Came across too good of a deal to pass up on a Milltek non-resonated, non-valved catback for my Golf R. Hope I don't regret getting rid of the valves and how refined an experience it can be. I find the stock exhaust too quiet and I've gone completely the other way. Ideally wanted an AWE resonated valved system with diamond black tips but that goes for like $2600 CAD for a catback!

Yeah you're kinda crazy. Lots of other things that you could be doing to improve your car's feel (feel, not speed, because who are you trying to impress??) that are way cheaper than fancy two-piece rotors.

Worry about two-piece rotors when your track-only pads using your racing brake fluid stopping R-comp wheels overheat and crack one of your regular rotors.

I would put the money elsewhere if you want to lightly track Do you have good track pads, ss lines and fluid already?

I assume you already have SS lines, larger calipers (more pots) and better material brake pads already? Also are the two piece rotors bigger?

If you're just slapping on two piece rotors to drop your rotational mass, you would benefit way more in just buying a beat up set of gram lights and running lighter tires than you would from $1500 worth of rotors.

lol, I just have some upgraded pads. I know you guys are right, but it's my inner weight weenie calling out to me. I'll most likely end up with a set of slotted 1-piece rotors. Do you guys have a brand preference when it comes to rotors? Brembro, DBA?

Brembo slotted rotors are good. Akebono as well.

Powerslot are decent. Even $1500 on lightwheels or better tires are nicer choice imo

First impressions of the AMG GTR are coming in and they are very positive.

With my recent experience with the S Class Coupe, and how much i enjoyed the test drive in the AMG GTS, I'm quite enamored with Mercedes at the moment.

Think it's time to say goodbye to the GT4.

Never thought I'd see the day!

In other words I sat and was driven in my fiance's dad's Model S P100D. Ludicrous Mode is something else, Christ. 2.6 seconds.

Little more comfort is never a bad thing. At least I'd think that's what you're gaining in that trade, well that and 2 cylinders. Has the increase in value on your GT4 made up for the price difference?

It's coming up to new car time!

Does anyone have any experience with the new Mercedes c class coupe and wish to share their opinions?

My next car will be a daily driver and be driven by my fiance just as much as me and can't be as extreme or sporty as my current car which is a 350z.

The wish list-
Needs to look good and have a nice interior
Comfortable as our roads suck
4 seats
Enough poke that I can enjoy it, not enough that I need to worry about the other half wrapped around a tree.

I've heard the c250d is the pick of the bunch from an engine standpoint due to torque and the petrol sounding awful.c43 is reaaaaaalllly appealing too and I'll try and test drive that but just trying to work out whether it's financially feasible.

Any thoughts or alternative suggestions?

Ludicrous Mode is aptly named. I got sick after doing a few consecutive launches in it. It's also hilarious racing with it at street lights and seeing the looks on people's faces when they see a massive sedan launch like a rocket. Left many sports car owners humbled with their jaws wide open.

Not nearly enough. GT4s haven't appreciated that much unless they are PTS. Those cars are trading about 20k+ over sticker. Most normal ones are getting between MSRP-10k over depending on mileage, condition, and options. The 918 carbon buckets definitely help raise value a bit as a majority shipped with the regular sport seats. Mine has good options and is in immaculate condition due to over $5k spent on paint protection, but the mileage is a little on the high side(4,400) compared to most because I drove the hell out of it over the summer.

If I can get ~$110k trade in for my GT4, the AMG GTR would still be a substantial step up as a mildly configured one is ~$165k before taxes. At that point, I might just spend some more and look for a clean 458 Italia as I've wanted one for years. But then again, that doesn't have the tech, comfort, or daily drivability of the Benz.

Hard to beat the GT4 as value for money though so we'll see. It all depends on how my current investments pan out in 2017.

The new C class is awesome. It's pretty much a baby S class. I much prefer it to the new BMW 3 series.

Before Stinkles comes in here to praise the Audi A4, I'll tell you to take one of those for a test drive as well. I drove one recently and it was quite peppy and comfy with a well laid out interior and handsome understated looks.

but the mileage is a little on the high side(4,400) compared to most because I drove the hell out of it over the summer.

