Yes, it does explain why the door sills are crazy high. The central part of the RCF's chassis is the IS Convertible section, which is precisely where you would sit, the sill go, etc.
Blech.
On the bright side, that at least takes off the RC-F from my list of cars to own lol.
I fnckin' hate those high-ass door sills. It's seriously the most egregious thing you can ever do in a car.
I laugh at the power they're putting in the new Miata. You can only cash in on that "pure driving experience" so much. It's completely outclassed, and who cares if you can "floor it all the time and not get pulled over" (dumbest cop out ever). They need a Mazdaspeed edition. Then again, they probably don't because they'll sell the new Miata like mad to retired people and window-shoppers (styling/convertible/cheap).
Lol I actually agree with you. I want more power in my Miata and I definitely want more power in the new one.
For my NC Miata specifically, I personally don't need a big ass turbo that'll give it north of 250hp and thereby reduce it's ability as a daily driver. I just need 30 more WHP and 30 more WTQ, which amazingly enough is quite possible with an intake, header, midpipe, exhaust and a tune... I've already got the best intake and exhaust you can get, so I'm almost there. Hopefully I'll be able to get this done by the end of the year lol.
For the new ND Miata... like I said, I agree with you but at the same time, I think you're missing the point of it by ignoring their "pure driving experience" BS. The Miata has always been about those 3 words... it's those 3 words that kept it alive for the last 25 years and those 3 words are gonna keep it existing for a looooooooong time. We'll have to see once it's finally out how that 2.0L engine stacks up to the outgoing model.
I've driven an FR-S and I think it's a fantastic car in it's own right, but it cannot compare to the feeling I had when I sat behind the wheel of a Miata and took it out for a spin. It was the first time I've felt an connection with man and machine and the FR-S just doesn't have that imo... like there's no soul to it, maybe too mechanical for a car, or dare I say average?
Anyway, enough philosophical talk lol, but like I said, I'm hoping the BRZ STi is real. Not only to encourage Mazda to build a Mazdapseed version, but that way I can save my money for mods and put that into a ND MSM or BRZ STi instead. That'd be about $2-3k's worth of cash and that's more than enough for a downpayment on a new car lol.
Edit: Here's a
2nd review of a Miata from Regular Car Reviews and he's able to explain the Miata's almost legendary status better than anybody can tbh. The only thing I disagree with is the Miata being a Kanye of cars, but that's more of a joke than the truth so I'll give it a pass haha.
