Automotive Discussion Thread | OT2 | Zero to pointless fighting faster than a GT86

Bit late on that really like decades late.

I'm referring to this one

Not this one

the vette hasn't done a very good job of it either

I have two of those back home, ST185 GT4 and an ST185 GT4 RC, and prior to owning those I had an ST183 GT (non turbo)
This is the RC:

Nice cars, for their age, but they have the turning circle an oil tanker, and it's painfully hard to find an unmollested example these days :(

Awesome! Yep, I really like that body style. How are they to drive? My only real point of comparison is the 2nd gen Eclipse GS that I owned right out of college. I believe it was a 98 model but that car was a lot of fun for a front wheel drive coupe.

Mercedes has revealed their AMG GT Roadster, including a wide body "C" variant.

550HP. 0-60 in 3.7 and top speed of 188mph.

Thoughts?

Seems like a whole lot of "go fast" goodies for a Roadster. Usually those are a little bit more laid back than the coupe variants. It looks the business, that's for sure.

I think if I was personally shopping for an AMG GT I would just get the coupe and leave my drop-top to something like a Boxster Spyder or manual F-Type.

Damn I'm biased anyways, but that's beautiful. If Porsche's 911 wasn't a thing - I would go for this if I was on the market. Heck, I would still might go for this lol.

Wish they do it in the AMG GT R green tho lol. Just cause of how bold it is

And the evo buyer flaked out.

God I never should have bought this car.
I have never had so much trouble selling a car.

What kind of Evo was it? I'm surprised you're having trouble selling that. Were you looking to get a RS that you were asking about it instead?

Its an Evo 9.
I was interested in the RS but it seems like all the dealers around me are charging like 20k over sticker.

Its brutal finding one, try to find a dealer that will order one without mark up and get it in writing.

Or get lucky like I did, finding a dealership with one, and its the end of the month. If they won't play ball tell them the 17s are coming and Ford said they were going to meet all orders this time in the US.

Its crazy the thirst for this thing. Between all the positive reviews, its performance, its mod potential, its everyday livability, hot hatch, and heritage these things are still commanding such a mark up dealers will wait until the last moment to let them go.

But in the end its a fantastic daily driver that lives up to the hype. Ill be happy with this for a while, it'll take something even more special to get me to trade it in. Happily saving up for my garage queen at this point.

I'd love to do this but it's not allowed to wash your car on your property in Germany.

Your foam is too watery imo. ;)

Not my property. This is at the detail shop I visit. Car is coated in Modesta, so don't need aggressive soap to get everything off. :)

Mercedes is just killing it the past couple of years.

AMG and Porsche just leaving BMW in the dust, it's a bummer.

Agreed. I used to be a huge BMW fan, but their performance division has been kind of disappoint lately. If you told me 10 years ago that AMG would be building better driver's cars than M, I would have laughed in your face.

Awesome. Thanks. :D

Despite owning multiple let me be straight up honest, really not that special, stock suspension is sloppy , ABS kicks in like chattering teeth, turning circle is laughable, turbo lag ranges from poor to insane, very heavy and feels it when the power steering ultimately (and predictably) dies, practically a miracle to find a red one that isn't now pink, practically a miracle to find one with a working sunroof that hasn't leaked and thus a lot of rust.
Wheel arches are rust magnets, deceleration at speed can be genuinely scary at times as you feel the weight pushing forward.

Good parts though, are that the engines more or less bulletproof so long as your water pump / water lines dont corrode, and so long as you dont run insane boost, when the turbo eventually kicks in you get a nice pull of power, and come rain, shine or snow, it soldiers on, i drove mine through the heaviest snow on record for the UK one year, roads more or less completely empty and it happily marched through the worst of it.

Warning though, do a background check on any you consider buying, so many have been in accidents and bodged up, with the seller conveniently forgetting it ever happened.

Does your friend get to keep the unlimited mileage warranty too?
I hope he does!

Unlimited mileage? It's bumper to bumper warranty man!

Get it right!!

Lol jk.

That's interesting to hear though. I thought his Viper was meant to be the 2nd car, not the replacement for the Aston?

The warranty is only for 1 year, not 2. So no. But he's a pretty damn handy dude and is always fixing his own cars, even back in the days when we both lived in NYC. Now he has an entire house near me in Florida with a large garage to dirty up.

Once he gets the car, you'll know all about it.

DeMuro is coming to Chicago on the 22nd as a stop on his cross country road trip in the Aston. Gonna go hang out with him.

Hehe, ok thank you for your honesty. Small chance that I would ever spring for one but it is always nice to know stuff.

You totally should. He seems amicable enough and definitely is an enthusiast.

Your car is looking great my man! I'm in for pictures once you install that BBK.

I admit, I intentionally put of replying to this even though I installed them a couple weeks ago, mainly because the pads were burning off a pile of contiminates and old surface rust, so the wheels were disgustingly dirty!

Heres the before and after:

Stops like a champ now!

<edit> uh oh, impulse bid on a Trueno TE27 without having a place to put it if I win.. *starts searching for rentable parking spaces again*

Are those expensive over there? Here in the US they can be a bit pricey.
around $5000-$11000 depending on condition $11000 being near mint and $5000 being tidy but in need of some love, im sure much much less if you find any in worse shape, just need to get in at the right time since most cars in need of work that are taking up space end up crushed.

AutoTrader gave him the money for a new one.

Damn you Peter Thiel!!!

Seriously though, I know he doesn't say it but I don't see how you can convince yourself to move from Jalopnik to AutoTrader where there is barely any car enthusiast following. The more surprising thing is how he convinced AT to give him a new gig and a section of the website despite his ridiculous antics.

I guess AT's gamble on him worked though... I do read his articles on Oversteer after I watch his videos lol.

Probably steady money. He wasn't "full time" on Jalopnik, not many are.

I assume he left Jalopnik because of the whole Gawker going bankrupt deal.

That didn't affect Jalopnik. Everything outside of the actual Gawker site wasn't shuttered and got bought out.

That's fairly standard though. The news business has been going to shit especially after 2008. Hell, I went to school for radio/tv/broadcast journalism and I'm here freelancing doing corporate video and photography. I'm not gonna complain here as I've aired my grievances at the Camera Equipment thread but shit sucks yo.

Anyway, I'd assume Doug was already planning to leave before Univision bought Gawker Media. I follow him on Twitter and he never gave any hints that he was leaving Jalopnik at all, IIRC it came as a surprise that he's leaving. Good for him though if he's "full time", I know a lot of people don't necessarily like his writing/antics, but I imagine I'd probably do the same if I was in his shoes so I'm fine with it lol.

mhhh i am a bit on the fence. i live in germany, a relative small town with 165.000 souls. My Last ride was a moving couch called Fiat Tempra in 2007. I never drove since back then.

But my job does require a travel from time to time and i am sick of not having this last bit of mobility. Soo. i am looking at a Seat Ibiza or Mazda 2 Nakama. Which would you recommend. want to testdrive both of them in the near future. Or would you guys say a used car is better as a "restart"...

Well snap, I accidentally a whole new car

Went for M140i (pic is M135i but they are identical externally) in grey with red leather, managed to get a ~23% discount on the total OTR price.

Grats! We don't get those in the states, I had no idea bmw had a hot hatch.

Thanks! I did read about this 1 series ending up in America, somehow.

The engine seems pretty phenomenal from the test drive, toque peaks at 1500 rpm and flat lines until it's limited to flatline the power curve! Somewhat excited as this car has twice the power of my current car.
