Back in March, why was complete isolation of every single person in usa consider impossible to kill off covid 19?

Wuhan doesnt look to bad now. What 4 k deaths for 10 million people?

Wuhan is the size of NYC. Compare the numbers.

China has 1 billion people and look at their deaths. Not many dead skinny chinamen.

Lol. I mean ya there is no proven cause or effect but from the co morbities its clear that being fat is not helping you at all against this virus.

No one can copy SK there just to good at it.

Virus is virus its gonna do its virus thing.

USA is too divided. It is an invisible enemy and it is war but you are never going to win a war if you cant unite. Japan and SK united to fight the virus.
More like people I. USA is too selfish and self-centered.

OP and people who support the OP are so stupid they can't possible be persuaded out of their stupidity.

An entire month of food rots in the fields unharvested.

Power plants shutdown because they don't operate on autopilot. So that months worth of government food in your freezer and fridge goes rotten. Elderly people die from lack of AC.

Everyone who would have lived if they could have made it to the emergency room dies, heart attacks, strokes, etc. Criminals do whatever they want because the police are home.

You can come up with a thousand consequences of a full lockdown no exceptions that are much worse than COVID 19.

Oh, OP wasn't talking about those things. Those people would still work. Then guess what, the virus isn't eliminated because in reality most of the economy is essential. Because if you allow farmers to harvest the fields, well they need mechanics to maintain the tractors. They need truck drivers to transport the product. They need the canneries and food processors to work so the food doesn't spoil. Those trucks need maintenance, new tires, roadside assistance. Those power plants need replacement parts, service companies with specialized skills to fix the stuff. The list goes on and on.

I already explained what a “full shutdown” looks like., It is absolutely untenable and unfeasible, and will cause many many many more people to die than the virus actually will. Lockdowns cannot and will not stop COVID. The point of a lockdown is to manage the spread, which we did. It’s not productive. By the end of April, most new COVID cases in New York were people who were locked down - non-essential workers. So this thing spreads even if you’re shutting down tons of stuff.

This is incorrect.

If you lockdown properly.... a full lockdown with essential workers only... and you do it for the right amount of time... and after the lockdown you restrict movement severely... then you can stifle this virus and then manage it through contact tracing.

If the Chinese had not done exactly this in Wuhan, all of China right now would be suffering terribly - they’re not. New Zealand, a country with far fewer people, locked down just as China did, and now they’re prospering.

These two countries have shown the rest of the world how to manage this virus.

Unfortunately, as with the other coronaviruses, it now appears you can get Covid19 multiple times. This means that a vaccine (IF one can be discovered) won’t have any lasting impact. It also means that herd-immunity won’t work. Herd immunity only works if the people who get sick, and then recover, can’t get sick again. We’re already seeing concrete data that people, just half a year into this thing, have caught this virus twice (consistent with all the other coronaviruses, which you can catch multiple times during your life).

The only option is to shut down. Completely. Then contact trace like crazy. Then watch your borders. If the whole world does this then the virus becomes manageable.

Yeah, what a shock. Human beings in an economy...are essential.

I think people seriously thought that robots would do all of this.

1.) China is suffering
2.) New Zealand is small and sparse. Just like South Dakota here, they weren't hit heavily.

This also doesn't take into account any of the foreseeable and unforseeable problems you will create.

This is one of those things that could work in theory but logistically is impossible. All it would take is a few people out of 300 million to disobey the lockdown and spread the disease among others, and then when we emerge after that lockdown torture, we would have cases start spreading again. Not to mention the economical and logistical problems (food replenishment, emergency illness, etc.)

Think about it this way, we can't even get 100% of the population to wear masks, and you think we could get hundreds of millions of people to stay in their homes for a month, perfectly?

You’d better start digging your bunker then, because what you propose will never happen. And you and no one else has any idea how long absolute immunity lasts. You also don’t understand the immune system at all. Not all infections are equal and usually, reinfections from previously experienced viruses are more mild due to T and B cell immunity.

You have allowed the media to completely warp your mind. There is no death on a massive scale right now. People aren’t dying in the street. Even in Brazil where they literally don’t give a damn, it’s not an apocalypse.

New therapies will be developed. Vaccines will provide some level of protection. And the disease itself is not significantly concerning for the vast vast majority of people.

Human beings have eradicated only 2 infectious diseases in human history. And neither of them were as easy to spread as this. Covid is going to be with us now. And we will adapt.

I am not seeing people in usa adapt. A lot of them pretend covid 19 no longer exist and go out to bars and stuff and ignore mask and social distance. To them it is out of sight, out of mine

Dude you're asking why everyone wasn't able to completely isolate for 4-6 weeks. I don't think you have any idea what a reasonable, measured response is to this disease. I'm pretty sure we had the exact discussion before and you fail to realize that your solution is completely naive to both the disease and the reality of supporting the lives of almost 8 billion people. The nature of this disease makes it both nearly impossible and unreasonable to eradicate completely. It is far too contagious, far too difficult to track, and not nearly deadly enough to warrant the kinds of measures you seem to be interested in. Covid-19 is a disease we can and will live with. You need to start wrapping your mind around that. We will get better at dealing with it, but for a once in a century pandemic, we're doing all right so far.

Also, you fail to acknowledge the sacrifices that most people have made already. Probably because they don't compare to you idealistic "total lockdown". Some of the people who don't adapt may pay a price for that. Most won't because COVID doesn't kill most people. But sacrifices have been made and will continue to be made.
