Banjo-Threeie Debut Trailer!

Probably, and he'll throw in another LBP circle-jerk right after.

i'm so tired of people being on lbp's jock. it better come out and be completely, devastatingly incredible, or the past year of podcasts and message board posts will be proven to have been filled with worthless words.

I don't know what's worse... The hating or the people trying to force someone to love this game...

I think Banjo looks cute as shit, and I like his model design. The graphics look pretty good, although there are issues. This is still in production, there is plenty of time for improvement.

His animation looks tight as well. I was not overly impressed with the stills, but in motion it is much better.

There are a few things that remind me of Ratchet, which is a compliment.

Looks like a cute game...

They outright said that they replaced his abilities with the block building aspect. Who could we believe if not a Rare employee?

They have been cut back, not removed. I would imagine the basics are still there, just not the more elaborate stuff.

Oh and Kazooie is a FEMALE.

PR team lol

We've kind of taken a step back from that and tried to make it a simpler, cleaner approach, obviously with this new mechanic in place. I guess we're all hoping for a clean start, that's what I think it'll do. It's kind of, 'There's your old Banjo games, let's put those in the past, you can remember how good those were, this is Banjo for the future'.

when was a step back ever the future of anything?

I'm right there with you on that, but I generally keep quiet about it so as not to awaken the hounds.

If this game was a new IP wasn't a console exclusive and was made by EA and appeared on PS3/360/PC, it wouldn't get a 1/10th of the defence it's getting now.

If Little Big Planet or Home wasn't console exclusive and made by EA and appearing on the PS3/360/PC, neither of them would get 1/10th of the hype surrounding them.

Lets try this again. If Killzone 2 wasn't a PS3 exclusive and Guerilla Games were instead bought by EA and the game was being released on the 360/PS3/PC it wouldn't be getting 1/1000th of the hype it's getting either because people would actually acknowledge the travesty that was the first overhyped mess of a game in the series. People would instead choose to keep their expectations in check regardless of how fantastic the graphics looked , but then the graphics and PS3 exclusive are pretty much the only reasons people are talking about that game isn't it? :lol

See how easy that is to do while ignoring what makes either of those things mentioned promising?

Even if this game wasn't called Banjo or was a platform exclusive, this game would still be getting love from people like myself that like these kinds of games. It looks great despite whatever the haters want to say. If this was Banjo HD with nothing new and pretty much the same exact thing as the 64 titles, the same people would be here trolling it for being too similar and not trying to do anything new.

Speaking of Shane, he will utterly destroy this on 1Up Yours.

The issue is some people clearly don't get the point, thus we go round and round...
You can't convince someone they're wrong because they interpret something differently than you. I'm sure someone somewhere would look at Metroid Prime with a Mario skin and say it's a natural progression of the series. Hopefully Rare will be able to hold those people and bring in enough new fans to get some decent sales on the game but I won't be buying this and I can understand why a lot of other fans of the series won't as well.

Having loved the N64 Banjos, I've watched the trailer and the other videos of this new Banjo game and I don't like it, at all.

Yeah, you can have fun experimenting with all the pieces of vehicles, creating new ones and all of that, sure. But that's not what I expect from a Banjo game. In fact, I don't want to turn upside down junk to make a vehicle to reach some high place when I could do that by miself before, I don't want to customize anything in my platform game, nor build anything for fuck's sake.

If I want to build something I play Sim City, not Banjo. If I want to customize something I play Need for Speed or Forza Motorsport, not Banjo. Why do I have to shoot guns in my platform game?... there are plenty of other games to shoot things. I'm sorry, but I don't understand all of this changes in my beloved game.

I'm not feeling a lot the art style they are choosing for the game also. But that is the very least ot its problems IMO. It could grow on me. But the "go&create&blow-things-away" part... I don't think so.

And STFU Crushed, you are being a fucken idiot in this whole thread. If someone has something to say about what we have saw of the game, being good or bad, has the right to freely express himself without a bunch of angry disagreeing people coming after him for doing it.

all this whining and no-one addresses the REAL complaint: WHY THE FUCK ARE THEY USING GODAWFUL COMIC SANS AS AN IN-GAME FONT?? what sort of cut-rate visual designer actually uses comic sans IN A FUCKING GAME!

I saw someone "QFT" a Matt Cassamasina review in this thread.

This game is for babies.

It's RARE.

What other fans of the series? :lol

Drinky I don't know... why do other developers use other well known fonts in their games?

Nice post.

I'm not trying to convince anyone, in all honesty I'm just trying to figure out why anyone is against innovation if it moves the genre forward.

We went into that in the other thread. I even posted an Achewood about it!

It actually works here though, for once in Comic Sans' existence. Besides, they're an MS-owned dev. Maybe they had to.

I think the sooner that everyone who is actually interested in this game realizes this the better things will be from here on out.

Majority of the people currently in this thread have never been interested in this game and feel this is their opportunity to get their shots in while they can :)

I'm done arguing though. Fantastic job Rare.

no, it emphatically does NOT work -- it turns a reasonably polished UI into a middle-school party flyer. comic sans is an ugly, unbalanced, poorly-kerned font that should be SCOURED WITH FIRE from all of creation.

The LBP and Killzone paranoia in here is kinda pathetic... So some people don't like the direction of BK3, so now try an piss on another game out of spite?

Those games stand on there own, and don't really need to be in this thread...

Crushed said:
But sadly during your whole playthrough of the game you did not find this.

