Hmm, after playing a while week, I almost feel like support should get the spawn beacon and recon the C4/claymores.
I think Assault should get the bacon, support should keep the C4, and recon should get the claymores and mortars.

Recon getting respawn beacon is a very strange decision that I don't understand.
To me, having the respawn beacon be the only gadget in its slot is strange. They couldn't bother putting the SOFLAM in it's gagdet slot as well?

This is actually a really smart gameplay decision as it encourages Snipers to not camp in one place far away the whole game (or they just ignore the fact they have beacons, which a lot do). Also some recon players like using the other weapons to get up close and personal, while deploying their gadgets.

There is a part of me that's happy to see the F2000 treated as a beast of a weapon, after being so useless in so many other shooters this generation.

That said, they need to add recoil or something to it, cause the DPS on that thing is crazy.

Hey is there a server option for change the squad size? 4 players per squad seems pretty low. They should make it 5 or 6.

Recons just leave their bacon at their favorite campsite, like that island in Metro. Assault is the class that is always on the frontlines so the team would benefit more if they had it.

Nah, they need to just move C4 to Recon, with C4 and Beacon you would essentially have a Special Forces class.

Whatever keeps the game from turning into another wookie land, wins imo. Recons were a waste in BC2. Here they have a real useful purpose for those who actually play a good recon and not just a sniper not contributing to the team.

Good balance doesn't mean making snipers utterly ineffective though. They should have their uses.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind that. I don't find the C4 all that useful playing as support.

They do have their use. Players just wish they can sit back on a far hill playing sniper and calling in mortars all day like in BC2

Just to throw in a little positive anecdote.

Jumped back in today after getting back from a business trip, immediately got a squad commander spot with just 2 other guys and while I suck at K/D, I got really good at the respawn/spot thing now. Luckily, M.A.G. conditioning always makes me designate the target that we are currently going for just to have the added bonus.
It was a great combination of them shooting down other dudes while I tried to stay alive and spotting and each one covering the other.
Even if we lost, our squad made the top place with all 3 of us being 1-3.

It happens rarely with random people, but boy is it fun when stuff like this happens and the "team play" just clicks.

Where are the patches for the pc version ?

Red Orchestra 2 came out and immediately got patch after patch daily.

Meanwhile DICE hasn't released a single patch yet.

Demize99 confirmed a patch is coming, but no ETA. Most of DICE are on vacation, and deservingly so. They slaved around the clock since august to meet holiday release according to interviews.

I had the worst rubberbanding I have ever encountered this afternoon.

I have zero problems myself. (PC version) Could be your local connection.

it is running very smooth.

Borrowed a mic and squadded up with some friends.

Holy crap, that was so much more fun!

However, the game sound mutes after I use the mic for a while. Really annoying.

I've given up long range sniping as Recon after I realised that any other specialisation beats me in a duel at any range. All weapons have scopes, and it doesn't really matter that I can get slightly sharper scopes when in the time it takes me to fire one shot and realise I should've aimed a bit higher, they can shoot off a magazine and a half of machine gun bullets in every single possible angle that could hit me. I prefer semi-close range sneak sniping with that semi-automatic rifle you get pretty deep into the tree. Love that gun.

About the MAV (or whatever the mini helicopter is called), the "disable equipment" function is only actually for disabling other enemy mini helicopters, isn't it? I never got it to do anything noticable until today when I realised you get the SOFLAM-style lock-on when you fly near an enemy MAV. Sometimes.

What makes the SOFLAM auto-target? I have had situations where it would automatically lock onto something as soon as it entered, and situations where it would only keep locking onto what I had locked on when I left it and not re-gain any new targets.

So I discovered on Container that there is an AA gun on the front end of the aircraft carrier. And that AA gun has enough range to cover 3 of the flags. You can sit there and not only take out enemy air, you can also spot dudes like crazy and kill a fair number of them from long distance. Ground vehicles, too. If you're squad leader you can also orchestrate assaults from that position, laying down a hellstorm of covering fire on the flags as your squad moves in to cap.

