Thanks for the congrats, guys.

To those who have qualms with the F430's aesthetics, I hear you. I think the issue is that, as car guys on the internet, we've "seen" everything under the sun and have gotten used to the look of these cars. On the street, my experience has been that the general populace reacts extremely positively to the way the F430 looks. The response has actually been quite surprising - the car attracts far more attention that I could have ever anticipated.

Car history - Civic, Prelude, E46 M3, E92 M3, F430.

Awesome car! great choice, the F430 is actually one of my favorite recent designs from Ferrari.

My car history is not nearly as interesting, lol - Corolla, Acura RSX, 997 Turbo.

That's the thing about exotics. It doesn't matter if it's an older exotic, that shit still turns heads.

Although buying a red Ferrari -- I don't know what you expected lol

Ha, you're right. Sure, I expected attention, but I didn't expect to be able to slow down an entire 4-5 lane freeway-full of cars to just under the speed limit for miles at a time (my cruising speed in this car). I've slowed down to as low as 30mph on the highway with no one wanting to pass.

That's quite the hockey stick moment in your ownership. Congratulations.

I almost bought a white 997.1TT last month; I hesitated and it was gone. Such a great car.

Really?

I'll gladly trade my car for a ferrari...

I honestly wouldnt. Too much upkeep. I could see a cheap ELise or a Noble maybe.

The number #1 rule of car-guy-dom is not to diss someone's new car. The 430 was a pretty car at the time but it's in that awkward period for cars from 5-15 years old where it's just old enough to look dated but not old enough to look striking and different. Give it 10 years and the 360 and 430 will look pretty rad.

Personally I'm pumped that someone picked one up, congrats mashout. :D

I aint dissing the capability of it. I respect how Ferrari designs cars. They know their shit. But stylistically they lost the plot. It happens to the best of companies. Im not gonna pretend I love how a car looks just because it has a certain badge on it. I think its great the guy is enjoying the car and Im happy for him.

My car is as fast as a 430 but I would rather be in a Ferrari anyday...I drove a convertable 430 and it just felt special.

Just saw this on Jalopnik:

2015 Z06 LT4: 650 hp, 650 ft-lbs

Note the torque curve, and its 500 fucking foot-pounds at 1,500 rpm. Bathing the blue-bloods in their own tears is how this Vette will make 'em wet.

Still, putting the power down out of corners will be much better at 3500 rpm and above.

Right as I'm fully comfortable with my c6z, it'll be a perfect time to move to the c7z.

I hope they keep the weight in check. I rather give up HP honestly.

Not an obvious concern for everyone but for me, heat soak on a hot say after extended track sessions might mean weird power behavior.

Yooo is this real life ;_;

Honestly I'm worried the type of people that buy this car (older) that someone is going to die

There are enough nannies on there to keep people alive. Not really a concern these days.

The real worry is how Michelin sport cups respond in cold temp. Ask me how I know....

...and that, kids, was the first time I sucked a dick for crack
Right - I had the V8 M3 for approximately six months. Excellent car - there's nothing at that price range that I'd rather have.

Ahh. When I was trading in my 370Z, it was E92 M3 Coupe, C63 AMG Coupe, 550i M-Sport or M56S RWD. I had no preference as to which I wanted, they were all high on my list respectively. But the 550i was quickly tossed aside after I test drove a few, what a pitiful excuse for a BMW 5-series. The E39 would be figuratively rolling in its grave, if it could. 550i base or M-Sport is just a sloppy all around car. Powerful and torquey, with a terrible open-diff that'll sway you a little sideways even on a highway at cruising speed. Brakes were adequate, but it floats like a boat...it's clear that this running on the same platform as the 7-series. The 5-series as we knew it is dead.

I liked the M3 a lot (but I'm biased because I had a 335i Coupe in NYC), but the fuel efficiency was awful - I like to take trips down to Palm Beach or Miami and prefer to do it on one tank, including the way home. And the lack of low-end kept bugging me, but dammit...they're just so fucking gorgeous, especially with the LCI tails. Still, I couldn't even find the right one with the right options:

DCT, Navi, Competition (which was the least important). I found a lot of DCTs with no navi. Or a lot of 6MTs with no navi. The ones with navi had awful interior colors, or were 2013 models that were spec'd out to be $75K. Some were too high mileage and too old. Some had poor paint. Etc. It wasn't worth it, imo. So I ruled out my M3 search.