If it is revealed that is a major part of the game, great, but as for right now, it doesn't appear that way.

It's a redneck bear and sarcastic bird's doodlings.

I'm just curious- have you leveled any criticism towards the videos? I'm pretty excited about the game but I'm surprised by your consistent dismissal of every negative reaction.

Banjo Kazooie is such an old franchise that a game like that would be well appreciated if for nothing but nostagia. Look at how well received New Super Mario Brothers is for offering the same thing the original offered. There are way too few platformers right now if you're looking forward to a sequel to one of the best platforming series of two generations ago, chances are you want more things to be the same than to be changed.

I'm a huge Rare and Banjo fanboy, and I'm loving this new direction. If Rare would have basically released Banjo-Kazooie HD people would have complained that it's too similiar. Rare always seem to attract the worst haters...

Interesting...

As someone who enjoyed the previous Banjo platformers so much. I'm really disappointed with the direction they took for this title. The gameplay itself seems interesting, but it feels absolutely wrong to call this a "Banjo" game. It could very well turn out to be a great game, but it still won't be a Banjo game.

For example, what made Metroid Prime so great was that it took the fundamental gameplay of the previous Metroid games, and translated it well in 3-D and first person. I simply don't see the same in this particular case, but to be fair, I haven't played the game at all.

We'll have to see how this turns out, but right now I'm in the camp that believes a new Rare IP should've been used for this game instead of the Banjo-Kazooie name.

Well, I guess I understand wanting to see more jumping, that would be nice, as well as more enemies. There is also a certain emptiness in parts, and the framerate could use work. I also hope that customizing your own vehicle is actually rewarding as opposed to having only a few "winning" designs.

Oh, and Comic Sans is a pretty meh font in the UIs, I agree about that. But "meh" is better than the "holy shit why" response any of the other 99.99% of the time Comic Sans is used.

So you're saying that jumping, gliding, landing, from platform to platform isn't a good example of a major aspect of BK's gameplay?

Isn't that exactly what we've seen in the footage of this game?

Instead of:

Nicktals said:
I haven't once seen Banjo jump or Kazooie glide.

I meant:

I haven't once seen Banjo jump platform to platform, or seen Kazooie glide (without the help of a vehicle, duh-huh).

Oh, and speaking of assumptions:

Crushed said:
Bullshit. You were trying to say that Banjo did no jumping, just like how you were trying to say Kazooie did no gliding.

Yeah, since I haven't watched any videos. Yet you think you know what I was trying to say? :lol

I'm not sure why you can't see, based on the discussion which had been going on, what I meant by jumping.

I'm wondering how many of the haters of this game don't remember the N64 games at all.

Just quoting you, but a lot of people quoted me on the linear comment. My main point was that the objectives were linear. There is one, maybe two ways to complete the objectives. It's not open. It's pre-set by the developers.

My secondary point was that the level progression is fairly linear. Everything is not open to you at once. The levels in themselves aren't all that linear (you can typically collect the jiggy's in any order), but the level progression is. You have to learn this move before you can access this section of the hub. You have to collect this many notes to open the door. You have to collect this many Jiggys to open this level. To me, that's pretty linear. If I said that the levels themselves were linear then I take it back. The objectives themselves are linear, and the progression is fairly linear.

Oh, and I just played through (Missing 13 notes out of the 900) BK about a month ago.

More of this would have been better to show off in the new trailer as it focuses on more of what people want to see (platforming) and shows off nice vehicle footage that is actually interesting without the cool but over-adrenalized theme music. Plus, that first trailer looks so herky-jerky and unpolished, but also makes the gameplay look kind of pointless and shallow by just focusing on lots of boring-looking clips. Cut better trailers, folks.

Looks great (the platforming aspect, anyways). I'm not too sure about the vehicles, though.

And I'm not surprised to see all the biased scum seeping from the GAF woodwork. Nice to see people bitching about nonsense.

It's very possible the new game will have level progression like this to, although it's not entirely clear yet.

Clearly there are two different groups of gamers, because I most certainly do not.
Yea, that's understandable. The thing is, Rare could have avoided all of this by just making a new platforming IP and letting the gameplay speak for itself, which they did with Kameo.

Because, to me, vehicles don't belong as a focus in a BK game.

I also don't believe it moves the genre forward.

I feel it adds unnecessary vehicles, and, to me, an unwanted gameplay change (the building/customization).

I would have been happy with more of the same. I would have been happier if they had found a way to move the genre forward without, how I interpret it, going against the basics of the franchise.

Banjo needs a bit more weight to him. In those 2 gifs where he jumps onto a box and jumps onto a pole his body sort of flaps around like it's hollow.

I really can't wait to play this game.

A platforming hub gta style world mixed with creating your own vehicles to replace fixed ability's which whatever you want. I'm guessing a tonne of varied gameplay elements and challenges/mini games/tasks.

I can not wait.

I'm on Crushed side of the line, whats not to like, great looking gaming thats bring something new and creative for us to play.

Want something more familiar you probably already own it so go and play that.

i had actually pointed out the use of comic sans a while ago, here

however, in some of the footage the font has been changed to 'digital strip' which is a decent looking comic font although it usually works best for speech bubbles and is rarely ever used for UIs. seems like they're still struggling to find a fitting font.

This is precisely why the platforming genre has been "dead" for a long time.
I say screw 'more of the same'..and I applaud Rare for actually pushing the genre forward.
