Time to give the guns back to the Aussies.

How about HELL NO. Have you heard of the Cronulla riots? I wouldn't be surprised if there is a repeat of that if any terror attacks aren't prevented, sadly. (Though I hope we've learnt from that.) Add in bogans with guns and there's a catastrophe just waiting to happen.

Also, how would guns help protect you from getting stabbed on the street? Even if you carry it on you, you aren't going to be able to react in time. It's not like they're going to brandish their blade from across the street and charge at you.

Also, what's one of the most popular weapons terrorists use? Bombs, which guns are completely useless against.

Honestly, the gun control measures was the best thing that Howard government did for Australia, and if you're Aussie yourself you must be blind not to see how much safer we are now because of that, and how much our society has benefited. If you're not Aussie, you should actually look up the history and gun crime of Australia.

I don't believe a damn thing the Australian media or government say anymore. They're barely better than the "terrorists".

Ah yes, here come the far left wingers to tell us yet again how shit/racist/backwards/lapdogs Australia is and everything is Murdoch's and the Governments fault.

Was a huge shock, you see it on tv and think it's strange, it's even more bizarre to see this happen in your own backyard (figure of speech, saying my own country = own back yard).

So in response to this the government started sending troops over, which has caused ISIS to turn their gaze to the south

"If you can kill a disbelieving American or European – especially the spiteful and filthy French – or an Australian, or a Canadian, or any other disbeliever from the disbelievers waging war, including the citizens of the countries that entered into a coalition against the Islamic State, then rely upon Allah, and kill him in any manner or way however it may be," the statement says.

In response the PM has this to say

"Regrettably, for some time to come, Australians will have to endure more security than we're used to, and more inconvenience than we would like," he said.

"Regrettably for some time to come, the delicate balance between freedom and security may have to shift.

"There may be more restrictions on some, so that there can be more protection for others."

"Creating new offences that are harder to beat on a technicality may be a small price to pay for saving lives and for maintaining the social fabric of an open, free and multicultural nation."

Westerners are so fucking easy to play it's not funny

I did see a news story about Abott's "balance between freedom and security" piece.

Alarming on the face of it but it really depends how that shift in the balance manifests itself. Personally I think it's entirely possible to have both robust security and social freedom at the same time.

What's the deal here? Why are the French singled out?

Since Hollande came to power, the French have gone into Mali, CAR and are now the first western power beside the US to perform air strikes in Iraq.

Oddly interventionalist for a Socialist government.

If I recall the French government was all for striking Syria after the "red line" was crossed too.
