Just exactly how slow is the Huracan compared to the 720s in the straight? Really slow

Damn, I didn't even realize you beat me to that post.

I sent this to my brother, and he felt humbled. LOL. He thinks anything more than 600HP should have AWD because it's too hard to put the power down.

Nah, breh.

On the other hand, I did discover that all my windows are automatic, I thought they'd be manual coz you know base model and all that lol.

Welcome to the 21st century! It's ok. I'm always impressed whenever a car I rent for business or drive nowadays has navigation. I'm even more impressed whenever I see a backup camera. Although to be fair, I rarely use backup cameras since I'm used to cars without them.

I went from the stock NA lights to the OG MK7 Euro R LED tails to now the MK7.5 Euro LED tails with sequential signals. Absolutely love the dynamic amber rear signals, I get asked about them regularly cause there's nothing else on the market with them (Audi dynamic signals are red I believe).

Wow, nice find! Truck looks very, very nice. I spend most of my time around vehicles that are in the 70s or older and I think I may have only ever seen two of these in my life.

On the other end of the classic truck spectrum, (not so rare and not so nice) I ended up with this a few days ago:

36648700420_7b9bafdd7a_c.jpg

A 77 Chevy wrecker that was actually given to me. One of my dad's friends had acquired it in part of a trade deal, kept it for several months and then decided he really didn't need it and it was taking up space in his shop. Runs and drives and has a darn good wrecker bed on it. It's a fixer upper, but I'm going to use it for awhile and then sell or trade it off to fund some other projects. I was told the truck originally had a 454, unfortunately a previous owner thought it would be a good idea to put a straight 6 in it... (eyeroll emoji)
Might have to at least put a small block in it if I use it very much...

Nice. That's a work horse, and you put it to work. The problem with that Cameo is you'd never be able to use it as an actual truck again because it's a rolling museum piece. Still damned cool though. Really rare- I believe less than 2000 of those were made IIRC. Maybe even less than 1500, and with what you use a truck for, well...

I have no idea why anyone would ever want a V6 in a wrecker. Definitely a big block V8 if you're gonna tow anything besides a 90s import or something.

I have a real soft spot for trucks. We had a late 70s F150 when I was a kid that we finally got rid of at 300K or so miles because the master cylinder on the brakes died. Should have just fixed it, engine still ran great. Can't say the same for the Ranger we got after that, sadly. Real POS, that one.

I bet that same hispanic family that bought that F150 still has it running somewhere out there in a field in BFE.

In other unrelated news, this damn Eagle Creek fire has my Cayman completely covered in ash and soot, and if anybody has good cleaning tips for that so as to not damage the paint I'm all ears.

Have a detailer give it a foam bath with a gun. Don't take a sponge to it immediately, otherwise it can cause a lot of swirling. The foam lifts particles up, softens them, and obviously a lot of it will also be washed away as the soap and water cascade off the car. Avoid physically touching the paint at the moment.

I'd do what Alphasnake recommends. I was going to link you a car wash gun and foam you can get on Amazon, but I just remembered you don't have a garage and most likely don't have access to a hose/faucet nearby. Just take it to the dealer.

Yeah, I wouldn't be hauling anything with that Cameo lol. My cousin is pretty big into those 67-79 Ford trucks. He's got a lot of them, most are just parts trucks, but he has a few nice ones. Here's a 3/4 ton he just got painted and put together a couple months ago:

Sorry, my car is kinda in the way, but that's the only pic I have of it.

Lol. I seriously feel like I'm driving a space age car right now. The Miata was so barebones, even my aftermarket head unit took more 2-3 minutes to connect to bluetooth with my phone... now I just get in and in less than 10 seconds its connected to BT, and like 5 secs to connect to Carplay.

It's actually pretty amazing to see the difference in a span of 10 years. Seems like before 2010, cars were basically no different with 80's and 90's cars in terms of technology, but after 2010, it really exploded starting with BT to now where the luxury features 5-10 years ago are practically standard in even the cheapest crapcans.

Yeah, the sequential signals are definitely what I'm getting when I upgrade the lights. Are there any code issues with the lights or are they just bolt-ons?

They all come back.

Haha yeah, pretty much. AFAIK, the only way to really leave the Miata club is to get a 911/Cayman.

They'll need to be coded with vagcom/vcds. Should be VW guys in your area who would be willing to code them for a case of beer 🍻.

I'll take a pic for you in the coming days. I've kept the car as stock as possible honestly. It had the bucket/single seat option back in the day, so I left that. It has the column shifter and well overall the interior is very bare bones and black.

Here's a pic I googled. Mine looks almost identical minus the floor shifter and chrome touch on the instrument panel:

Thank you, I also love the stock rallys look so I've always kept them.

The engine setup is really quite weird but I bought it that way originally and have never found time to do a swap yet.

