Man that chart is daunting though.

I think he is referring to how everyone and everything is probably totally fucking deader than dead by the end and no one, not even the writers or the audience, would want to spend one more second in that world.

At least that's what I gather from his posts.

The bolded is exactly the way I felt about this relationship, which made watching the second movie extremely painful. In fact, I think the male lead is an even bigger psycho than Shiki, because after all that happened, he's still obsessed with this girl who had no redeeming qualities to begin with.

Your description of part 5 sounds promising.

Part 5 is fucking amazing.

I hope they also improve the battles, in the sense of interesting strategies used and all that. In the original you have roll with the pretense they are tactical geniuses, but the truth is, they don't appear very smart to me.

Yang's strategies rely on winning the fight without a single casualty. Reinhard's strategies rely on crushing the enemy with his superior military cabinet like Reuhntal and Mittermeyer and also being front and center in battles as a beacon of morale. They aren't exceedingly complex or out there but they aren't outside the realm of possibility and never become fantastical.

Also they do take advantage over Space terrain, like Yang using massive ice blocks to destroy Artemis' Necklace and Bucock fighting a battle around a fixed Star. Its not like Yamato where they rely on the extreme overpowering force of a single ship and its mega god cannon (although Iserlohn is kinda close to being that) either but Iserlohn is more like the Panama Canal or Strait of Gibraltar where you only got one way to go, and we have it

If you feel that way, you really should stay away from 7 at all costs. Don't do what I did and finish the fight, because it hurt really, really bad.

Male lead looks like Shaoran. I like Clamp's style. It's not the best, but it's decent.

Watched the first two parts of Kara no Kyoukai. Does this get better? I heard the 5th part is supposed to be decent. Because as of right now, this is quite awful in my opinion.

Part 5 (Paradox Spiral) is goddamn mandatory

I mean the responses in this thread alone should indicate that it's a good ass movie, and even the KnK haters admit that movie is godlike

Wanted to watch it with my brother but he got spoiled on it, rip.

If you're thinking about watching this series I have to recommend you consult the much-referenced Texhnolyze Chart to decide whether you are in the correct emotional state to consume this material. I think the Chart put me off from watching the series originally.

I must confess, it's actually worse than the Chart suggests. You might want to try something more Lighthearted, like Black Mirror's "Fifteen Million Merits", Brexit or the Donald Trump Presidency.

Did you ... did you marathon the whole show within a span of three days ?

Someone call an ambulance.

Man that chart is daunting though.

That chart does not lie. It makes me want to go watch something like Harmony to raise my spirits.

Have you seen the 1st episode though? That's arguably the best directed and most interesting part of the show.

Why are you trying to scare people away from this fine show?

Your Name.

This is a good movie. That alone should be a huge compliment to Shinkai, the person who made a career out of short films exploiting sappy tragic love stories while hammering the audience on the head with themes of connection and distance relationships juxtaposed against scifi/fantasy tales about the perception of time and space. I didn't think he had it in him to make a film which could actually qualify as good, but I guess if you try enough times...

I think what makes it work well this time is how complete the work feels, and how well framed the narrative is. There is an elegance to the storytelling. Sadly Shinkai could not resist his trademark habits of insert song montages. While a couple were effective, after seeing 4-5 of them throughout the film, it loses the effect and just feels like a cheap shortcut to tighten parts of the story without having to fill in more details. Oh and overall the music kinda sucked. Hammy and on the nose, without being particularly memorable or emotionally resonant.

The story was pretty cute. I think the contrast of urban and rural lifestyles, along with male and female behavioral patterns (this was rather shallow though), made the story pretty interesting and helped energize the way it was told. The settings were really pretty, and some of the animation sequences were really stunning. This is also probably the only Shinkai story I can think of with an actual happy ending. Maybe that's why it's actually making money. Lol. I think honestly the story could do with or without the happy ending though. If it had ended a few scenes before, like 5cm did, I would probably still like it as much.

P.S. Wolf Children was still better. Suck it Shinkai. Hosoda's gonna eat you alive next year. :p

It's gonna be Oscar-worthy, am I right?

:p

Any other good anime series or films very similar to Your Name
One that also has a
a happy ending?

Work is extremely stressful at the moment so im looking for something that can be a little heavy but swings back to a feel good ending by the end.

Anyone?

The more I sit on it the more I like it.
Even elements I thought were initially silly
like drinking the shrine maiden spit sake section
I have come around to.

Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V Episode 3

Shiunin Sora appeared this early, I didn't even realize.

I always enjoy seeing a Sakaki Yuuya who is stunned, this time when others can also Pendulum summon.

I still like the preduel speech and posing.

Some of Yang's victories are pretty fantastical, but mostly in the "I can accurately predict how everyone is going to act in every scenario" sort of way.

Most people probably won't even highlight those spoilers as the western releases barely began.

Does that mug look not happy to you ?

On another note, I'm not sure if the general reception of that ending: depressing shit, et consortes isn't missing the point at least a bit. Which judging by Ichise's monologue was that his growth, his fight that took place across those 22 episodes wasn't meaningless at. As such , to amateurishly dabble in philosophy for a short moment that end strikes me as something more out of The Myth of Sysyphus rather than the straight on nihilism, the struggle itself is victory,
despite the futility of it all.