That's what it's for :D, and I wouldn't call 4400 high necessarily. Though yeah, you're approaching a segment where people don't actually drive these cars anymore.

I would say the 458 looks significantly better and it's .... well it's a Ferrari. Though a different beast than the Merc probably.

Any tips :p

just keep in mind that if you switch from a small one piece rotor to a large two piece rotor, even if the larger rotor is lighter, at high speeds the rotational mass will be the same or potentially even higher depending on the rotor size.

Don't run large rotors on OEM calipers and OEM brake lines with OEM dot3/dot4 fluid unless you like fires.

Merc gtr and 458s. Nice position to be be!

Thanks for your thoughts. Audi's and BMW's are completely uninspiring to me at this point. I briefly looked into an s5 but I've got to the point where I'm so besotted with the new Mercedes, secretly, I'm more looking for horror stories that I need to know about than a reason to purchase.

Do you spend most of your time taking pictures of it or something?
I've covered that sort of distance in a single trip, 22k on my DD over spring/summer alone and I work from home so no commute miles beyond the occasional airport run...

I think we need a new car-term here, instead of "built to park" it can be "bought to park"

I loved the c class. In the end it was a toss up between that and the a4 and the only real negative for the c class was road noise and cabin noise and a slightly underwhelming dash tech.

That's interesting as the reviews I've seen say the merc is very quiet inside however I guess it's all relative. I'm sure I read the new a4 has the best cabin insulation this side of a rolls.

My 350z sounds like you're inside of a cement mixer at high speed due to the tyre roar lol.

Well, that would definitely get you several steps up the ladder in the comfort category while not really loosing anything in the performance category. No more shifting your own gears though, which may or may not be a negative for you at this point.

Yeah it's relative. In my test drive of the C I was like "whooooooaaaaa!" but then I drove the A4 and was like "wooiooooooooooooooowww!" and yes objectively second quietest car after the Rolls.

And I have a cabin/road noise mania tbh.

The merc had the best looking cabin and exterior. In fact the E class looks like an overweight c class and suffers visually for it.

Ugh got my first scratch. Right front fender scraped a sign that had fallen down in the parking lot. Gonna take photos and show them it's their fault but what's it going to cost to deal with some very tiny scratches and paint transfer? Like you almost can't see it but the scratches are about a half inch wide and quite shallow. No dent at all.

So it might be an actual case of "that will just buff right out!" or is the the paint gouged out?

Sucks either way.

The only thing about the GTS R is that the McLaren 570S exists. And I get there's a price difference and that the GTS R is probably faster, but damn, I would probably find a way to stretch the extra distance for the McLaren. I mean, it's a McLaren.

The same McLaren which could barely finish races in F1 this season while Mercedes dominated every race...

I mean yeh, their road cars are sweet and all but this GTR ran a 7:10 Ring time with a non factory driver and is very well priced for what it does.

Oh snap! AMG GT R.. Do It! Such a boss car!!

Should get it with green or gray... Or White!!

Mclarens are nice and all...but I've never seen such a crazy depreciation. For example the mp4-12c it was like almost 300k msrp...but now they go for half!!!

Yeah. Ideally I would keep the GT4 for manual thrills, but it's isn't really viable financially. Maybe I could pick up an S2K or something as a fun and cheap 6 speed.

Is an almost $20,000 option according to the early spec sheet I was emailed a few months ago.

I would personally wait and see what they do with the Black Series.

Not sure they are going to do a black series this time, and if they do, it will most likely be in another price category around $250k.

I think the GTR is the black series of the GTS.

Anyhow, EVO do it. That thing is faster than your friends GT3 RS.
Fastest car under $400k I'd say.

Yeah. My friend cancelled his AMG GTR order since hes trading the GT3RS for an Aventador Roadster. I'll just be taking over his production slot. I've got a couple of months to decide before everything has to be finalized.

I actuallt drove the 570S a year ago. Even posted my impressions here. It wasn't that mind blowing. I enjoyed the AMG GTS more and imagine the GTR steps it up quite a bit.

