Tantei Team KZ Jiken Note Episode 10 – The Back Yard Knows Part 2

Good scene for Kuroki but really Uesugi could talk to him. What is there to be competitive about :(

Concrete Revolutio credits are out. Aikawa is writing all the remaining episodes, which means we won't see the episodes Nakashima wrote until the second cour next year.

Bubuki Buranki looks about as good as I had hoped. There's still some jank here and there, especially in regards to the framerate and the shadig, but I feel we are getting there.

But at this level of sophistication I wonder if it is really all that much cheaper compared to traditional animation.

The art direction is real good, and the CG is better than I expected from Sanzigen, even if I'm not totally sold on it. Maybe I'll actually check this out.

Looks vastly better than Sidonia. That's probably due to Yuuji Kaneko's (KLK/LWA) influence.

Sidonia's art direction was pretty good; the problem there was mostly how Polygon decided to handle the CG. If I were to credit one person for how good Bubuki Buranki overall looks right now, it would be director Daizen Komatsuda.

Looks pretty good! Wonder if they can keep it up through the whole production. I guess with 3D it would be much easier to actually do that if you can complete the base stuff (modelling and rigging) earlier.

Would like to see a synopsis though. Too many visually interesting shows lately that turn out less than favorable upon watching first episodes. :(

CG isn't chosen here because it's cheaper than 2D animation, especially since this is a project being spearheaded by a CG studio. It would be a mistake to assume that the only reason Japanese animation projects use CG is to save on costs, as opposed to the natural inclination in artists to take advantage of technology.

Now the best CG animation doesn't try to closely mimic 2D anime, but comes up with its own stylization to create a visual look that only CG can. (See Show by Rock and recent Precure CG.)

There is this English synopsis:

Returning to Japan after having been away for 10 years, Azuma Akira finds himself attacked and captured by armed strangers. What saved him was his childhood friend, the girl Ōgon Asabuki, and the Bubuki that had become her right hand.

Jiro Ishii is overseeing the writing.

What's this? A show with CG humans that doesn't make me cough up blood when I look at it?

The time are changing.

We got a second season basically confirmed duckroll?

They haven't announced it but it's 100% confirmed. Not only is the disc release format the same type Bandai Visual uses for all split-cour shows, but Nakashima is supposed to have written 2 episodes for the series, and he's not in any of the 13 this season. I also hear that the staff mentioned working on "episode 14" already. :p

All of those characters are CG, right? If so, that's the first time I've seen decent looking CGI humans in anime. Reminds me of Guilty Gear Xrd.

Wow, no kidding.

I've never been not immediately repulsed by CG humans in anime before. The art direction is pretty solid, too.

Show looks generic as all hell, but maybe I'll give it a shot anyway.

This got pretty serious real quick. Great episode and its interesting to see that this isn't looking like the typical Federation vs Zeon story like the older Gundams were (not that there's anything wrong with those)

Just doing my part in showcasing Aikatsu's baller CG. I'd say it emulates the existing character designs more than Precure CG and especially SBR, but it's still damn good and has been for more than half the show's run.

Betrayals and murder and ninjas left and right. Okita vs. Kamui vs. amazing and the other fights were too.
Also ended at the perfect moment with the
SHOGUN KA YO
. Hype still through the roof.

Also looks like I'm going to put Bubuki Buranki on my watchlist.

That gaming side topic about some Valkyrie Drive game is something else.

How can someone with an Saber avatar be upset about pornographic content within Valkyrie Drive which is an ecchi show where it's the whole damn point, whereas said person goes as far as calling a sex scene in F/N 'poignant' when that series would be a prime example of poorly done sexual fanservice with laughable justification and writing all around.

Mana sharing is poignant. Now I have seen it all.

Why are you complaining about a random post in a random thread without even linking the post or just posting in response to said guy? But sure, I'll bite and say that the concept of literally anything in FSN being "poignant" is pretty lol worthy, much less the absurdly graphic sex scenes.

Well, people here have been mentioning Off-Topic constantly, too. Dunno how well it's liked to link directly to people when you might consider it ridicule and all, so I stayed a bit more vague.

I also did reply to that person, without paying any attention to the avatar, though. When that and other stuff got pointed out by others and he/she just didn't seem to move an inch, that's where I gave up. Here's a reply to my remark.

I mean porn isn't a niche industry, so little surprise that pornographic animated series aren't either. I'll also consider it questionable to call out porn for pornographic content. There's shows where sexual fanservice is a legit disservice to them, but this isn't one of them.

I don't think its porn at all, its basically just a far more extreme version of a basic ecchi series. If it WAS porn, then it would not be shown on TV.

