Back in March, why was complete isolation of every single person in usa consider impossible to kill off covid 19?

Plenty of people have responded to you. I responded to you. I will do it again. What would “total isolation” look like? It would be locking people in their homes and having the army monitor the streets 24/7, shooting and killing everyone who steps out. If somebody dies in your home in that time then you have to live inside with the corpse for the lockdown time. If you run out of food then you starve to death. If the power/water/etc. fail in that time, and it will (as the average person has no idea of the continuous daily maintenance these infrastructures require), then you’re living in the dark or you will die of thirst. If you give people “ample warning” it will cause an insane run on stores, there will not be enough food on the shelves for 320 million panicked people to stock up, and the virus will spread like crazy in that ”ample warning” time.

Obviously this is something that is completely insane and untenable. Maybe if it was something like Super Smallpox some stricter lockdown than we did could be considered, but this. Is. The. Flu.

You are talking about singular cases. There always will be people who have fucked up immune system. The only reason you don't get disease twice is because your immune system works and remembers that disease. If your immune system like in case of cancer treatment is shot then you will repeat that disease as many times as you caught it.

Immunity doesn’t last forever.
There are a ton of articles on this and it likely varies from person to person.

One thing at the forefront is there would be open and widespread defiance to such a demand/request. People would feel their freedoms are being trampled on, because they are being told to stay in their house the majority of a lengthy period of time. Covid-19 propagates and continues to live on.

Another is being forced to isolate oneself at home for a month could lead to frustration and mental fatigue. A great deal of people have the innate desire to move around and be out of the house. Others have a lust to see the world even if that world only include their small town/large city.

It just wouldn't be effective. You would need a telepathic hive mind that transcends all emotional reaction and is driven by pure logic and complete agreement to every little thing brought up in the hive mind consciousness. Such a thing is science fiction for now at least, so it seems majorly improbable that everyone would ever agree to stay in their homes for 4 weeks willingly and not violate such an order.
Sound like heaven to me. I only go outside the past few month only when absolutely necessary for 2 things, work and food. Why would people even want to go outside anyway... are they idiot? I think it is more like majority of the country is completely unwilling to sacrifice anything for the greater good of the society.

No offence taken but Americans are stupid. Their more concerned about their rights than wearing a fuckn mask. Hell they think if they wear a mask America is invoking Shariah Law on them.

You can't tell everybody to stay home, hospital workers have to go to work, police officers have to go to work, firefighters, paramedics, energy providers, etc.
In my country we shut down everything but other than what was considered essential workers such as those listed above and the count dropped significantly and has stayed below 10 active cases for months

Because people are stupid.

No offence taken but Americans are stupid.

Rather, it's that they're too smart. The intelligent response to any new claim, such as "it's too dangerous to be out in public right now and we must isolate everyone at home," is not to accept it unquestioningly but to demand further justification.

Now, even if we grant that the justification provided was completely sufficient (and note, the findings on coronavirus have bounced around wildly -- it's a novel virus, after all), in any situation where persuasion is at play some are going to be convinced and some won't. You will never achieve 100% agreement on anything through persuasion (or perhaps through any other mechanism).

It's American intelligence, combined with a reluctance to enforce the recommendations autocratically -- and this no result of stupidity either, but of a long history of limits on government -- that resulted in an imperfect lockdown.

However, Americans did actually cooperate with the recommendations to a remarkable degree for several weeks. I've seen more than one article commenting on how unexpected the degree U.S. compliance was. Again, intelligence produces unpredictable results.

I kind of agree usa in general was doing an ok job back in March-May but once shelter at home being to ease people start acting like idiot again and go out to party and drinks.

Americans need to ignore scientists and start coughing on each other, this virus can't kill freedom right? Only the strongest and best Americans will survive, if you don't survive then you were probably Mexican. -Fox News

Nah they stupid as fuck, esp with the argument of "its my right to get sick" and them acting like wearing a mask is the government forcing shariah law on them. They act oppressed but its the dumbest thing to come on the tv.

so just to be clear you also mean shutting down every power plant, hospital, food distribution plant, public utlities and.. well everything.

So people who didnt have enough food in their house.. die

People who needed hospital care... die

People will be without clean running water... so they'll get sick and could die

No police, so no one will be enforcing this.. so people will break it and spread it or rape and muder and steal unchecked

See the problem?

That's the problem with America though, every single dumbass retail company got loopholes to be considered "essential" so still like 40-60% of alot of workforces were still active leading to still to much interaction. Your store sells vacuums? Essential cause people need to clean. Sell pots and pans? Essential, people need to eat. Clothes? Yup Essential. America only cares about their economy and bottom dollar, not a single human in this country.

If america cared about their economy they'd wear masks and take social distancing seriously so they could ACTUALLY reopen and not risk closing againp

LOL that's not the way it works, and not the way it is going to work.

NY has had mass mask wearing and social distancing culture since April and they're keeping a lot of shit closed, on a whim. This idea that these evil politicians will give us our economy back if only we do what they say is baloney.