It has the original Straight-6 rebuilt with a 4-barrel carb...yes, 4-barrel. I've been meaning to do a V8 swap for some time, but I don't know, I like the way it runs now and it's a lot of work and $$$ so I never get to it in the end. I'm not a performance or speed guy, I just love the way early 70s Novas look, so I drive one haha.

The most important point here...that Firebird is fucking pure gold, congratulations. Beautiful car, fantastic.

Whoah, those are great! I don't remember seeing many (or any) in that color before either. Do you daily it or is it just for fun?

Kind of a mixture. My wife and I also have a 2012 Hyundai and basically take turns. Essentially, I commute to work with it twice a week and then sometimes cruise it on the weekends, use it for small trips and so on.

I was never interested in having a car like this primarily to look at it in my garage and keep it 100% mint fresh. Not shitting on people who do that, but I just don't have the money, time or interest. I just like driving a cool ass car and it's really hard to kill these 70s Chevys if you don't need it to be perfect.

The stock color was very close, but it was repainted in this specific color shortly before I bought it. One of the main reasons I bit. It's actually brighter than the photo, but I took this just after sunrise and at a weird angle. Paint is also not as perfect, but looks pretty damn cool going down the road.

Anyone have experience with a car with a ton of paint/clear coat damage ?

My beater car, 01 jetta vr6 has a ton of stripping on the hood and roof. Starting to get onto top of doors.

It's not worth much these days but its still fun to drive and id consider gifting it to some nephews. I'm wondering how cheap it would be to get a crappy maaco job or something. I can't even really wash the thing because of the damage

Now I'm glad I got the performance package.

Took a corner a little too hot earlier, but for some reason I felt that I could get past the understeer to turn more and I was right lol.

The car just freakily rotates as if it's RWD. The initial understeer seems like it exists just to tell you that you need to chill while also telling you that you can fight it. Push that pedal down and almost instantaneously it'll bite and you can feel the rear end push out.

Apparently this is something all FWD with LSD's do as the Mazdaspeed3 has the same characteristics, with the addition of torque steer of course, and it's why my brother was insistent on getting a PP GTI.

They'll need to be coded with vagcom/vcds. Should be VW guys in your area who would be willing to code them for a case of beer 🍻.

Oh I'm sure there's dudes out there. I see at least one or two mk7 GTI's on the road and there's a ton of VW tuners in the area which is pretty cool. Hell, there's one that's literally 10 mins away from my house!

Time for Jongkookie to meetup Wolf from the Mk7 forums.

Lol. It's funny how there's always a guru in car communities. The DFW Miata scene had 3 and each of them owned or worked at Miata shops in the area. They were always willing to help a hand too if beer was involved.

I traded in the 350z 2 weeks ago and got a brand new 67 plate Mercedes c class coupe 250d amg line. Absolutely loving it so far. Looks so good, ridiculously plush inside and rides so well which is a nice change from previous.

One question though, is engine break in a thing? I've been driving in eco mode like a granny so not to stress the engine and not really taking it above 2000 rpm. Am I wasting my time and what do you guys typically do with your new cars?

Anyone think the GC trackhawk is literally the swan song of the high capacity internal combustion engine?
Like the last great steam train, are people in 2150 going to marvel at how a mint example sucks 30k litters of air per minute and makes mechanical noises even at rest?

It is a thing but the actual procedure differs from manufacturer to manufacturer. Check your owners guide and it should have the specific instructions for your car.

Possibly. At this point most of the performance and exotic car makers are moving towards hybrid technology or smaller displacements with boost. Even though it is a bit "old" already something like the 918 Spyder is a pretty good idea of how to marry electric and ICE together for the best of both worlds in terms of performance. In the next 2 - 3 years we should have a much better idea of how these technologies will come together although I wouldn't put it past FCA to create a Demon II or Trackhawk II before they give up on the idea of high capacity ICE.

Alpha, you and the others I can't remember are right.

Put 93 in my GTI this morning and the computer tells me I have a range of 390 miles vs the 370 it displayed when I got the car on Saturday. And on the trip to work it tells me I averaged 36mpg... are these super accurate? Coz I want to believe lol.

Also Costco will forever stay winning. While 93 everywhere else is at a whopping 3.09 or higher, Costco will sell you a gallon for 2.67.

Hopefully Irma doesn't pull more shit and cause more shortages or price hikes. Ain't nobody got time for that. And for all y'all Auto-GAF in Florida and the east coast, stay safe out there.

What. It's like negative effort went into both the inside and outside. TVR is really hanging on by a thread I guess.

Performance-wise, the Ford-Cosworth V8 and sub-1250kg mass allow a power/weight ratio of 400bhp/tonne, while the top speed is over 200mph. TVR will build 500 Launch Edition cars (featuring extra carbon) next year, for around £90,000 – of which around 20-25 are left, so you'd better be quick.