I've also been hearing a lot of reliability issues from McLaren owners, so not sure I want to go down that route. I realize it's more exotic than the Benz, but that isn't all that matters to me. If I'm spending 570S money, I'd rather get a 458.

I test drove the C class and I loved it. But then I test drove the A4 and loved it slightly more. I also tried the Q50 (sloppy and rough and loud, but fun) the Acura whatever and the Lexus IS - the Acura was tedious and felt like an Accord, and actually the Accord is so good now the Acura makes very little value sense. The Lexus was more fun but felt - I don't know - flimsier?

Try the A4, it's quicker and quieter than the C, but definitely more boring looking inside and out. The C300 is a great pick. I'd get 4matic for my local mountains - summer and winter.

I recent got lightweight wheels that dropped 5 lbs from the stock wheels, so I'm good on that front. But the Brembos are my top choice right now.

just keep in mind that if you switch from a small one piece rotor to a large two piece rotor, even if the larger rotor is lighter, at high speeds the rotational mass will be the same or potentially even higher depending on the rotor size.

Don't run large rotors on OEM calipers and OEM brake lines with OEM dot3/dot4 fluid unless you like fires.

The OE rotors are already the max size that would fit in an 18" wheel, so no rotor size changes here. And I know that with 2 piece rotors, the weight savings are coming mainly from the aluminum hat, which means the weight savings are less impactful on the rotational inertia. So for now I'm just going to stick with a 1 piece setup.

Paint is definitely affected, but hard to say if gouged out. I was weirdly calm.

Bummer, but on a daily driver it's inevitable. Even the clear bra on my hood has a nice gash in it (and the hood a small dent) from a small stick that was thrown up from the ground by a minivan. I've accepted scratches on my car and make good use of my OE touchup paint pen now.

Not that a random guy on the internet has any say whatsoever but I am in complete agreement with you. I've seen and heard of a lot of reliability issues with the McLaren's and while they are great they still aren't as luxurious as the Merc while also being more expensive. I don't really know of a direct competitor to the Merc in terms of performance and luxury at its pricepoint, actually....

If you had $15,000-20,000 CAD, what used car would you get?

Right now I have a lease ending in the summer for my Kia Rio, and I'm eyeing some used Scion FR-S's. The only caveat I have to that is, it's not the most practical choice, especially for a Toronto winter (I'd have winter tires, though).

However, this is probably the only time in my life where I can get away with a non-practical "sports" car. (I put it in quotes because y'know.)

I sold my FR-S after 18 months and 12k miles. Getting in and out of the thing is a pain, every clown in a Mustang will want to race you (this may be an American phenomenon), and there is zero sound insulation.

But other than a leaky taillight on mine, had no issues at all. Still kind of miss it from time to time, but usually only when the sun's out and the roads are dry.

Agree - like if you're actually driving around a lot, maybe even road trips, it's not even close, rationally. the Merc will be reliable and luxurious, let alone comfortable.

However, the irrational part of you should get the McLaren because it's a unicorn.

From one Brz/86/FRS owner to a potential other, if it snows where you live, hit the road and enjoy the hell out of it.

I daily my BRZ (4 winters now) in Michigan. Winter tires are a must but no problems other than that.

Man, EVO the GT4 seems like a pretty amazing car that should be held on to for as long as possible and enjoyed (driven as much as you God damn please). Why don't you hold on to it for years, build a relationship with it and give fuck-all about what potential buyers think about the mileage you put on it? Invest the extra money you'd spend on a AMG GTR and then really shoot up the ladder.

S Class, X5, and GT4 is a fucking bitchin stable for someone that hasn't hit 30 yet.

Continuing the unintentional red car theme this page has going on... say hi to Rudolph the red-nosed NC Miata:

Do the merc Evo X...in green too <3. Its a stunner, honestly love that car. Its the one car that I would seriously think of getting over a 911

So I mounted the tires. Car is dirty, but I cannot wait for the snow lol

Great fit. I love the way this merc looks. Real road presence.

Yup I'll post one up in the New Year when I have it installed! I actually have the S3 res-delete midpipe on mine right now and it should've came that way stock as a good balance between comfort and some grunt.

This post just cracks me up.