Japan is more densly populated than the states and other than shutting down for a little bit their numbers dropped drastically until us soldiers stationed at Okinawa went to the main land without wearing masks and infected because my rights and started a shit ton new cases there on during the 4th of july, so yes its that fucking easy and it can be done with masks and social distancing, you just need an actual population that cares about doing it.

I presented you a population that cares about doing it, and the politicians are still arbitrarily swinging around their dicks. It's not about masks, it's about power and control. I knew early on they were not going to let go of this power easily and now we are seeing it.

There keeping lots closed because do you not see whats happening to the rest of the country, ALL of JAPAN was under control, your talking one state out of how many that just had cases boom. They are remaining shut now still because if people come and get infected they'll have to do it all over again so now they are waiting it out and weathering the storm before it approaches again. Japan not only is oy they are holding public events at limited capacity as well, and not small events, big events.

If americans listened first and foremost when shit was actually going down and closed before the wave got to big, the cases could be half right now, hell all of america never really even shut down. And its also proven that masks and social distancing work not just where I live but everywhere else where its done. Why do you think I can go to the gym freely, go to a movie, get my hair done etc along with these safety practices? Its because they work.

That's kind of disingenuous as states opening started in may but went through several phases with the major re-openings of bars etc occuring in June or later for a lot of states.
Also doesn't include the right's own protests of wearing masks and demanding haircuts...

I think i mentioned this before, back in march when the spike are beginning to happen and we got stay at home order. IF we completely isolate every single person in the country for 2-4 weeks, we could have potential kill of covid 19 within the usa. Given the nature of virus needing a host to survive, it will die down. People were telling it is impossible.... why is that? What if we give ample warning about it and made sure everyone have enough food and water for 3-4 weeks. Instead of a very short term pain, now we have potentially months or years of society and economical pain.
people on dialysis, you just have to die.
people on chemo, sorry you have to die.
people who live in food deserts, have fun starving
people who need to work to pay bills, good luck waiting for that welfare check. Pray it arrives in time

Real life isn't a videogame.

Shutting down everything is insane and seemingly impossible in the United States. We arent communist china either. The government wasn't going to march troops down the streets to enforce lock downs and they weren't going to pay enough to keep everyone home. My job was called essential and I've had to go out to work since this started without any hazard pay.

Maybe things would be different if this was like a hollywood movie pandemic with bodies piled in the streets, but this isn't killing enough.

We will probably end up with less death as end result. Is meh freedom worth so much death and potentially years of depression economy? What exactly is "freedom"? Freedom to do w/e people want to do, damn the consequence or limited freedom to do w/e we want within the limit of society will tolerate. I think we are personally in second but as we have seen people who completely mask mandate that they think it is the first.

Well thats pretth much what happened at least to the best ability in free countries. 15 days to stop the spread started on march 16th. That turned into 45 days. Most of the US was locked down for 45 to 60 days. Some more some less. Most of Europe and Canada was also locked down for 2 months from mid to end of march till mid may or so.

The only other step would have been to weld people in their homes and close anything that isnt power or water. But ya thats not happening in the west.

I know you got your medical degree from reading antivaxxer fb posts for a few hours.

Do you understand that the "2 weeks of incubation" and then the "two weeks of being sick and transmitting the disease"
is just a fucking statistical average?y

Sometimes, some people get a bacteria or virus, but they never get sick. Rare freaks of nature.
They co-exist with the disease. The disease never make them sick, and their immune system never triggers.
They basically become carriers and infectuous for not two weeks but for their entire life.
They never get sick, they never get over the infection. They just co-exist with the virus. FOREVER.

That is how viruses work.

The median incubation period is 5-6 days, not 14 days. 98% of people display symptoms by day 11.

sometimes i wonder if the people who say "oh just shut everything down for months and stay home" just sit home collecting ssi disabilty

I think that most people who favour shutting down an entire country for three or four weeks understand how difficult it is on the economy and what a sacrifice it is for 95% of the populace - but they also understand what’s awaiting on the other side: a nation in which the virus is under control... a nation that can re-open with restrictions, but can resume life with near normalacy.

Imagine what it’s like for New Zealanders right now with just 23 active cases - all of them under close observation.

Imagine what it must be like if you have beloved elderly relatives living in Florida?

Shutting down under full lockdown is the only way to halt the virus at present. There is no other strategy, especially in light of herd-immunity being removed from the table.

Herd-immunity can only happen with vaccine, other wise the death rate will be way too high. What people refuse to understand is that right now there no fucking light at the end of the tunnel for usa, infection keep getting higher with our extremely shitty contract tracing.

I am curious on why the infection rate was so high starting in March-april since nearly the entire nation is under lockdown, but a very very weak and shitty lockdown.

To fight this, we NEED to know where people are getting infected. This is why usa is so fuck up right now since we are basically not even allow to fight it thanks to HIPAA and muh freedom. Lockdown, knowledge of hot zone and infected area, mandatory mask and social distance are our weapon in this war and half of the people refuse to use them.