I hit a dude with the SV98 at what had to be 450 meters on Kharg. What did I get for it? A hit indicator. No death. What's the fucking point of being a sniper if you can't kill anyone at long range? I mean I guess I can still kill at medium/short range, but then why saddle myself with a slow firing rifle when I can simply use an automatic assault rifle with a scope?

No one should take your opinion seriously anyway since you trolled this game even before it got released. Of your 500 BF3 posts or so, probably only one of them has been positive.

just because stal isnt postive doesnt mean he is trolling or dislikes the game. he is still playing it.

Early weapon damage chart showing actual damage values per bullet for each gun etc.

Looks like I thought it would unfortunately, with nowhere near the individuality of BC2's weapons. Very little balance either with the F2000 being outright better than the other AR's due to rate of fire advantage plus low recoil, and some guns just plain bottom of the barrel (the AK's due to slow rates of fire but no extra damage).

Poor show from Dice.

Edit: The AKS-74u does actually kill in one less bullet at range than the M4, but that still doesn't make up for the 150rpm slower rate of fire plus greater recoil. The AK-47M, AN94 and RPK are just blatantly underpowered compared to the other guns in their class.

Not sure about the SCAR. It's recoil is considerably greater than the other Engi guns so it does need to be more powerful. The PP2000 is terrible, should be 34 at point black range as should the UMP.

Hopefully they just didn't have time to fine tune and will do over the coming weeks.

Doesn't this chart just show half of the equation? It doesn't consider bullet spread, muzzle climb/recoil, ADS accuracy, nor magazine size. Declaring "best gun" based on damage/DPS alone is half the story.

Playing through BF3 to get the sp achievements. Fuck me this game is a buggy piece of shit. NPC's not advancing in levels. Getting nearly all the way through levels for them to bug out before a checkpoint and having to play whole levels again. So poor.

If when Stallion is talking about "Rubber banding", meaning the feeling of being held back from moving quite smoothly (also a weird shaky effect).

I do indeed get "Rubber banding" quite often. Its really annoying.

Also

Stallion is our Tony Montana (we need a bad guy like him)

We had a day one patch and two server patches so far. I think its not too bad.

I think the only time I ever encounter rubberbanding is on Tehran Highway. God I hate that map. Even more than Op Metro, which is actually kinda fun on Conquest.

Does not compute.

PS have you tried Tehran on PC since the update? Gonna give it a shot myself soon, hoping rubber-banding is fixed.

Absolutely. But like I said, its an early chart. The PC files are encrypted so exact specifics like spray and spread will remain ambivalent until/if they're decrypted. There could well be other factors such as varying bullet drop over distances too.

It's easy to conclude that the weapons aren't particularly well balanced though. My own comments are based on a combination of the chart data and experiences from using them which incorporates things such as visible recoil and mag sizes.

WOW WTF. I was capturing a flag with the tank, and there was a passenger with me. Out of nowhere, a jet comes and kamikazes himself onto my tank, telling me I suicided and teamkilled my teammate. WTFF

They should add AA tanks to more than one side on one map in one mode so I can try them out without playing Rush on console. And swap out the jets in one of the CQ maps for CASs 'cause those things are neat.

Enjoying this game a lot on PC but 2 problems:

aside from Caspian most other maps just feel way too small or cluttered for conquest, the points are way too close.

Metro is a fucking piece of shit map and should be restricted to TDM only.

I fear going back to Karkand in that expansion, can't imagine how much of the map they'll cut out to satisfy the morons who want to see an enemy right when they spawn.

:( Dog tags kinda suck that you get from watching that trailer, but I'm rocking the rabbit duck instead of my old t-rex one. Still wish I could get a Dr Pepper code one so I can use the Friday one. :p

I just feel differently--I don't really find anything particularly wrong with the weapons, so far (been playing mostly engineer). I haven't really noticed anyone using any weapon in particular, aside from the IRNV.

I haven't really been on the business end of the F2000 yet though, so...
