I am cautiously optimistic. If they get 2 RJ-caliber years from him, I'll like the trade. If the Yanks win a WS or 3 while he's here, I'll like the trade. But Javy...too young, too potentially great. Still wish we hung on to him.
Anyway, enough of this hot stove, goddammit! I want the season to start so the playoffs can come around again. That MLB playoffs thread this past October was probably the best thing ever. I registered here for that shit.![]()

Only person I'd ever trust is solrac. He can have my money...

I know Clemens has stated he will only go in as a Yankee. He said he won't show up if he has any other team. I'd LOVE for them to call his bluff and make him a Sox. But, you know they'll bow to those wishes. I thought I heard Boggs wanted to go in as a D-Ray when he retired.

Like Boggs, Clemens won rings with the Yankees and I think that matters more than statistics. Most people will remember Clemens as a Yankee for all his times in the postseason, not that great pitcher in Boston.
I don't buy this argument. Plenty of guys win rings but don't have the stats to go into the Hall. You go in because of what you do on the field. Post-season stats don't count towards your career totals, so if you don't ever win a ring but win 300 games, does that mean you don't get into the hall? Crap.Willco said:Like Boggs, Clemens won rings with the Yankees and I think that matters more than statistics. Would Boggs be the first Devil Ray inducted into the Hall of Fame? That would be kind of neat. And it's not like he was a bad player in Tampa Bay. He was still a .300 hitter when he retired there, so it's not like some players that return to their hometown or a cellar dweller to watch their career die.

Hillenbrand : .310 AVG, 15 HR, 80 RBI's
Hinski: .249 AVG, 15 HR, 69 RBI's
..and I think Hinski played 6 more games too. Can't say I'm going to miss him at all.
Who, Pete Rose? Nah, I say put him in. After he's dead.Desperado said:non worthy HOFers

If you're going in for what you did as a player, then you should wear the cap of the team that you had your best performance with. Is Hank Aaron a Milwaukee Brewer or an Atlanta Brave? If the Brewers had won a championship in his last year, would it have mattered? No. End of discussion.
Sorry. I don't think Boggs one championship season in NY eclipses his years of dominance as a Red Sox(Sock? eh.). If he had stuck around and won a couple more rings, well maybe. But one ring? Big deal.Willco said:You're missing the point. I'm not saying winning rings makes you a better player, but your performance (this includes intagibles!) is at its peak when you're playing for the World Series. It's how you'll always remember the player.

They just fucking did the one thing the Astros couldn't afford. No fucking way in HELL that Steinboss lets the Mets outbid him on Beltran. Unless Beltran truly wants to stay in Houston, then he's going to be in NY.
Yes, but the majority of Americans that cared enough to vote also wanted George W. Bush as our President. I'm just saying, let's see how that shit turns out.Willco said:I think it's a preference thing. If you were to poll the random ESPN viewer, I think the majority would remember him as a Yankee first and foremost.
Then many ESPN viewers must not know too much about baseball.Willco said:I think it's a preference thing. If you were to poll the random ESPN viewer, I think the majority would remember him as a Yankee first and foremost.
