It’s such a weird teaser. The looks of the kids was funny at least. Not really sure what they are going for. Margot is great, but not sure this role is for her.

The clever way they're approaching the multigenerational angle for the film is encouraging. And the human study of the product woven into just this teaser that the homage gets at hints at a strong movie.

It brought to mind that Barbie(launched in 59) and 2001(released in 68) were new around the same time.

Trying to tie in to the 50+ year old male sci-fi market for Barbie.....genius????

I wonder if the entire film is this meta or if it is played straight as a kids flick.

mid-late boomers would have played with the product as children, but it's fully part of Gen X onward.

Going through a playlist of 70s commercials to find the earliest I could recall

Brought back a lot of nostalgia, dinners with the tv, and the jingles of other commercials.

here comes Barbie fun... :messenger_musical:

Exposing the sinister cartel of retailers who allow companies to pay for advertising space.
Most of the teaser is an homage to 2001: A Space Odyssey.

To be more specific: the Dawn of Man section of 2001: A Space Odyssey which has often been parodied.

In fact, there are numerous episodes of The Simpsons referencing scenes from 2001: ASO.

TIL btw. Barbie has one of the longest running series of DTV animated movies ever made. Starting in 2001, averaging 2-3 releases each year and this image is is just the ones released up until 2013! There have been at least 15 more since then (the site linked below isn't complete either as it ends in 2020).

Also if you wonder what happened to Mainframe after Beast Wars and Reboot. This is it. Talk about steady work.
