Looked okay, apart from this shot:

I can't handle how unbalanced the frame is!

It bothers me that the left side is unused.

Sakura Quest and Eccentric Family 2 both start in April.

Rip PA works

This will be the first time PA Works has had two productions airing at the same time, which I suppose is just another sign of the increasing bloat of anime productions. Eccentric Family will probably be OK - the first season was exceptionally well planned and I would hope the second season would have similar dedication behind it. I wonder if Toshiyuki Inoue will show up again - he's still friendly with P.A. Works since he showed up on the beginning of Kuromukuro. Perhaps he and Yoshiura both moved over to the production of Eccentric Family as soon as their bit of work on that show was finished. Sakura Quest is probably destined for mediocrity however; Masui isn't a great director to begin with.

Man...I am starting to like the show a bit too much for how simple and dumb the show is. Also, few more gag parody which based on a horror movie.

?????????????

It looks like an expensive production to me. The actual quality of the product given the director and the studio is another matter. I don't expect it to be particularly good. But what about it looks "bad" in terms of production? It retains a lot of the trademark Minaba art style in the shading and colors, which is something important for Granblue fans. This in turn probably makes it pretty hard on the finishing staff. If this were a cheap project, it wouldn't look like this, it would look like Xenosaga the Animation. Getting delayed is also a sign that the production is well funded and the sponsors are more interested in releasing something when it is ready rather than rushing it for a date. They still have January blocked for an hour long special, so they're paying for those slots as well.

Just because MAPPA has a bunch of talented animators and have the resources to put them all on their biggest budget project, doesn't mean the same applies to A-1. I would not be surprised if Granblue has more funding than Bahamut, especially given how the series is going to be twice as long too (right?), but keep in mind the best -animation- staff which A-1 can get are probably all busy right now working on the Sword Art Online movie.

Oh, yeah, I wasn't saying GBF was a cheap project, it just doesn't look very good from what I've seen, for something Aniplex seems to be betting big on. Toshifumi Akai's take on character design looks nothing like Minaba's art imo (MC looks straight out of im@s). I don't know where the 48 episodes rumor came from but nothing has been confirmed. The story in the game is far from over so I don't know how much they want to adapt.

I also kinda suspect they're waiting for Keiji Fujiwara to recover and reprise his role (he's voicing one of the main characters). Has that ever happened in the anime industry?

Ufotable's Touken Ranbu is directed by Toshiyuki Shirai. Directorial debut for the Ufotable animator who has been rising within the company as a storyboarder and episode director. Music is by the dude who did UBW.

Is Shirai any good? Not that I really care; it'll probably be a mindnumbingly self-serious show with polished but intrusive digital effects like all Ufotable productions seem to be these days.

Starts in July btw. Forgot to mention.

Back in Fate/Zero he was still just an animation director. He started doing directing with UBW and ToZ. Ask people who watched those how his episodes were!

He storyboarded and directed episodes 5, 12, and 24 of UBW.
He co-directed episodes 5 and and 9 of God Eater but no storyboarding.
He storyboarded and directed episode 9 of ToZ, and storyboarded episodes 4 and 10.

I can't wait for the day Takashi Suhara gets to direct something at Ufotable. I hope it's a movie. Give him the last Heaven's Feel movie. :D

If Cygames is pumping money into the Granblue anime, it sure isn't reflected by the final product. Every facet (besides the coloring I guess) looks mediocre even by A1 standards. It doesn't look like a project that had a long and well formed production schedule behind it, either that or is this the limit of the animators themselves. Even besides the animation, the post production doesn't look as good as the work on Bahamut.

Is Granblue going to be 50 episodes? As Bahamut is confirmed for two cours apparently.

You can't just buy your way to quality if you don't get quality people! Akai's designs always look like they're from Idolmaster or Horiguchi imitations, by the way.

Hm... Wouldn't they possibly have more to gain if Sakura Quest is a hit? Dunno how the production committees looks like though.

Occultic;Nine END
I'm not really sure what just happened but I guess everyone but
Gama was sent back in time and revived, but Gama stayed in the spiritual world with his father?
The series was ok in the end, but that opening episode shoukd have been two episodes to explsin things more clearly.

Is that really the case? I'd say the production values of Granblue look better than those of, say, UtaPri or Working or Interviews with Monster Girls. Not as good as Occultic;Nine, but then that's on the high end of A1 productions.

It's kind of hard to compare Interviews or Working because those take place in a modern setting and it's a lot easier to have gorgeous nature backgrounds than something breathtaking in a modern school or urban sprawl (although KyoAni and Pablo manage it). There's really nothing though in the second PV that really elevates it besides maybe the backgrounds but I would have to see more of those as I have my concerns about that as well.

Girlish Number 12 - And it ends. I guess an open ending was to be expected. After all its based on a book series that I think is unfinished. I did half expect it to end with Chitose retiring.