Drink it in people. This is likely to be the best mahou shoujo we'll get until Ikuhara decides to make another show.

One of my favorite Yang plans is sending a fake message to move out of Iserlohn as opposed to Reinhard's message to stay in Iserlohn, but later its revealed that both the messages were fake and in that situation its natural to think one is the fake and not both

Soukyuu no Fafner: Dead Aggressor: Exodus - Episode 1

Damn, that was good. Some of the CG isn't quite as detailed or sharp as Heaven and Earth, and the animation doesn't have that extra layer of polish, but that's all to be expected. The production values are still good, and damn the backgrounds, effects, UI, and photography are top notch.

The 15 minute opening sequence was just brutal stuff. Saving Private Ryan with mechs. I'm impressed with how much the direction and choreography in Fafner has improved over a decade. Wouldn't have imagined anything like this at all from watching the original series. The action is clear and grounded, yet it captures the visceral impact of war so well. The bleak hopelessness is effective and painful, and even though it's hard to agree with the choices made at the end of the mission, it's totally understandable. But it's not just war porn here, the entire sequence serves as a very interesting lead-in to the major new mystery element which will no doubt be a big part of what is to come.

And after that impressive opening set piece, we move right back to the island and see how much the characters have grown in 2-3 years after Heaven and Earth. It's really nice to see how much effort to make the returning cast feel like they are really moving forward and not static characters immune to the passage of time. I love it when shows do that well. Minashiro Stew >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Akira Curry. Suck it, loser. I'm surprised Sakura doesn't have a kid yet though. Either Kenji really sucks at this relationship thing, or the island hates her. RIP. Seeing them explore Miwa's abilities and how they can influence the coming events is neat too, since it makes the stuff explored in Heaven and Earth more relevant. The end of the episode is definitely very intriguing.

Most important of all...... MONOLOGUE NARRATIONS ARE BACK! Thx Soshi! <3

My name is Minashiro Soushi.
By the time you listen to this, I am probably no longer in this world.
Y-yeah, I sure am glad they're back.

I am glad seeing more people enjoy Exodus it in the year after it finished though. There were so few commenting on it while it was airing.

You know what? Fuck it. I'm not even going to try. Just watch Sword of the Stranger anyway. It's nothing like Your Name, but it's awesome and should make you feel good anyway. If you have seen it before, just watch it again!

Sword of the Stranger is always the right answer.

And guys, thanks for the answers regarding Kara no Kyoukai. I now know what I'm getting myself into, which makes it infinitely easier to enjoy it :D

It's amazing that despite how much vastly better later entries in the Fafner franchise are, most of the same staff is from the original. Habara is still in the director seat. Noto worked on the original. Ubukata obviously is still there. Same color design people too. It goes to show how even the impact of a small number of individuals can have a drastic impact on a show. The new art directors, Suzuki and Kohama, and photography director, Aoki, produced a vastly different anime visually. It's almost unbelievable that a series that started out producing shots like this:
would eventually pump out shots like this:

Yea the first fifteen minutes blew me back as an opener in how well it depicted the desperation of the outside world and how terrible this war is for most of humanity. It does a great job of establishing the mindsets for a lot of the Neo-UN characters which is important going forward. There aren't many grounded war anime being produced nowadays and I thought this scratched that itch for me despite it having aliens and mechs.

Also that piano solo leading to the title was goddamn magnificent.

Can't really think of anything that has all the elements, depends on what elements you want :p

Yeah I certainly know one im not in the mood to watch.

Clannad/Clannad After story.
Seen it.

Thats one of the things I really liked about it was the vibes I felt from it really reminded me of some of my favorite anime
Higurashi no Naku
Steins;Gate
Clannad After Story
Amagami SS(the good arcs)
and a few others.

Is that why it took so long to get Exodus?

While the Umineko adaptation only covers half of the story and makes a couple of mistakes, you might want to check it out anyway since it's the next work of Higurashi's author. Then, if you like it, I'd advise reading the later chapters in VN form (there's a voice patch for the originals, at least).

Fate/ Kaleid Season 1 - 4

Either i'm rotten to the core or i have a really good stomach

I'll be honest and say that i enjoyed the show even though there were instances were i was ready to drop it ( u know wich scenes) , but i persevered and it all payed off.

Aside from the obvious Lolicon pandering i'll say the show is pretty good when it wants to be, that being said there was to many fillers, Season 2 in particular was a bunch on nonsense happening without advancing the plot and so it was season 3.

Season 4 remains the best because of all of the action and plot twist throw at the expectator.

If anyone ever wants to see this show i'll recomend to just watch season 1 , Season 2 from episode 8 onwards , Season 3 from 7 onwards and the hole season 4.

p.s: Fuck the kissins scenes

- Kanon(2006)

- Little Busters gave me this vinevas well, but it is about friendship, no "romance," but still an amazing ending that gives you that same feeling.

- Kimikiss Pure Rough.

I'll think of a couple more shortly:

- Itazura na Kiss
- Cross Game
- Emma a Victorian Romance
- Full Moon wo Sagashite
- Golden Time
- The "Hentai" Prince and the Stony Cat
- A Lull in the Sea