I average over 30 mpg per tank with mostly city driving. Remaining mile counter is flakey in the sense that when it's at 0 you actually have over 2 gallons left. I choose to fill up soon after 0, but you can reliably count on 50+ more miles in an pinch.

I really miss the fuel mileage I got in my MK6 GTI. Even tuned to Stage 2, it obliterated the MPG I get in my R. I'm averaging low 20s with about 70% city, 30% highway driving.

Yep. As I said, the knock sensor may be adjusting for all sorts of shit, but there are still actual performance drawbacks that simply boil down to general chemistry that nothing mechanical can ease or compensate for - knock sensors simply protect the engine from excessive detonation. Low grade octane = lower performance. And that will almost always be the case.

And yes, these days the trip monitors are very accurate. But when they read 0, be careful. Some cars do it at 2 gals, some at 1.5, and I've seen some at 1 and less. Every car is different. On my Jags, the light comes on at 2 (or 2.5) gallons, I believe. On my past Nissans and Infiniti it was 2.5-3 (depending on how hard I was driving with lower fuel capacity).

Yep, that's a TVR, alright. I love it. Look at that shifter!!

And also, that rear end...that's FT1 (Supra Concept) all the way. Headlights look a bit shit from the profile, but then again...all TVRs have a shit angle. But I still love them. The UK's Viper

Thanks man! And nothing wrong with an old straight 6 (unless it's in a tow truck haha.) So do you have an adapter to put the 4 barrel on that intake or an aftermarket intake? I didn't think the sixes came with 4 barrels but I could be wrong. My dad had a hi-flow aluminum intake for a Chevy 6 that was made for a 4 barrel and it had 6 = 8 cast on the top side. Always thought that was pretty cool.

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
You guys think they'll bring the Viper back? Soon? The distant future? Will it retain what makes it, well, it?

I've posted here before that for my entire life I've intended to purchase one - it was my first dream car. My father's friend had - at the time - a pretty new one in the late 90s and I thought it was the most badass thing in the world. Probably didn't make my dad feel great about his then '95 Z28 or his later 2002 Corvette, but the Viper always felt just a huge step above everything else. And even as a little kid, I loved how I could recognize it was built for absolutely nothing but being ridiculous. It's why I think I love my Hellcat so much now.

ANYWAY... it'll be interesting to see how pricing/depreciation will affect 2017 models in the coming years. If it really is gone for good, I do have to say it makes it very easy to "pick a year," because, well, I know I want the final year. I really like that. But I'm curious if being picky will matter - and also, as I started, I wonder if we'll see it again - this isn't the first time Dodge got rid of it, but those were different times. I've been keeping a pulse on sales around the country. This isn't happening today by a long shot; not even "soon." But it's fun to start tinkering in your mind.

I honestly doubt it very much. But it's funny you mention the car, because I was on AutoTrader yesterday looking at one. I love almost everything about the last one, except for that low-revving motor. A 6200RPM is just so...bleh.

Still, if I could, I'd probably own one for a while.

To be fair, that is a very common design for vents. My 370Z had similar vents too.
I know but it is from a Fiesta, even the steering column with the washer and indicator thingys I forgot what they're called are the same. It wont matter though once you fire up that Cosworth V8. I'm undecided on the looks, I'll judge it when I see it in person but specs wise it sounds delicious.

Funny, that's my only real complaint about the Hellcat - it redlines at 5700 :-/ Like, it just feels like it should have more -especially because the illusion of peak power isn't even starting until at least 3500 in each gear, so there's a very narrow window when it feels like you're actually pushing it.

Anyway - I agree, I think it's gone for good save for maybe some weird one-off down the line or a resurrection decades from now in a totally different climate.

Ultimately it'll come down to my finances and living arrangements when the time comes, but man oh man would I love to do an ACR. I imagine I'll happily "settle" for a GTS ... but something about that ACR is just pure sex to me. It doesn't turn the dial to "11", it rips the fucking dial off.

... that's a sub $200K car!

My era of "Viper poster" was when it was a flimsy unreliable monstrosity with a large parts bin truck engine jammed into a too light frame and was epic until asked to do anything outside of drag racing. You have no idea how difficult it is for me to accept that by the time it retired, it was a world class underrated proper GT/LeMans hybrid freak. Still had a shitty interior though so I can cling to that.

Wow, I don't think I ever realized the Hellcats redline at 5700. That is super low. Hahaha

And yeah, I'd settle for a plain jane Viper, tbh. And mod the rest myself.

They feel cheap, but they're simple and do their job well. Very easy to direct wind and close.

The vents in my '17 A4 are designed into the cockpit fascia as aesthetic as well as practical elements. The problem is that I'm honestly not sure what is vent and what is décor, and further, I'm never really sure they're all pointing in the right direction or blowing stuff.

A vent about vents. Delicious!
