RTSlite elements were great but a lot of people didn't want to play that kind of game. All the Double Fine mini games have been great but I want another Lucasarts classic. :(
Preferably get Bill Tiller on board!

Speaking about growing out of games that take themselves too seriously: Halo.

My god, bungie story writers must think they are the heirs to Asimov, Clarke, Brin, Bear and Herbert. In truth they come across as incoherent as Card.

I used to watch and enjoy Power Rangers as a kid. I think Halo belongs in the same category.

After watching Vinny and Dave beat the last level of Halo on Legendary, i think the original Halo is still a masterpiece of design and to some extent of art, particularly with the music and the sweeping visuals.

I loved all of Double Fine's minigames, but I really want to see another AAA title from them. Just... I don't know if they have the type of organisational structure that can support it. Not to mention the cash.

Double Fine, team up with Valve for a game. DO EET

My criticism of Halo is regarding story, tone and exposition. In which case it sucks. Gameplay is fine. Except halo 3 which is rubbish.

Wait, so that was good? I only heard badness.
It was OK. It was better than Twilight Princess.

And by better, I mean worse.

And by worse, I mean not as compelling or as interesting in any of the aspects of Zelda-likes that I enjoy as either Twilight Princess or Okami.

Basically, it had more varied combat than Zelda and an in-game economy where money was actually useful. Thing is, everything else wasn't as good. The overworld wasn't very coherent, its dungeons were mediocre, puzzles weren't very challenging or varied, controls were messy, there weren't many NPCs and those that were there weren't very interesting, there were very few sidequests and the whole thing is very directed.

I mean, if you like a story that takes itself seriously and the main thing you want out of a Zelda game is combat, I could see how you might like it better. But to say that it's better than Zelda by any other metric is ludicrous.

Yeah, I want to see them do another big game again. I can see Double Fine coming up with the idea of another epic(ish) masterpiece, but sadly not the manpower or technology to execute the way it should be.

Having said that, I will be buying their Sesame Street game.

Indeed, halo 3 was complete rubbish. The original halo ce was brilliant...then they started the milking.

I enjoyed Darksiders more than OoT or Windwaker. Bam. Shots fired, etc.

It's OK to have deviant tastes you know. You just don't enjoy Zelda games for their unique gameplay.
That is pretty much the crux of my mindset, maybe my attention span has dropped too much but once a game gives me a feeling of deja vu I think I lose interest. Same with the Mario games, they changed it up a bit but I just wasn't drawn in like the SNES ones. Maybe I am a new IP man, needing to change things up all the time. Maybe I would have been uninterested in a sequel to Max Payne 2 too. Does make a lot of sense in regards to the games I have picked up and played for 2 hours before shelving. If I had more spare time I would run a little exercise on it, like how I still really enjoyed Bioshock 2 but that may have been because it changed stuff like the dual wielding and the hacking and the crafting.

Yea same. Darksiders is probably one of my top fun games of this year. I've never been a huge zelda fan but i've appreciated what it does and means for the industry.

Same here, I really don't get the fuss about zelda. Twilight princess was actually nice, but couldn't hold my attention.

I don't know. Darksiders seemed okay, but suffered for me because I played it right after getting back into Bayonetta and I was just frustrating that it wasn't that kind of game.

Zelda's appeal is because they're all masterfully bloody designed. OoT still holds up today, after all.

Same. Loved Darksiders. Although didn't it come out last year?

A sequel is milking now? Jesus. I like 3, more than 2 with it's bullshit changes to gun balances.
And I have a thing for big space opera stories, so I didn't mind Halo's story. I mean its not exactly The Old Man and the Sea but it's a rare game story that is much above B Grade movie script.

Just threw in Space Marine after playing hours of Gears. I was expecting it just to make me want to go back and play a proper third person shooter, but it's so different. So much more melee oriented, and I feel like such a fucking beast playing Space Marine. Any challenge comes through the sheer numbers that is thrown at you rather than the enemies themselves.

That said, Gears is a better game. But the hour or two of Space Marine I've played were great.

I found Twilight Princess kinda boring, Phantom Hourglass bad and enjoyed Spirit Tracks but it wasn't anything special. I love the series as a whole but I do dislike certain entries. I also feel it's been going downhill lately and the formula needs a change, because I am definitely feeling the Zelda fatigue. Hopefully Skyward Sword is a top tier quality Zelda like the pre-Twilight Princess games.

Currently traipsing through the jungles and Delta heads of Borneo. Flew a chartered flight with a British professor and got kindly asked by the nation of Brunei to GTFO and return to Malaysian airspace. Rocked up at the immaculate Mariott in Miri covered head to toe in crap and this is my first time near an Internet in about a week.

Taking malaria pills daily. If I find a grenade, I'm totally gonna roll that motherfucker down a hill.

have got through around 25-30 hours into the game twice....but real life keeps on catching up.

By the time I get back to it, its hard to get back into the groove again. Same deal with final fantasy 12.

I think I could be classed as mainly a handheld gamer nowadays.

skyward sword looks fucking awesome though

My poor monkey heart cannot take the scares that I laughed off as a child.

Haven't been too impressed with the couple of promos I've seen (though "It didn't feel pink!" after being hit with a pink taser was kinda amusing), but there's a couple of reasons I'd consider giving it a look.

Edit: Wait, New Girl is the Zooey one right? I was thinking of the Dennings one. Derp.
