Avowed: Less Diet Skyrim and more Skyrim Zero

It appears to me those purple hair modern writers are simply incapable of producing anything memorable and profound. All they consumed was the tacky marvel quips, therefore all they can output is the cringy banters.
They view all stories through this postmodernist intersectional lens. The only thing they see is oppressor vs oppressed, punching up vs punching down, etc.

Half these people have absolutely no idea what made classic stories so memorable and classic to begin with (universal themes like the hero’s journey and good vs evil).

The other half do understand that stuff, and they hate it and think it’s their job to demolish and subvert it.

The art director does seem like a person who loves blow dicks, especially Elon's

What is that around their neck??

Edit: Wait, you mean to tell me that people actually go out with what Im guessing is a handkerchief around their necks? When did this happen?

Im not one to knock some fashion choices, but wtf? I dont think i could help myself with laughing.

I've been playing outer worlds and I don't think that's a bad game by obsidian like 6/10. But the lack of romance, the choices aren't really scary too me, the characters are decent but its like forced platonic stale relationships with people.

Outer worlds come across very Bland, and it makes me nervous about what Avowed is going to be. Cause i wanted to experience a Obsidian game and the world could be a lot better.

Its just weird to go from Baldurs Gate 3 and be afraid of any choice you make, because the world is that interactive with your decisions how you navigate the world/relationships.....then play Outer worlds which has none of these things.

For a "modern audience" who needs the game world to know your pronouns. Nah, I'm good.

But I see you played Hogwarts legacy

Obsidian is full of scarf boys like him. It's going to be an RPG dominated by girl bosses, diversity adventurers and cringe writing. It will be next to impossible to immerse yourself in the world. It will feel like you are role playing in a fantasy San Francisco. Mark my words.

I'm keeping receipts, for again pointing fingers at this brainrot youtuber mentality dooming games for the most benign of fucking reasons and then end up with a good game with no goddamn controversy. (oh we had an example not long ago..)

You guys would have burned Hogwarts Legacy and Baldur's Gate 3 at the stake before even seeing a review if they had come in 2025.

yes, give me random shit to do in a large area. If an RPG is 40hrs long youre doing something wrong
I mean you can 100% South Park Stick of Truth in about 10 hours and that RPG was awesome.

I love a long RPG too, but the more important part is what they do with the time. I’ll take a condensed game over a bloated overlong one.

Where Bethesda approaches fantasy with a furrowed brow, Obsidian opts for a more irreverent tone. Its banter levels land somewhere between Guardians of the Galaxy and 2023’s Dungeons & Dragons film – which will be off-putting for people for whom the Avengers style of dialogue has not so much soured as entirely curdled. It’s the companions and their personalities that will make or break it.

Was looking forward to it but Marvel like banter is a huge turnoff. Guardians of the Galaxy is the worst fucking thing to happen to the entertainment industry.
The first GOTG movie was good though... lol. I didn't hate the sequels but they did not match the feeling of the first. Anyway, it just depends on how they do it. If they can match GOTG in spirit while still being fresh, they will be fine. If they try to match and fail, then yeah, it will be cringy and turn people off, as it has already with other products that failed to re-create what the first GOTG did.

EDIT

Somewhat unrelated, but has started to bother me. People complain to the moon about walking sections where the characters discuss things which is usually simplified as "walking simulators" when being critiqued but have no problem whatsoever with stupid dialogue chains – which I should start simplifying as "dialogue simulators"? Like, let's just get to the point man. Why do I need to pretend to have a conversation with a game character?

Although i have to say this makes it sound like a bag of shit, I couldn't think of anything worse.

But the piece is the Guardian so i'd rather listen to my Mrs opinion. The jury is out.

So one of the main selling points is the companions and dialogue, as opposed to pure exploration? Considering GotG type banter got old about 10 Marvel films ago and the writing is probably made "for modern audiences," I'm going to stay as far as possible away from this one.

I’m taken aback by just how fun and breezy it is
The last piece of media that reviewers called "breezy" was:

I was ready to write this off but my boy Morty did a fantastic breakdown of what he played and it sounds kinda good. Who gives a shit what The Guardian has to say.

Mortismal had Dragon Age the Veilgaurd as his Game of the Year, until Indy came out. His opinion is null and void.

That style of dialog fit the tone of a wacky irreverent comic book movie about a dude living in extended adolescence.

But a) it’s beyond played out now and b) it’s the last fucking thing I’d want in a game set in the Pillars of Eternity universe.

Yeah, I get it. I was just saying that the reason it might seem overplayed is that the ones that tried to copy it just did a poor job (most examples) and if done well, might not be so bad, but yeah it might just be overplayed. They'll need to find a way to stand out, find their own voice if they are going for that.

I absolutely LOVE contemporary banter in my medieval swords and magic game!

James Gunn has done an immeasurable amount of damage to the entertainment industry.

^ this guy did a great job explaining why this style of dialog ruins the mood so badly. He was talking about ME Andromeda which came out almost 8 years ago, but it could just as easily apply to so much of the crap coming out today.

Buggy Loop Buggy Loop the problem with taking the time out to post evidence and data is that it's all just chip damage to their stance. They will ignore all of it and repeat talking points. It's why I pretty much stopped doing what you're doing.

Just keep in mind how much of your own personal time you're using to do this.

eh

As much times as peoples regurgitating the same woke/purple/DEI agenda from youtube grifters. I'm chilling at home, too lazy to start a PC game while kids are around, typing on neogaf with the TV in background. It's chill. What would I post about anyway? Anything typed on this forum is ultimately a waste of time.

I didn't find the purple images above again, I had done that over a month ago.

But you're right, these peoples do not put the effort to even see the argument.

Just like I know most haven't watched the uncut 90 mins of preview captures footage. Like which company even allows that nowadays? Typically its curated footage sent by marketing team and that's the reel of footage you can use for your preview, every media having the same footage. In those 90 mins of footage, there's nothing fucking woke. But you know, like Indiana Jones "for modern audience", we'll come full circle in February with peoples realizing this was an imaginary war. One loonie fuck in a company is not representative of anything. These aren't indie teams of a dozen where the influence would be palpable, there's layers and layers of peoples taking decisions in meetings about direction the game will go.