The C63 AMGs were easier to find the way I wanted, but the Benz dealers were kidding themselves with how much they wanted for these cars used, even though they were low-mileage cars. Loved the car, the power, the handling (especially the coupes), even if the interior wasn't as grand as I liked for it to have been, it was still pleasant. Plus dat noise. Again, too costly, didn't feel like spending too much coin on a car that may potentially not be that reliable.

I got to the M56S last because I couldn't find any. I only got to test drive one M56S, because the rarity was well beyond what I expected. There were a few AWD models scattered about within Florida and Georgie, albeit still rare, but the RWD S-model is the absolute go to car because it comes with a different look, boasts a bunch of mechanical, suspension, and aesthetic enhancements. The one I test drove I didn't even bother with because it was crashed from the rear previously, so I just used it to gauge performance and I was in love. And the interior was just wonderful.

It took me a while, but finally a unicorn M56S Black/Black came up, 2013 with 5K miles on it at a Maserati-Jaguar dealer in Sarasota. It was a unicorn because this one wasn't a regular Sport, it was the extremely rare Sport-Aero (has a different front fascia). I called them up, and over the week we worked out all of the details. They gave me the trade-in I wanted on my 370Z, and took off 4-grand from the M56S. They assured me the car was 100% clean, so I bought it sight unseen (although they did send me 60 hi-res 1080p pics of it from every angle). They delivered the car to my house, and drove my Z away once I approved of their car.

I'm superbly happy with the M, the 5.6L V8 is an animal stock...and I just started tuning it with UpRev and the expectancy is another 30WHP, 35WTQ and a lot more response (nearly 500HP crank). The car is a fucking animal basically...should be running mid-12s after the tune on crappy OEM Bridgestones.

It's a complete piece of shit. Don't even bother. A V6 making 170 hp? That horrible 90's Hyundai design logic...

Just get a manual transmission Accord V6 if possible.

FWD, I love your unfiltered posts.

Also holy balls at that Hellcat. Ultimate muscle right there.

Thanks! And yes, the Hellcat is something glorious. My favorite Dodge in a long, long time. I'd love to own one, it's so batshit crazy. Fucking ram air intake in the headlight? That is some badass shit.

what??

I hate hyundai as much as the next dude but..

That was from a mid 90's Accord, dude. The J series (J30) and up started here:

3.0L J30A1 V6 200 hp (150 kW)

And just got better and better. Those were introduced in MY2000 for the Accord. I just can't see any reason to get the Tiburon when you can get a much better Honda/Toyota with a better V6.

4 cyl. 140-hp, 2.0-liter I-4

no V6 version.

Oh you're right, it's the 02+ I'm thinking of that has the V6.

Point still stands: They are awful cars. I really, highly suggest something like an NB Miata, Accord coupe, Acura CL (dat auto tranny doe), Camry V6 over a Tiburon.

Hell, I'd even suggest a V6/V8 Mustang from that era over the Tib. :( (Disclaimer: I would totally daily drive an '03-'04 "Terminator" Cobra. One of the most bad-ass cars ever.)

I don't have a clue what I would want after my 330. Took it to have the brake/clutch fluid changed and had an inspection done and was told again just how solid my car was compared to other E46s that he had worked on. Could have done the job myself but wanted to try out a guy that was recommended by some other BMW owners in town for potential future use.

When I get my student loans paid off in the next year (maybe less!) I'll focus on getting a house and may end up getting a e30 or S2000 or ???? for a toy.

Thanks for the info and I get your point. Before I go after a car, I do like to educate myself with all the data that I can. I am not really looking for power and I just fell in love with one that I saw the other day. So I am so curious and I want to drive one. I did also look for issues for both years 2000/2001. Nothing major for those models.

I don't know what it is but I like the silly look of the car lol

Yea I agree Toyota V6's were the same way.

its just your intial comment didnt make sense, you were talking as if other mid 90's V6s were higher powered.

but yes in 02 that isnt very good

Ram air intake on a supercharged engine.

xYdJGoL.gif

It's even more important that a supercharged motor have something like a ram air intake. You want the coldest air possible AND at a high velocity to feed it. You don't want your intake sucking air from the engine bay because superchargers are very prone to heatsoak. It's the way to go.

The ram air intake + supercharger on an already badass motor really cements how much of a monster this is. With a good E85 tune it'll be an 800+ bhp car easily.

