Reviews of the Jaguar F-Pace are starting to come out. Mostly good. Looks, sound, engine, brakes, transmission work great. Suspension is a little rolly, and the infotainment is having a lot of issues. It can't compete with the Macan, but is better than an Evoque and should provide stiff competition for the X5.

Here's Carfection's video review of the 380HP S in Montenegró.

Man the Civic has been up scaled by so much in the last 15 years. Great color
My friend bought one in red and dang it looks good in that too haha. Didn't expect it to, but good shape Honda

Well, this is going to be the third recall for my WRX (2015). Something, something, turbo inlet poor metal breaking and getting sucked in causing stall and potential accidents.

If the Focus RS turns out good (from every other outlet I don't listen to usually it's great), I guess I'll be going that route after all. If I can find one without a ridiculous 5-10k mark up... scummy dealers.
One thing I've learned is to never boy a new car that just came out. All the 2014 CLA owners are complaining about the most random issues whereas the 2015 have literally 0 issues on the forum.
Also learned it firsthand when my father bought a 2003 Mazda 6. Issues right and left for the first month - it got fixed thankfully but after 60k miles the car just got series of issues.
So then my father bought the first year VW CC...and damn he filed a lawsuit for that car...lets just leave it at that.

So remember that Nurburgring video I posted about the instructor in an M3 chasing a GT4 and Aventador SV?

Well, I just found that same race from the GT4's perspective. Much higher 1440P quality to boot. You can see he is running the suspension dampers in "Normal" mode, ESP systems on, and has the A/C on full blast just chilling with his shades on like he's out on a Sunday drive. Crazy that he can keep up with the Lambo with almost half the horsepower.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYXllBrqJXw

That Lambo was showing the GT4 "NOPE!" everytime when accelerating away.

Congrats! Once Honda releases the Si and R versions, they will make for some nice competition in that segment.

Getting a Focus RS early seems to be a dicey proposition when you consider the markups and the fact that it is a brand new model with new tech like the AWD system. Hopefully it doesn't suffer the same fate like when the current gen Escape was released (multiple recalls in the first few months on market).

Yeah, the first model year always has issues. Even if it's not mechanical issues, the manufacturer often leaves out things that are common on other cars.

Had a short stint with my brother's Mazdaspeed3 just now.

It's fun to drive but torque steer and understeer is a bitch lol.

Though most likely, I just need to learn how to drive fast in a FWD car. Muscle memory forces my right foot to get on the gas before the apex and doing that in a turbo FWD, where boost kicks in around 3-4K rpms... that is a huge no no haha.

Well, this is going to be the third recall for my WRX (2015). Something, something, turbo inlet poor metal breaking and getting sucked in causing stall and potential accidents.

Earlier this week it was the FoST now it's the WRX... I feel like the Miata gods are trying to sabotage my plan of getting a new car.

Honestly, that era of Honda was probably their golden years. It was a time when the NSX was already considered to be a legend and the Si/Type-R's being the ultimate versions of their cars.

That Honda still had motorsport in their blood and they're just now IV'ing that blood back in to their system with the Civic Type-R.

Honestly with my luck, I would never go for a first year car model.
Not trying to push you away from the Focus RS, but if I was you - nah lol. It's the worst though cause you really do want the car but not the first year haha. But the headache you could save from waiting could be really worth it. Sometimes it's mechanical issues, other times it's electronics. The VW CC issue we had was structural. And damn it sucked cause the car spent the first 2 months in and out of the dealership. Would go in and see the car was completely opened up, with the doors removed and all the roofing taken out so some specialist from the North American north east region could see what's wrong with it.

Long story short, the car must have had some kind of hole/leak in the cabin. Driving over 40 mph would make some loud whistle sound and you could feel the pressure build up cause of it. Honestly the issue with the car was half the trouble. The first lawyer we talked with went forward and submitted a claim even before my father gave the green light and requested for a mere $5k. Rather my father wanted a replacement. In the end, we got $10k after a few months after getting a second lawyer and threatening a lawsuit on the first lawyer lol. My father ended up trading in the car a month later

;D. It's a lot more satisfying when you do it yourself

unlike the internet, not everyone drive like Chris Harris in real life.

