[Yuri on Ice] - 8]

For the last few weeks I've had the exact same problem with this series - it devotes a lot of time to shallow side characters and their performances while the supposed development of the main character feels as thin as ever. The series is clearly more concerned with wall-to-wall skating porn than building and developing the main characters and their relationships.

I suppose none of this really matters if you're only looking to enjoy the show's superficial elements but beyond that it lacks the depth and plotting of even the most route shounen sports series.
Dunno i thought this week's skates were decent. Cup china was atrocious.

This is true. All of this week's sequences looked at least 'okay', none of them were awful.
duck you have to promise me you'll give me a heads up when you start watching episode 9 of Exodus

same

Yeah, it was renamed to Evangelion 3.0+1.0.

Then cancelled.

Wait it was cancelled?

Once upon a time I was falling in love
But now I've only fallen apart
There's nothing left to do
Anime was shit from the start

Uh...randomly joining the thread as I'm enjoying Yaoi Yuri on Ice a lot. I'm like THE target audience of this show.
You wouldn't want to be in the same room as me and my like-minded friends when we watch it.

I've fallen off the anime bandwagon but Yuri on Ice has brought me back from the dead! :D

Anyway, I agree with previous posters that Ep. 8 is the weakest ep so far. As I thought, it's really tough to outdo Ep. 7, which knocked it out of the ballpark. Ep. 8's ending is totally flat and the stakes are way too low.

And by the way despite being a fujoshi I maintain that it was all camera tricks and they did not kiss. Love the ambiguousness of it though!

Soukyuu no Fafner: Dead Aggressor: Exodus - Episode 6-7

Good stuff. Solid action. Bad shit finally happening. Feels like everyone just made a deal with the devil unknowingly. Not more much to say, but it looks like shit is going to hit the fan soon.

AnimeGaf bout to be on suicide watch due to excessive Texhnolyze consumption. What show would push you over the edge?
Elfien Lied or War in the Pocket on Christmas?

Speaking of, Ghost Hound feels like my own personal purgatory atm. Fuck it sucks.

---------------------

Was thinking of finishing the few shows i missed this year. Whats the up and under on:

The show with the blue haired girl(does it at least have a decent stopping point?)
The show about BONES superheroes that looks like a pack of highlighters exploded on screen
The show with puppets

Assuming that Euphonium S2 ends at the Nationals, will that be as far as things go in terms of content to be adapted?

I haven't been digging this season as much as the first - I think I've made that perfectly clear, heh - but I'll still be sad to see it go.

Pretty sure S2 concludes the novels.

Curses.

Ah well. If nothing else, I don't think an anime series has quite inspired my passion to write like this one has for a very long time - regardless of whether I'm focusing on the pros and cons.

Let's hope the final few episodes make for an effective send-off.

Speaking of Euphonium S2, I dropped it.
S2 is just boring. If enough people recommand it, I might pick it back up, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Yeah it's dull.

Even if Phantom World was gutter trash at least it was entertaining.

I felt it tried to do too many different things at once (fighting against phantoms, characters getting along with each other, blatant fanservice), and did none of them right. It never felt like a good "characters with special abilities" show, a good supernatural SoL nor a good trashy fanservice show. Then there was that antagonist that loved to take other characters' mana, and a really dumb final battle that was resolved in an equally random way.

Like, KonoSuba was actually entertaining, while MCPW was like a really bad series that just happened to get a whole lot of polish.

Which episode did you stop at? I would recommend watching until episode 5 at the very least if you had stopped before that.

Sorry did you saying something?

Precisely.

If I wanted smut I'd much rather watch stuff such as TLR:D or even (the other) HxH than this. The worldbuilding was subpar, the character arcs almost nonexistent, and all the show did was give us catgirls, bunny little sisters, limboing (heh), mana sharing, ass-painting to entice a monkey, the MC turning into a kid with the big-breasted girl going big sis mode as she took care of him...

It was like the show always pretended it had some semblance of a plot, but it always turned out to be awfully random, and not in the nice way like in Space Dandy or Flip Flappers (sans the McGuffin gathering subplot). Oh, and I also remember something about a later novel making all we saw into some kind of illusion, with the real world being a post-apocalyptic mess or something.

Why? D:

I do like some ecchi, but seeing fanservice in both Flip Flappers and Izetta this season makes me kind of sad.
Like, I already have Seitokaichou for that.
I don't mind it in Flip Flappers since there is probably a reason for it, but Izetta it only seems to be there, because they think that witch vs notnazis isn't a good enough hook.

Haly

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.

You're right. I was too harsh on Phantom World. It gave me everything I wanted except for the gays.

Good thing this season is ultra gay.

Isekai Izakaya "Nobu" anime announced.

Imagine there is a bar with many weird kind of food and drink that might bring you to another world! The bar, so-called “Nobu” is located in a alley of the old city Aiteria. At the very first step, diners feels like falling into another completely country, with cold, super cool beer, so-called “toriaezu Nama”!

I still haven't watched Flip Flappers since those scenes in ep.3. Sounds like it hasn't been worse than that, so I'll pop it back on and watch more at sone point.

Happy Turkey day to all you celebratin' peeps.

Soukyuu no Fafner: Dead Aggressor: Exodus - Episode 8

Wow, they spent an entire episode on the preparation for the launch. Don't see pacing like this very often in mecha shows anymore. Good stuff. Looks like the next episode is going to be a big one?

Gonna burn some stamina in Terra Battle before watching 9.

Phantom World was actually quite good from I believe episode 7 or 8 to the end, so the very last arc that strayed away from the show's episodic nature, telling us about Akihiro's past. I remember saying though, that the show was not worth watching just to get to that part. Didn't feel like anything much that we haven't seen before on an emotional level, and to be quite frank, one shouldn't have to wait for more than half of the entire's show length to get to its meat and potatoes. Apparently this was pulled straight from the LNs, whereas the whole show prior was all original content. I also remember someone telling me the LNs go full wacko after the ending point of the anime, with some crazy Inception shit happening.

Eupho 2 is basically just melodrama that no one signed up for. It existed in Season 1 to an extent, but it was simply there to show us the struggle that it was for these teens to keep practicing in order to get to the finals. This season however, although it does have a more grandiose end-goal, is just riddled with drama that has absolutely nothing to do with the multiple chatacters' growth, and feels only crammed in just so that Kumiko somehow solves it. It feels forced, shoved in. The product is beautiful, direction is hit and miss, but ultimately I just don't give a flying fuck about these "dramatic" subplots.

The original Sound Euphonium novel was published in 2013. The second and third novels in the series, which this current season is adapting, were published in 2015 to coincide with the airing of the first anime season. That says it all, really.

Yeah you are right. But hey, I may just be in the minority, or maybe it's because I've watched so much anime doing these things that Eupho is doing now to death, but they are running the show to the ground plot-wise. Every week, Eupho 2 keeps going lower and lower on my list for the season (still not lower than O;9 mind you lol). I appreciate the artwork, but its boring, predictable plot structure is definitely affecting the whole product for me.

I actually really liked the first arc, which I know a lot of people didn't, but the last couple of weeks have definitely been on the weaker end of the spectrum.

I'm still really enjoying the show for the most part, but I hope that the remaining episodes get away from some of the material that has dragged things down recently. There's just not enough going on to really care about Mamiko at all, and Asuka's storyline feels too heavy-handed to me.
