Why do you even need an AOTY poll for? Rakugo aired this year.

Well, outside of anime GAF, it's not that popular... JoJo and Re;Zero will kill it dead...

Just throw it in wit regular voting, let it sink or swim under its own merit, and be done with it. The aoty list briefly masquerades as a one-off popularity poll for the year but quickly becomes another chapter in what is a growing list of shows highlighted and recommended by the community.

Nit Ducky said it wasn't anime, therefore shouldn't be included, lol.

Cornbread thinks he's doing the AOTY thread?

Quru said he wasn't going to do it, so I threw my name out there... Anyone else want to do it?

[Yuri on Ice] - 7 a.k.a the suffering continues

I guess it was nice that we got to learn a little bit more about each of Yuri's rival skaters this week but it still seems that we've only gained a very shallow understanding of them. I'm not still not convinced that the show spent its time wisely by devoting so much time to all of them.

Despite my interest in seeing less time spent skating last week, I actually felt the way the episode handled its core character moments for Yuri and Viktor worked quite well. Yuri could have monologued forever before getting out on the ice to air his feelings but instead we got a steady visual build-up and a more "realistic" short explosion.

A pure guess would be that the show will return to Christophe, Phichit and Georgi, but I don't see how the storyline can have enough time for them; there's a bunch of other skaters we've not even met yet according to the show's website.

Beyond that, the struggle to make this series is real. You can feel it grow, week by week, especially when we've had back to back episodes composed of almost nothing but skating.

This is why we need a downtime episode!!!! My minor concern is actually the show has nowhere planned to develop the central characters further (particularly given the ending of this episode which, while delightful in many ways for the kind of show this is, is quite abrupt!) - are we going to find out what really makes these characters tick? Will we go into full cliche territory and have Viktor stop being Yuri's coach for some reason until they make up again and win the final?

- Unlike last week, they couldn't even finish corrections on Yuri's big skating finale.

I didn't really notice this; I thought we'd already seen this routine (it's where Yuri gets particularly "noodly" in his proportions).

- The amount of recycled reaction footage in this episode was shocking. They cut away to same loop of crowd clapping about 5 times. Yes, audience reaction footage is largely recycled in any tv anime production because that stuff is hard to produce but it shouldn't be so painfully obvious.

I would probably have never noticed this if it hadn't been for you mentioning it but it is SO incredibly obvious. They did go to the effort of mirroring the shot once, and one time they didn't show the full animation loop of them clapping!

Twin Star Exorcists ep.32

Not sure what to think about this episode really. It was half flashback and half cryptic set-up for future events. Ether way it looks like Benio and Rokuro are getting closer to a true ship here soon, but we'll see...

He said it wasn't animation, not that it wasn't anime.

Word play now, huh?

We'll have to get an official ruling from him on it, lol.

The final scene makes me question the social norms of YoI world, to be honest.

The anime was always super gay, but teh gay always either between two characters in private or could be played as a joke (Drunk Victor molesting Yuri), on other hand
two dudes making out out of nowhere in front of everyone and the cameras
should raise a few eyebrows.

It's the kind of scene I would expect on the last episode, so they wouldn't have to deal with the aftermath. It will be interesting to see if the next episode will actually address it or they'll sweep under the rug. ("It happened, but let's not discuss it and move along")

On the other hand it's been a fantastic year for me in regards to watching animated movies on the big screen, Belladonna, The Red Turtle, Marnie, all fantastic. To think that I was questioning whether or not to go see these! I'll be seeing Your Name this Saturday to cap it off, heh I wonder how that'll go.

My top 5 currently:

1. Mob Psycho 100
2. Kiznaiver
3. 91 Days
4. Flying Witch
5. Bungou Stray Dogs

Kiznaiver and 91 Days are so close to each other that I might switch the two depending how I feel. If Bungou holds up well to the end, it could possibly stay put while Euphonium is likely going to come in and bump out Flying Witch then to #6.

Not sure if I want to count Luluco being a short series, and Thunderbolt Fantasy is not really an anime in the end, so honorable mention for that one and possibly Luluco.

Edit: Actually I wondering about split cour like Bungou. Does the vote go to the series as a whole, or each season? I guess the series as a whole probably since both cour are in the same year.

Persona 5 delayed, US release to have dual audio. How long until the half dozen anime adaptations and spin offs?

All I know is that Mob Psycho, Haikyuu, Gintama, Rakugo, and JoJo will be high on my list. Haven't really thought much past that.

Angry Grimace

Two cannibals are eating a clown. One turns to the other and says "does something taste funny to you?"
Here's hoping we get a PS4 Pro patch.

For what? It looks like a PS3 game, and in fact IS a PS3 game. I mean, that's no big deal for a game like Persona, but I'm struggling to think of what would be better about the game with Pro-enabled options.

If you count full Yaoi as
only sorta showing a kiss
, then yes.

it turned BL mode

I can see smiles from ear to ear on a few members now, lol.

