Wow, I'm quite surprised people agree with me about the AMG One. I was getting ready to put my flame suit on since last time somebody brought up a hot take about the Dodge Demon, it got pretty heated in here.

Yes, I was trying to shove as many heat related puns in there as much as possible haha.

Me personally, the ultimate be all and end all goal would be to buy a 6MT 911 and daily drive that thing. If I can get to that in this lifetime, I'd know that I have made it lol.

If you'd like I can support your feelings as well and someone will certainly yell at me for it. :D

My Dad's 70th birthday is tomorrow so we went to the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta yesterday and did the VIP Tour + Demo Lap + Lunch at restaurant 356. The VIP tour was informative and interesting but the real highlight was the demo lap and then lunch at the 356.

We did our laps in a Miami Blue 911 Carrera S but some lucky fellow in front of us got to do his in a 911 GT3 RS. Seeing that car in action was definitely the cherry on top of a great day. The GT3 RS is an absolute animal and made the (very nice) Carrera S seem sort of boring in comparison.

Our bread service at the restaurant after our demo laps had butter that was shaped like a 911. Because, why not?!

LqREETF.jpg

And, bonus clip of the GT3 RS spinning and then accelerating away from us. I wish I had more than 8 seconds on film though. I can watch and listen to it all day.

Yeah, you should totally get that 991.2 Carrera S in Miami Blue instead of the M2 and M240i, Base Macan or Audi S4, S5.

Come on, you know you want to.
Nah, wife gave me the blessing for a Macan (GTS?) this fall/winter and a sports car (Cayman?) of some sort for spring 2019. Best of both worlds, no? Happy problems. :)

I look at used 991.1s yesterday, and I can't stand those horizontal lines at the back. Funny how they manage to make something you thought was so hot looks so bleh with the latest updates. I can't even look at the 997s anymore as I dislike its looks now. Something must be wrong with me.

Dealer didn't have the cars ready yesterday, so no test drives to report.

Guys, I found my 370Z.

I popped in the VIN and a public records site came up with the owner name and address registered (btw, wtf too easy).

I Google Mapped it...and there she is. Sitting underneath a canopy car cover just a few towns over. :'(

Guys, I want her back. He probably doesn't even treat her the way I did. I was better to her.

I think I'm gonna creep on the car over the weekend...

I.. I've never been jealous of butter before? Reminded me of the 911-shaped keyfob. didn't seem particularly useful for the hands, but damn it's cool. It's harder and harder to resist the siren's call of the experience center

A couple of other tidbits I remembered from the drive:

1) Porsche does nothing different to the vehicles for their use at the Experience Center. They are completely stock in every way and exactly the way that they rolled off of the assembly line. Stock brakes, stock fluids, stock tires. According to the instructor that gave us our demo laps they want people to know that they can go buy the same vehicles that they are testing at the experience center and know that they will be able to have exactly the same capabilities with no need for any modifications. To me, this just shows the tremendous capability that Porsche builds into all of its vehicles in stock form.

2) The Carrera S hit the low 100's in MPH on the longer straight away and then under max braking creates over 1.3G's in deceleration. It was intense. The more time I spend in Porsche's the more impressed I get with their body control and amazing brakes. Yes they are fast but many cars are fast these days. What they do so well is control that speed and channel it in ways that, to me, seem to bend physics. I'm still sort of blown away that both the Carrera S and the Macan GTS hold the road and shed speed at such astonishing rates. It boggles my mind when I think about it.

3) As cool as the Carrera S was (and I love the Miami blue also, I think it's a gorgeous color on the Carrera S) it was completely overshadowed for me by the GT3 RS. The sound and fury emanating from that car was just awesome and reinforced to me that most turbocharged cars sound pretty bad and that nothing compares to a high revving, naturally aspirated motor. I hope that in the future someone (are you listening, Porsche?) can find a way to make a turbo motor sound as good as the old naturally aspirated stuff. Otherwise, sports cars equipped in such a way loose some of their luster and you really shouldn't have to say that about a $100k+ 911 or any other world class sports car.

4) Again, as cool as the Carrera S was my heart is still set on the Macan GTS. Seeing them up close reminded my of how much I like they way they look and they way they get down the road while having 4 usable seats and actual cargo space. I could probably afford a pre-owned Carrera with what I plan to spend on the Macan in a few years but I just really like the Macan better.

