Also, how would guns help protect you from getting stabbed on the street? Even if you carry it on you, you aren't going to be able to react in time. It's not like they're going to brandish their blade from across the street and charge at you.

Also, what's one of the most popular weapons terrorists use? Bombs, which guns are completely useless against.

Honestly, the gun control measures was the best thing that Howard government did for Australia, and if you're Aussie yourself you must be blind not to see how much safer we are now because of that, and how much our society has benefited. I did see a news story about Abott's "balance between freedom and security" piece.

Alarming on the face of it but it really depends how that shift in the balance manifests itself. Personally I think it's entirely possible to have both robust security and social freedom at the same time.