This virus is NOT GOING AWAY, period. Look in the other thread, the lockdown lunatics are talking about how cases are rising in places that were thought to have “beaten it” with mass compliance. Places like Belgium, Netherlands, Australia, etc. Any time a place opens up and people start to interact, the virus will spread. Because it is a virus. The reason why Texas/Florida/CA are getting cases now is because they locked down before the virus had a chance to get there and spread. Whereas current information says that it was spreading more or less uncontrolled as early as January in New York and New Jersey. The most likely thing we see is that Texas/Florida/CA/AZ/etc. start to see cases fall in a NY-like pattern as it moves through the population. Again, because it is a virus.

Mandatory masks and social distance and lockdowns ARE NOT GOING TO STOP COVID. It’s just not. Get it through your skull. This is our reality. We have to learn to live with this thing. It’s a virus, yet luckily for our sake, it is one that poses almost no risk to people under the age of 60 or so. We’re not dealing with smallpox, or even the Spanish flu. It’s a virus that doesn’t even show symptoms in ~40% of cases. It’s not that big of a deal.

Masks and mandatory social distancing are just things that people do because they want to have some control over an uncontrollable situation. “Oh this isn’t spreading because it’s a contagious virus that spreads, it’s because Joe over there isn’t wearing a mask.“ Give me a fucking break.

I already explained what a “full shutdown” looks like., It is absolutely untenable and unfeasible, and will cause many many many more people to die than the virus actually will. Lockdowns cannot and will not stop COVID. The point of a lockdown is to manage the spread, which we did. It’s not productive. By the end of April, most new COVID cases in New York were people who were locked down - non-essential workers. So this thing spreads even if you’re shutting down tons of stuff.

Read what I wrote again. Not that long ago, people would have added the countries I mentioned to your list. That changed, as things opened and people interacted. It will there too. You’re speaking strictly of the current present situation, with massively reduced travel and overall restrictions.

No fatties?

Corelation to fatties and high deaths pretty strong. Africa and Asia not a lot of deaths and not a lot of fats.

EU and USA + Mexico lots of fats lots of death.

Lol.

Japan is funny since their tracing is completly analog and they never really did a lock down. Some even accused them of lying about the whole thing for the olympics.

They seems to control it much better. They are both heavily populated. They open with restrictions and seems to do fines. The things they do not have a are idiots who crowds bars and restaurants.

China epic center at Wuhan had tons of death too and no fat people there.

South Korea is where they contract trace well, we should and need to copy their method. Japan is a weird case but they had the mask culture and a bit of clean freak and yes I heard about the rumor or cover up but not ever Able can cover the amount of dead.

Good question, did the people who got covid while lockdown "really" stay inside their home at all time beside go out to buy essential or they treat it like a vacation? I am in Chicago and I stay home at all time beside to work and buy food. If I can stand lockdown, why can't other people?

Wuhan doesnt look to bad now. What 4 k deaths for 10 million people?

Wuhan is the size of NYC. Compare the numbers.

China has 1 billion people and look at their deaths. Not many dead skinny chinamen.

Lol. I mean ya there is no proven cause or effect but from the co morbities its clear that being fat is not helping you at all against this virus.

No one can copy SK there just to good at it.

Virus is virus its gonna do its virus thing.

USA is too divided. It is an invisible enemy and it is war but you are never going to win a war if you cant unite. Japan and SK united to fight the virus.

Let me ask you this. Why is a 25 year old an idiot for wanting to go out to a bar and hang out with his or her friends? There is virtually zero risk to that person. Many of them live alone and don’t pose risks to elderly people. Why do you feel the need to impose this toxic mixture of totalitarian control and busybody meddling to people who just want to live their lives? Life is not zero risk. People have the right to determine what they are and aren’t comfortable with.

I‘ve probably said this 100 times on this forum but the lockdown can’t eliminate the virus. The goal of the lockdown originally was to “flatten the curve” and manage the spread so people who need medical help can get it. But somewhere along the line people got this idea in their heads that they can eradicate the virus by staying at home or wearing a mask... and they just can’t. It’s not going to happen. The virus is going to spread.

I don’t know. I’m just telling you the facts. Most cases in NYC were in minority areas which based on observation and news seemed to have lower levels of lockdown compliance. I live in one of the more compliant areas which had less cases and now shows lower antibodies... but the virus will come for us too! Thing is... unless you want the cops to start going gangbusters on anyone breaking the lockdown, that’s the situation. it goes back to the original point that the lockdown cannot and will not eradicate the virus, and imposing further controls will not do that either. It’s a virus.

They don't, they are under lockdown or severely restricted. Once they will lax their restrictions it will go up as if lockdown didn't exist.

It doesn't matter what they do. Because if some new guy will come from abroad whole thing will start again. The only way to beat covid is to expose most of people to it and get through it much like any other virus. Once most of people will get through it next time someone from abroad will come he will maybe get sick 2-3 people but all of those people will be in contant only with people who had it and are immune.

The only way to stop it had China back in december when first cases started to pop up. Once it is out it is out and no matter how you do it it will get to everyone sooner or later.

Because the very same 25 years old still interact with other like work, grocery shopping. There are plenty of old people who work at those essential business. Florida just add another 10k case today ....m where on earth and how they got so many.