Sound! Euphonium! 2.13 - A nice end, even if a lot of it was montages. But I guess to be expected with a epilogue. Continue to be surprised how much my feelings for Yuuko have turned around from her first appearance. With just a bunch of short stories left, I guess that's it.

Feels weird actually going into the backlog and cleaning it up a lil instead of keeping it a colossal behemoth.

DENKI-GAI [END]

Am I too immature if I laughed hard at this?

Honestly I expect this to be a lot worse. The first episode starts off as being very "Working!!" like with it being a lot about the misgivings of retail work with some humour, but that quickly changes from episode 2 onward (As in it gets kinda weird and insane sometimes). A lot of the crazy bits are used as metaphors and hyperbole which is a nice touch imo. Honestly though, most of the workers here would have gotten fired due to sexual harassment long ago lol.

Art is a bit hit or miss, but the scenarios and characters are actually pretty well done. The show has a lot of similarities to something like working!! or even Nozaki-kun, but isn't quite on that level though. Basically think of Working!! but set in an otaku store and most of the topics talked about involve porn. Its still a damn fun time full of wtf moments and some legitamate laughs though and I'm glad I gave this a shot. For the most part, the characters are arc do a good job with some characters breaking out of conventional trope roles in pretty funny ways (like how the "loli-highschool" character has a freakish love for zombie media) and the "Ero-Gman" character was pretty much a joy to watch anytime she was on screen. Though the "Sensei"'s character arc and scenerios felt kinda off compared to how the rest of the show handles things. The romantic subplots aren't tied together fully (despite being well developed imo) so that bums me out hard.

Sometimes a joke comes from out of left field and you don't know how to respond. Results may vary.

I wish I was better at giving a proper opinion about shows sometimes, but I guess I'll say this:
Tentative Recommendation: If you like working!! and Nozaki-kun and would be fine watching something that wasn't quite as good and was more flowing with perverse jokes and subject matter, give this one a shot. I got some legit good laughs out of this even if the show has some flaws.

I'm not sure what to think about this yet, but that was pretty fun. The MC is an idiot, but this could get interesting. I'm all for fantasy anime, so this is right up my alley.

The show should have just been episodic adventures with the two leads. The main story arc was kind of a mess after halfway through.

That said, I enjoyed it throughout for what it was.

Garo ended up being this show, but better in every way.

Personally, this is one of my favorite first episodes in any anime.

The series as a whole doesn't quite live up to that promise, but it's a very fun fantasy adventure.

OK, that final episode was dope as fu(k!

I realize they are going to reset the clock on the final 4 episodes that went completely rogue from the main storyline, but they were pretty fun to watch. I'm hyped to watch season 2 next week now and can't wait to see where they head with the story. One of those two has to land the blond girl (I'm guessing Rin takes the sensei route for cans woman!)

Either way, that was awesome to watch visually and the story made sense after the awful transitions earlier.

At least the filler end was unintentionally hilarious. Now you know the origin of "Satan did nothing wrong" or "Satan was a good guy."

:lol

One of these shows will probably get the shaft. RIP

Seems unnecessary too but the anime industry seems set on a suicide course now.

Well with no winter shows I'd hope they would get one of em mostly done. Hopefully Eccentric Family has gad plenty of time with it being a single novel that's been in the can for ages.

Ghost In The Shell 1995

Coming from Westworld last week I can see how the creators of that show used GITS for a lot of inspiration for the theme of self-identity and awareness in a technologically advanced world and even some scenes on there
for instance the robots' skin being made of a liquid that they are submerged in
.

Good animation quality from back in the day is a sight to behold. The fluidity between frames and the amount of detail put into these shots and choreography is staggering.

Cinematography is also really good, the setting and artwork at display are impressive. Plenty of imagery and symbolism are used throughout the movie as well which I appreciate. Oh and the soundtrack... so good!

Ok, that was pretty good as well. The MC is still an idiot douche, so watching him fail at life should be fun. It helps that the show looks really nice and the action sequences are well done as well.

Just watched it again. These feels lol. Now I'm rekt. @_@

I was expecting 5 cm per second to destroy me like Anohana or something but it didn't. Episode 1 was fine but the latter ones were a bit weaker. Overall ok, just an anime about real life.....if that makes sense lol

It's only kinda sad if I compare it to mine :'v

Nice. I just watched this last week and really enjoyed it as well. I said the same thing about the way it looked for an "older" anime. Good stuff.

True, like Kyubey, Satan did nothing wrong...

Personally, this is one of my favorite first episodes in any anime.

That's all I really want out of it, so that's music to my ears.

I agree. Anohana, Clannad, Air, Kanon and Plastic Memories all hit a little harder with the emotional side. Shit, even Angel Beats did and that was more rushed.

5cm does a great job of evoking emotion through ambiance, atmosphere and art.