Its the "let's so how FAR we can skirt the line"ness of it i don't like, where your not going to be up front about the fact that your showing titillation 99% of the way but at the same time pretend your actually having a story with set concepts and characters to show on TV like a series that's actually serious about having these things

If Valkyrie Drive isn't up-front about its pornographic content (let's not get overly semantic about this either) then whatever.

The concept of the sex in FSN being "poignant" is scrambling my brain. It's just about as poignant as a random PornHub video and equally as graphic.

Gundam Zeta is really something special. It is probably my favorite Gundam show, though I haven't watched too many of the shows.

Looking at the Valkyrie Drive game makes me have a certain appreciation for Arms Corp. At least their character design isn't as bland, and the anime project itself has more personality than whatever second-tier game Marvelous wants to dump out. That's more than you can say about how Artland handled their Marvelous property.

The movie is basically a more direct version of the series. It's very beautiful, definitely a must watch.

So it's basically a recap movie ?
Was expecting Anthy's search for Utena or something like that.

I think that Utena was, overall, a tad too abstract for my taste, where the characters and story cannot really be taken at face value without seeming ridiculous and, at the same time, the underlying themes aren't necessarily immediately apparent on a first view. Because of that I often times felt unsure what to really make of it, the ending included.

I'm just going to chalk it up as yet another
Enokido's growing up/maturity thing. ;p At least part of it.

Maybe I could've been much more perceptive of or so but it's not for a lack of trying I wanna say. Mawaru Penguindrum meanwhile managed to balance it better. There I could empathize with the characters, understand most of the story bits going on and the underlying themes were better integrated and more obvious.

maybe I'm just a pleb :'(

I never even managed to grow very fond of Kanba and Shouma but even with that, the simple hook of trying to save your sister made it all very much more relatable then the constant duels, often with a very flimsy reasoning for them. (
I want to know what exactly Akio has been showing the duelists to make them fight yet again. :(
)

Zettai Unmei >> Rock Over Japan though

Nah, it's its own thing, a more abstract and zany telling of the Utena story. A lot of people love it, but I found it a low hollower than the TV series. It lacks the strong characterization and emotional punch of the show.

Ah alright. I'll take it over a straight recap. Ikuhara with a movie sized resource pool sounds like a sight to behold too.

Yeh Kanba in particular is among my less liked characters along with
his natural sister
. But as you say, their motivation was clear and understandable at least.

Zettai Unmei >> Rock Over Japan though

No doubt. The former made me watch the egregiously long canned animation sequence a couple times whereas I didn't skip the one in MawaPen only twice or so.

Great news. I was worried they were gonna try to cram a finale into the remaining episodes.

Also those Valkyrie Drive threads over in gaming...

([/I]

It is a lot of symbolism, abstract and blatant(swords literally stabbing roses, jeez I wonder what that represents), to digest. Jesus you could write a whole essay on the sexual implications, symbols and gender roles in Utena(Susan Napier's essay on it is a really interesting read). My view of the end is

Utena achieves her ideal to act as the prince by fully confirming her love for Anthy, giving her the strength to show Anthy an alternative to Akio's oppression. The fact she breaks through a coffin show her story arc came to a conclusion as the coffin was her symbol that represented her inability to grow and her overcoming social constrictions.

Anthy is never portrayed as weak character though, but she simply doesn't see any other possibility but to remain at her brother's side, as that is where is has the most self-worth.

So in the end Anthy is not a truly helpless damsel in distress and Utena never fully saves her. Utena just opens her eyes to the possibilities of life without Akio's sexual aggression, abuse and oppression. In that way Anthy gains more agency and her choice to reject Akio is more satisfying as she did it by herself, in the end leading to her independence. End of the World literally being a power inside everyone to change.

Anthy's rejection of Akio in the end and her searching for utena, I always viewed it as she was now free sexually and socially to achieve an actual, more full friendship with Utena/lesbian relationship if you read it that way.

I mean thats just one reading. There are tons of ways to look at it. If you said the whole series was male patriarchy/violence inflicted on women, there is tons to back that up too.

Gintama 301

Shinsengumi get to be badasses for once. Best part was Kagura's "Toshiiiiiiiii"

But Build Fighters is a really bad sci fi mecha show, unless you like cheesy non serious stuff.

Lol what, if anything the serious stuff is cheesy in most Gundam series, and also terrible. GBF dodges all that and thats why its the best Gundam series besides Geass

GBF---------->Sakugabooru
that's all really, don't need to watch it

GBF wasn't an amazingly animated show so I don't know what you mean