The 370Z wouldn't let you money shift. It locks you out of gears that are deemed too low or within 300RPM of redline. If you push through the lock (and this requires a lot of effort) I believe you may grind. Basically, you'd have to be a major moron to do it in the car. :p

That's tight!

Also the thing with honda's is that they are pretty much bullet proof!

The NSX had the snap right failure on the earlier models but once you get that fix it's pretty much a sports car that can last you 300k miles with no major issues. Then you can spend 15k and have science of speed rebuild your engine to 3.5L. now you have can have up to 450hp NA NSX.

The Integra typeR (or civic) have a higher chance of getting stolen and than breaking down. Most reliable car ever.

same with s2000s, can go 200k mile even beating on it everyday. Also, probably has the smoothest shifting feel than any car. But I heard the GT4 beats it now.

Yep. I still prefer the S2K to new stuff like the ND Miata and BRZ.

I believe everyone does during daytime runs at the Ring for improved visibility.

This is true. S2000 was the benchmark transmission for me until the GT4 came along.

So it's been raining here in NorCal.

My Si was out of commission because the battery died and I didn't have time to go buy one and put it in yet, so I've just been driving the NB. And holy shit. Managed to lose the tail end making a slow ass turn...in 3rd gear...where there was no torque. Easy to control but it surprised me lol.

Brb, gonna go find an empty parking lot

I've been watching the Masters all day and is Mercedes really considering the S-class 'vert as their current best convertible?

The ad basically goes through the entire history of the SL class and then they say the S-class is the next best 'vert in their lineup. Wtf.

I feel like they're shitting on the history of the SL class with the ad.

Honestly with my luck, I would never go for a first year car model.

Lol. My NC Miata is a 3rd Gen Limited Edition. The 3rd gen LE is one of the first NC Miatas that came out of the factory in Hiroshima back in 2005. Specifically mine is the 95th copy out of the 3500 produced for the entire world. If you count the press cars and other pre-production cars, mine is one of the first 150 NC Miatas produced for the world.

The biggest problem my car has got is the starter harness crapping out back in July of last year, literally a month before it would hit it's 10th birthday. Beyond that, it's been pretty reliable.

That said, I've been hearing of stories from other 06 Miata owners where the engine magically loses oil and it ends up causing a rod bearing failure so I've been diligently checking my oil every 2 weeks.

The Integra typeR (or civic) have a higher chance of getting stolen and than breaking down. Most reliable car ever.

Yup. If it wasn't for this reason, I'd be picking up an Integra/RSX if I could find one.

I've seen a lot of used TSX's and ILX's with a stick though, I wonder if they're worth it.

Heh, this is the standard welcome from your Miata.

I honestly don't even tackle corners hard especially if the ground is wet. I've experienced it far too many times back when I got my Miata initially lol.

It's so depressing where Mazda is at now, with no Speed3/6 and no rotary sports car. I liked the Speed3 and loved the RX-8, and I wish they'd come out with something for me to waste my money on. The WRX is nice, and it offers a ton for the price, including no torque steer, but it's not as fun as a light, RWD sports car IMO.

Eh, I don't necessarily agree. I want a profitable Mazda that is healthy and that will be around for a long time making great cars. If they have to be a little bit boring for a few years (but only a little bit, at least they still have the Miata) to get healthy then so be it. I look forward to the return of the Speed 3 and whatever else (new RX8?) they might cook up once they are really healthy. They are certainly headed in the right direction, that's for sure.

Got my new Civic Touring yesterday

Nice! The new Civic's are very impressive for the money.

It's a strange thing how we desire "newness"

"Come buy the completely redesigned, not really real world or long term tested, engineering and cost cutting nightmare today!"