5) The new Panamera is gorgeous in person and in motion. There was an E-Hybrid going around the track while we ate lunch and it is miles better than the old design. Of all the cars we saw yesterday I think it is the one that impressed my Dad the most. He bought a hat at the retail store so I think maybe he's coming around to Porsche even though he still loves his BMW a lot.

Good to hear about the Macan GTS. I've booked a test drive with the dealership next week. Hope it is amazing! I've read that it is the best bang for the buck in the line-up and even sportier than the non-performance package Turbo.

The new Hyundai Ioniq looks pretty cool imo, wouldnt mind one.

The Ioniq still looks like a Prius to me lol.

I don't know why every hybrid/EV has to look like a damn egg lol. Seriously, the Prius, Leaf, Ioniq, Bolt and whatever else has a weird ass egg shape... it's just ugly imo. They just need to make it a regular looking car.

If I had to get a hybrid/EV now, I'd get the e-Golf instead coz that actually looks like a regular car... none of this egg-shape "hurr-durr I want to save the environment therefore my car looks abnormal" nonsense.

If you'd like I can support your feelings as well and someone will certainly yell at me for it. :D

LOL.

I do have a hot take about my GTI, but I'm only about 2 weeks in the new ownership phase, so if I still have the same thoughts 2 weeks from now, I'll probably mention it lol.

Lawwwd that Miami Blue Carrera S is the stuff of dreams.

One of these days, I'm definitely gonna have on in the garage... even if it takes me more than 20 years lol.

Guys, I found my 370Z.

:(

My Miata is still sitting at the dealer I bought my GTI from and I highly doubt they're gonna be able to sell it pretty quick.

The way it's setup right now, any prospective buyer who doesn't know anything about it is gonna hate it coz I purposely set the shocks to ride a little stiffer to absorb the bumps. Then the springs on it are fantastic but they ride looooow, and are meant for spirited runs instead of cruising. The exhaust is loud, loud enough that it reverberates inside the cabin and has bad drone in highway speeds. And lastly, the door bushings... I swapped them out with delrin bushings that somehow stiffen up the chassis and smoothen out the NVH, but at the cost of the doors requiring more force to close and occasionally not closing right.

Heck, I even have a couple of bottles of the paint coz I was planning to fix the fender bender from a month ago myself. I was actually planning to spend the Labor Day weekend to fix it up, but as it turned out... I ended up buying the GTI that weekend instead lol.

I hope the car gets sold locally coz I want to find the new owner and give them the stuff that I still have like the adjusters for the shocks, the original door bushings, the stock intake and exhaust, and whatever else I still have in my garage lol.

To be fair the reason why people yelled at you and not him is because he expressed a personal preference while you attacked the very existence of such cars and more or less badmouthed anyone that had/would like one.

It makes a huge difference.

Noooooooo!!! I found the house from Google Maps was sold last month!! FUCK! Look how dirty the wheels are!

Goddamn you, current owner. How could you be doing this!?

Of the 3 people I reached out to on FB, 2 got back to me, and it's not them. The third is a real estate agent, and the listing on this house is so fucking clean.

And he even had the whole house staged flawlessly. The people from the Z forums who have spotted the car before told me it's a young guy driving it, just like the agent.

It leads me to believe it could be this guy. But man, if he moved...and if it's this 3rd guy, he moved from Orlando to Lake Worth FL, which is a trek. :'(

If you haven't driven it, you'll love it. Tried it at the LA Experience Center and it's great. I mean, I personally think the Base Macan is already amazing since it is so comfortable compared to my Cayman and Boxsters, but to have that comfort along with the performance of a sports car is insane. It's sad you only get to test drive it, if you're not he edge then you should definitely just rent one off Turo.com or something for a weekend and test it out even further.

To be fair, if the wheels are covered in brake dust, then it probably means the car has been driven and continues to be used. I think it's more sad for a car to sit in a garage for weeks at a time without usage.

But like everyone else, if you feel terribly about it, buy it back. I think Nissan 370Z's are awesome.

Oh that wasn't my intent to insult anyone. Certainly I was questioning their raison d'etre, but I wouldn't insult anybody for wanting or owning one.

I'm noticing that that light blue color is starting to appear everywhere now, probably because Ford has it available on both the RS and Mustangs.

I'm not kidding when I say this, but if we could've gotten the FoST with Nitrous Blue(the one from the RS, the Mustang light blue isn't the same) I definitely would be driving a FoST right now instead of a GTI.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why you re-adjust your ride height after new coils have had a month or so to settle (2.6cm drop from the height they were when set) thankfully I anticipated a drop of around about that so it's more or less spot on.

p.s. 19" wheels do indeed fit a twin.