I'll play:

1989 Dodge Colt E - bought her for $800 and drove this bitch into the ground after three years. Great little car.
1987 Volkswagen Jetta GL - Another $800 shitbox. She ate all the synchros in the transmission after three years of hard service. Lots of stories in this car.
2000 Ford Focus ZX3 - I still see this car around town and miss her terribly
2007 Scion tC - I see this car around town too. Can't fault it, but we never connected
2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track - Current car. I love her because she feed my hooning needs and is a great long-distance runner to boot, but I still feel a bit disconnected. Not sure why.

Have yet to buy an automatic, and I hope that I'll have the option to buy three-pedal rides until we're all forced into Google cars by the insurance lobby.

Mine is a bit sparse. Lived in Bombay 7 years, no point in owning a car there.

1998 Ford Escort ZX2 - Bought it for $600 in 2010 (@65,000 miles). Rather liked the car. Took some abuse but lasted me about 3.5 years and I put maybe $1000 into maintenance. Manual transmission, gave me ~20+ mpg.

2013 Subaru BRZ - Have had it for about 9 months and loving it. Yes, torque is a bit anemic but the rest has been brilliant. Very comfortable even on long distance trips.

Same here, haven't had a car in 6 years now since I live in Stockholm where it's neither practical nor economically defensible. Still I miss the freedom that comes with a car; in some ways I was more of a grown-up when I was 19, having my own car and driving to work every day, than I am now.

My car history is thus very short:

1998 Peugeot 406. Served me really well, and I was able to sell it for more money than I bought it for, after using it for almost three years! And it's to this day the only car I've ever seen that needed a PIN code to start. Was that a specific 90's Peugeot/quirky French thing, or are there other cars with "start codes"?

I'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to price haggling and I'm looking at this Challenger and I'm not sure what my initial offer should be. The price on it I think is fair but it's a brand new car and from what I read you should never pay whatever they are asking for.

Here's a link to the car: http://www.romocoinc.com/new/Dodge/...0a00020ad8d5fc089e8115.htm?mycarsr=recentCars

I was looking at used ones at first but the price difference between new and use isn't that much so I might as well go with a new car.

Edit: Sorry I posted in the wrong thread before but I think whatsinaname(Thank you for the advice) gave me what I needed and confirmed what I thought. This is prolly the best deal I'm going to get.

I disagree, but to each his own.

The cold air is good, but trying to solve that problem with a ram air intake is just lazy engineering. If they were running into heatsoak issues they could have utilized an intercooler setup in the valley. I doubt anyone would complain about a bulge in the hood from raising the supercharger up a few inches.

Also, you could get the cold air by simply pulling it from the grill. The "ram air" serves almost no purpose on a force induction engine.

This is purely for the "wow, so manly" factor.

Lol joining in the car history fun but mine's not as special.

05 Ford Focus - my first car that my parents handed down when I got my license
09 Toyota Corolla - another hand me down from my parents during my senior year of HS
06 Mazda Miata - not a hand me down this time, but I'm paying for it under my dad's excellent credit haha. I got it in 2012 and this car singlehandedly re-ignited my love for cars so I'm gonna keep driving it until the end of time.

My next? If the mythical next generation RX-7 doesn't come out, I'll probably go American and grab a Dodge Challenger R/T and turn my Miata into a track rat.

As a UK lurker, I'll jump at the car history:

1989 Fiat Tipo. First car, and it was free. Cam belt destruction.

1999 Fiat Punto. I didn't lean with the Italian cars... Stereo was worth just as much as the part-ex value by the end... Part-ex'd against:

2003 Skoda Octavia vRS. Stil the best all-round car I've owned. Mildly tuned to 230bhp, yet still got 40mpg and plenty of room with great ride comfort. But the thirst took over...

2000 Mitsubishi Evo 6. Low mileage, I tuned it to 350bhp and ran it day-to-day for 18 months. Probably not as much "real" fun as the vRS, as everyone knows what an Evo can do... Once I'd moved house, traded in for:

2004 Mazda RX8. I rally liked this - for about 6 months. In hindsight, Gould have gone back to a vRS or similar. Not the best long term purchase. Destroyed the exhaust system, but still managed to get rid if it.

2005 Renault Clio. Acquired from my other half as a runabout. French piece of shit. Part-ex'd against:

2007 Mitsubishi Lancer Estate Sport. It's a practical Evo, without the turbo, 4wd, electronics - nor the thirst, running costs or flashiness. And it was damn cheap too.