See:
Yuri on Ice 7: omg omg omg omg omg omg omg yessssssssss

Title change needed. Haven't we had more boy x boy kisses than girl x boy and girl x girl now?

Bah, just gives players more time to play Tales of Berseria and watch Tales of Zestiria S2.

Yeah Rakugo really is something else. I don't think anything else really compares.

I can talk about some fun, quirky and weird shows I liked, but I'd rate Rakugo above them all by virtue of how appealing and fresh it was. While most shows I've watched tended to stick to general anime formulas and tropes, Rakugo's execution felt something more along the lines of a stage play or live action movie that happened to be in anime form.

Most anime series nowadays appear to be pretty self-aware of how they're invoking the same setting, characterization and plot tropes ad nauseam, either to play them straight, lampshade them or try to subvert them. In that aspect, Rakugo was like a breath of fresh air amidst a bunch of comical tsunderes, porn with excuse plots or harem series that can be fun, but aren't actually doing all that much in regards with pushing the medium, instead opting for the lazy way out of copying previous works (exhibit A: Magical Girl Raising Project).

Jesus.
Taki-sensei needs to use Heaven's Door and write into Asuka's mom to stop being such a horrible parent.

I'm guessing this arc should fill us in on a lot of Victorica's past and her title of the gray wolf.. Dis could get good.

Eh, I can wait tbh. Now I can play Horizon Zero Dawn on my Pro and enjoy it in all its supersampled glory.

Euphonium S2 - 07

Another full performance. AND DAT SOLO. "Badass" indeed. Feels good man, KyoAni knows how to give me life at the end of a shitty Wednesday.

Excellent escape scene and emotional moment for Victorica. Unfortunately, absolutely nothing was answered, however, Koujo and Victorica had another amazingly cute moment together.

Actually very glad, I really have much I intend to finish before that.

My top 5 list will wait until I finish some stuff I started but Rakugo is still at the top.

Aikatsu! Stars 30

They just giving Koharu the boot cause they couldn't figure out what to do with her. Surprised the Kasumi family doesn't just up and follow her to Italy.

Hime tells Yume about this stupid secret power thing while not actually telling us anything we didn't already know.

Not partiucularly sure what's going on and honestly don't care that much. Just liking the imagery of whats-it world

wwwwworking!!!!!!!

Whats-itkoshi's chocolate being borderline poisonous joke has run its course and then some. Now that she's actually eaten it maybe that'll be the end of it.

They killed it at that competition though. Though I'm wondering what purpose those extra teachers served other than to make Reina wonder if Tski-sensei was taken.

Cardcaptor Sakura 1-22
Why am I watching this instead of reading the damn manga.......I'm already a thirdish the way in so I guess I won't stop and switch formats at this point. Oh yeah the anime, its good and stuff.

I say keep going with the anime it's one of the rare cases where I believe it's the superior version. The way things are structured and how the story flow is just better.

Also the anime ending(the movie)is 10x times better then the manga

I'm slowly remembering the series as you give your episode impressions. While things get drama-heavy at times, it was still palateable, and am glad you're still watching it.

Well, they did add their own non-Taki points of view and way of saying things, and the people in their respective sections appear to be really grateful towards them as well (you'll get to see a glimpse of that in Episode 6). While we don't see them actually doing much on-camera, you can tell the band owed a lot to them during the summer camp.

That kind of stuff is interesting to me, because it shows that things are happening even when they aren't the focus of the story we're being told. Those little details help make the world appear to be lived-in rather than just a place for the protagonists to engage in whatever the story wants them to do, which is really nice.

I wasn't expecting an action episode mixed in here, but the train scenes were pretty well done. I don't like how they are hiding tgr central plot from me though dammit! I want in on everything going on, or why it's all happening!

A month? That can't be right, can it? I know Japanese people are generally like that and that Asuka's persona is extremely tough and withdrawn (and Taki-sensei is pretty much the same way) but an entire month???

But the Pres is right too. The club does kinda lean on Asuka a whole lot.

Apparently it was a mistranslation and it should have been a week, not a month.

i need to get this out of my chest

every episode of yuri on ice is making me internally scream. And the screams get stronger after every episode. GOOOOOOOOOOOOSH

I dont care about Persona 5 getting delayed unless it effects Nier Automata's release window.

Because I will choose Nier over P5.

Ehhhhh idk about this. It's a tough one. NieR is getting a Pro patch too apparently, so supersampled 60fps P* gameplay sure would be a sight to behold. But Persona is... Persona.

How do you know Horizon Zero Dawn wont be delayed...again.

This is true. I sure hope they don't, I'm pretty sure I will have wrapped FFXV up by then, so I'm gonna need something to play.

This episode of Euphonium feels clumsy. I was hoping the Asuka stuff would be handled better than this. Drama is really defining this season of Euphonium and I'm not enjoying it as much as a result.

It's drama on top of drama on top of drama.

Ok, I really needed that injected cuteness into my soul. This is such a funny, fun and relaxing anime to watch! Big sis got involved this time and ever her maternal instincs were going crazy at the cuteness.