I know right? If you can help it, always buy a year or two after a car is new or redesigned. You can save a lot of headaches that way.

Man, nearly two decades later, it still seems like an S2000 fills a niche lots of other roadsters don't. I thought of it after reading that Mazda news. Sad.

Truth. Although I can't hate the new Miata. It's no track monster or high revving screamer but it does what it was built to do in excellent fashion.

The ILX is basically just a Civic Si without a LSD. Unless you want the badge and the slightly better interior, go for a ninth gen Si if you can bear the looks lol. The K24 engine in the ninth gen Sis, ILX, and TSX is really good, bulletproof, and proven, hence why a lot of people even swap them into Miatas. More torque than the K20s. They just don't rev to 8200! But it's not a bad trade-off for the more usable powerband.

Also, what the fudge at the oil filter on the Miata. That thing was a real pain to get out lol. Had to go through the wheel well.

Pick up a 2017 RS if you want to go that route. There are always updates and fixes for the next model year and you will also give time to see what the car can do if you plan on modifying it.

With the ST, swapping the turbo wasn't a fun task and doing so was necessary to make power. The RS will obviously make more, I'm thinking 350whp with tune alone based on some insider info I have, but be prepared for a turbo swap for more.

Running E85 will be bothersome too as you'll need an auxiliary fuel injection system since there are no aftermarket DI pumps.

Today is the Luftgekuhlt 2016 event in downtown LA. It's an annual car show for air cooled Porsches.

It started before 9AM. There were hundreds of amazing cars. From "common" stuff to super rare historic race cars, etc etc.

I left after 30 minutes because I came to a really harsh realization:

I hate cars shows. They're boring. Hundreds of sports/track/race cars just sitting in a parking lot and people milling around in small groups. I just have no appreciation for it. I went to the Monterey Historics and the Porsche Rennsport Reunion a few years ago and not only were there cars being shown, they were also being driven on the track. To hear and see them being driven "in anger" is a completely different experience. I could watch cars lapping a track like Laguna Seca all day long. But the parking lot thing? I think I'm over it. I can handle it for about 30 minutes but then I'm done. It's just... posing. Lots of posing.

I feel you on this one!

The worst is the group meet for certain cars. There are a few down to earth people but it's it's mostly circle jerk of "our______ is better than any car"

Then the import car show! Douchebag galore!

and so on...

Classic American car shows are the worst. Oh cool, another dozen boring ass family sedans that are only remotely interesting because of nostalgia.

Car shows are only interesting when each car on display is showing something new or different.

Then the import car show! Douchebag galore!

I briefly dated a Cupcake Meet(basically the Texas version of Hot Import Nights) model a few years ago. She was super nice and somebody who was genuinely interested in cars, but the stories she's told me of being on the floor with the douches was honestly a little blood boiling.

According to her, she'd rather be at a nerd convention than a car show coz at least the nerds are actually afraid of women, whereas it's the total opposite on import shows.

You back in Texas?

I noticed those two familiar stickers on the windshield first instead of the El Camino haha.

About that show, I'll say there were a lot of cool cars... I mean, there were some legit legendary race cars, etc. And the crowd seemed cool, too. Kind of stereotypical LA people but I guess I'm a stereotypical LA person, too. But... in the end it was still just standing around in a parking lot. I wanted to see those things run. Not necessarily 10/10ths, just with some life. Hopefully next year they'll consider holding the event at a track.

There was a real 959 there, only the second or third one I've ever seen. A 908, too. Probably some even rarer stuff that I was too ignorant to recognize.

The coolest recent car I saw was a 991 GT3 that had been de-winged and fully dropped to race ride height. It was a good preview of what the 911R looks like in person... super hot.

LOL I recognize some of the cars in Evo X's pics from today's show.