Two examples of folks on this page that have cars with awesome wheel choices. Example A - Looking good! Is that a BMW wheel or aftermarket?

Lucked out on Uber this morning and got a MAYBACH! It was a "select" but the dude said business was slow so he was slumming it - and that he usually does private events and fancy weddings and so on. I didn't realize the drivers had so much control over what tiers they were able to be in. I was bummed it was only a 15 minute ride. That thing is just swell. I've been in an older one before in Singapore a couple of years ago, but I guess I didn't realize they put more Mercedes named branding in it. The first one I rode in only had Maybach logos and stuff, but this one had Mercedes and S Class on it. Or vice versa I suppose.

He was glad I was into the car but he really didn't seem to know all that much about it.

Gorgeous car and I love those wheels, are they BBS?

After it had rained here in Frankfurt non-stop for the entire week, I had to use today's sunny weather to give the car a proper wash. Still want to have the car properly detailed before winter, just need to find the time.

Parked safe and sound and not a minute too soon, the minute I got back into my apartment it started raining...

I also stopped by Audi today and saw this gorgeous R8 V10. Had a pretty nice spec, the interiour was gorgeous.

Gonna head to the IAA motorshow here in Frankurt this week. Today was the first day it was open to the public and not just the press, but I'll probably head there Monday or Tuesday. Way too full this weekend.
I'll try to get some nice photos to post, the thread definitely needs more photos. :)

Thanks! Those are aftermarket wheels.

Thank you! Unfortunately they're not lol. They're VMR wheels V810.

I had VMR on my BMW 335i Coupe while living in NYC and I'd buy them again. My wife dented one and when I saw the pothole she hit, I was surprised the tire didn't explode and crack the wheel.

They make good wheels.

Fun day today. Drove a bunch of cars for extended test drives without any sales rep with me. Here's my 2 cents :

2018 S5 sportback : great look (inside and outside), nice seats and gadgets, best sound system I've heard in a car, good performance on the street, quiet engine/exhaust noise and the acceleration is not as "explosive" as the C43. Amazing daily driver though.

2018 SQ5: floaty suspension, same engine as S5 I believe, but felt lethargic. Definitely no Macan, nor S5/C43 in terms of performance.

2017 Macan base (used) : slowest car of them all, drove much better than SQ5 but not as well as S5 or C43. I can understand why everyone else says it doesn't drive like any other SUV. Cramped back seats. Don't think it's for me, and I am tempted to cancel my GTS test drive.

2017 C43 AMG sedan: by far the most fun to drive. Ridiculously fast. Great engine noise/exhaust (much better than F80 M3 imo). Power everywhere. Makes you want to speed all the time. So-so sound despite Burmester setup, navigation and menu screens look outdated, rear of the car still looks not quite right. Debating between this and S5 sportback.

Planning for M2, M240 test drive next week. Maybe I'll get to test drive a RS3 too.

Previously it was running white RS05RR's

Switched to the Ray's 57 Xtremes for summer, will be back to the Enkei's when winter sets in because the rubber on them handles a *lot* better on wet roads than Nitto NT05's

I still think you should try the Macan GTS as it will be in another league from the base car. It can get much lower, it will handle better, go much faster and sound far better. Oh and the back seats will still be cramped but hey at least you will be having fun!

I'm glad you checked out and reported back on the SQ5. I saw one on the road the other day and thought it was an attractive SUV and wondered how it compared to the Macan.

Let us know how the rest of the test drives go.

You should not miss the RS3
But what about the Giulia veloce.? It's pretty much a Ferrari four door. Ok so it's the mid spec but it's still 5 seconds to 60mph and steers the same as the monster variant.

Fuck, I'm a moron.

Please tell me I can fix this! "Cleaned" 2 wheels before I noticed the damage I was doing.
Are they unpainted metal, or painted?

Regardless of which you should be fine with going over them again with 2000 grit wet and dry, with plenty of water, then i mid range abrasive rubbing compound then final go over with finishing compound.

If painted don't go too crazy on the rubbing pressure, and when you've got it smooth you'll likely benefit from a fresh dusting of clearcoat

As for your tires, might just be my imagination, but while the wheels off check around your inner wheel well and around the suspension components and see if you can see anywhere where it looks like a bunch of rubbing has occured, you don't normally get that level of edge wear unless you run a lot of camber or super high tire pressure

Also that wallet thread, holy shit...