Too many to quote so in summary;

Yeah, first year model headaches, been there twice, sucks. But another reason I'd buy it now, "first year model" hotness. From all the "why is there a big wing and brakes on that focus" to all the people revving at me at stop lights, I miss those days from my Evo.

I had a dealer(s) lined up, but both were small, and something happened with dealers getting hosed by orders due to delayed production, and they'd get it next year at soonest now...

Finally, I wouldn't push it's power. It's probably near it's limit now, but should handle a little bump in power from a tune, which is cool. From the looks, I may just have to do a tune and throw on a good axle-back for more sound and be happy.

Supposedly the RS handles well, moves nicely, and is just flat out fun. The fun part is what caught my interest. I'll still get an Atom one day though lol.

Hopefully I can find one with the standard wheels (cup tires on a DD, no thx lol), no sunroof, and RS2 interior package in blue or white.

AutoGAF Opinion Time!

Getting my car some paint protection this week.

First decision is whether to go with a clear XPEL Ultimate film with a glossy finish.

OR

The new XPEL Stealth which gives the car a matte look.

Benefit of the glossy is that I have the option to only wrap the car partially in the likely rock chip/debris areas, such as entire front end, mirrors, scoops, side skirts and rear bumper. Estimate of this is ~$2,500.

If I go with Stealth, I will have to wrap the whole car as to not create discrepancy in the paint. Estimated cost $5,000.

Once that is taken car of, next step is choosing to leave the look stock or add a livery.

Two ideas I am throwing around.

GT3 RS 4.0 Scheme - 3.8 written on the side instead of 4.0. Not sure on the Porsche banner on the wing.

If you're doing liveries what about Rothman's, Porsche Salzburg, Marlboro, Momo or Sunco? They're just as historic as Martini livery is.

Be a hero and go for another classic livery, the 'pink pig'.

Joke aside, IF you want to go for a classic livery, 'Martini' or 'Rothman's' are always good choices for a white(?) car.

2016 Q50 Configurator is live! Doesn't include the standard 300HP car just yet.

http://www.infinitiusa.com/sedan/q50?dcp=ppi.63023880.&dcc=0.240189298

Additional config site live on CarsDirect. 300HP Twin Turbo AWD car is 42K starting. So I guess that means the RWD model will be $40K flat. One thing that's royally pissing me off is that if you want black leather (or black leather + wood) you are forced into a bunch of options, almost making it a loaded car. It seems like Infiniti doesn't want to build low-end Red Sport models.

http://www.carsdirect.com/build/sty...ti&modelName=q50&zipcode=34786&trimGroup=true

Invoice difference looks like it's $2300 cheaper than MSRP.

Summary: Identical acceleration, braking, and skidpad to the M4. Actually faster on the track. More fun, more steering feel, and sounds better. Also significantly cheaper, but it is easy to spot all the cost cutting done in order to achieve that.

Anyone here getting one?

We spent about 3 hours there.

We did the vault, but it being worth it is entirely up to how much you enjoy old classic cars. It is a guided tour and no pictures are allowed. It's very long though and our guide kept talking ad nauseam about the history of every single vehicle. My friends and I dipped about 60% of the way through as it started to get boring.

I've thought about it. Currently looking for a Challenger Scat Pack to purchase around $35-40K. I would never buy a BMW - too many horror stories on maintenance and costly repairs; but I'd lease one. Wonder if it'll even be possible to lease one for ~$600/month or so...

No buy.

Yeah, no manual this time is a bummer. Although to be completely fair the manual in the G37 / Q series up to this point has not been a great unit in that it lacks refinement. It was always a bit of a shock to get in to a 40 - 50 grand car and use that manual transmission. It physically worked fine but it felt very rough and there was tons of vibration through the stick.

They would have needed to go back to the drawing board completely with it (and I hope they do for the new Z cars) and I guess they chose not to do so since it would likely only be picked by such a small percentage of new buyers.

When it hits the used market in a couple years. The M2 won't be as limited as the 1M so it should depreciate more rapidly.
