That's just the February call where Rajat said that it was possible to run games in 1080p or 60 fps, not that Battlefield 4 did.

Lars Gustavsson with pre-E3 talk on BF4.

Cant reveal much right now but some small tid-bits:

-will show 64 players multiplayer at e3
-will show new gameplay features
-hope to reach PC fidelity with next-gen consoles

64 player MP footage for E3?

4OEN3.gif

Wait... 64 players on the show floor, not the E3 showing of the game.

They'll probably show the PC version, but in the chance that they might show off the console version, it'd be the Xbone version, right?

Dat partnership.

64 player?
so def 30fps then.

You could get 60fps in BF3 on PC with a pretty modest rig... I wouldn't necessarily say so. Why did you doubt 64 players in the first place?

But if they go with 60fps on next gen consoles they will have to pretty much stick to 60fps on consoles for the rest of the gen. I don't know if they would want that.

I'm a bit skeptical about PS4 running BF4 in 1080p / 60 FPS, and if it will, in what state it will be running. We'll probably all know in a few days, but whatever they show at E3 could still be running on PC.

Not sure why you would say that.

Because consoles and I'm a pessimist.

Should be pretty doable actually at the equivalent to medium/high settings.

Isn't BF pretty CPU intense as well? I remember hearing say the CPU in next gen consoles weren't so great? Or was that just rumor?

Interesting. 64 players XO and 32 players PS4?

I reckon Microsoft/EA will claim that it's all thanks to the power of the Cloud, when really it's just the age old advantages of dedicated servers.

This is all hypothetical of course.

I have a shitty CPU and I run BF3 at ultra. it runs at around 45FPS to 60 FPS. I get massive frame drops in city maps like gulf of man and bandar desert

they will both be exactly the same. Look MS and EA have a partnership, you think Dice will make a superior version for PS4? I don't see that happening at all

You can't really compare the CPU's like that.

About BF though, my CPU is some generic quad core AMD CPU and BF3 runs fine on my 5850 maxed.

I know Planetside 2 is CPU intensive for sure, but there will be a PS4 version.

64 players on consoles?? Am I reading that right?

If you've never experienced a 64 player battle in a game, or played BF3 on PC, it is fucking WAR, son.

I expect the PS4 version to look and/or run better, but the XO version to have bigger MP maps, more players etc. At least if the dedicated servers thing is true, but we don't know yet. If they look/run the same, something is afoul because the PS4 has a very easily accessible and apparent hardware advantage. Not a small one either.

After playing Planetside 2, Battlefield's 64 player maps feel tiny and the fights insignificant. I'm actually hoping they push the player numbers seeing several PC mods for Battlefield 2 have 128 players.

Having more players isn't always better. I think Bad Company 2 was a lot more fun compared to BF3 and it only had 32 players.

Planetside 2 is something else though, no game to compare it to.

I swear I remember the original Blops running like crap on PS3 and tons of server issues compared to 360
Yes, because of incompetence. I'm not saying the PS4 version won't be worse, but it won't be because EA have an exclusive Xbox title to sell. Sony's deal with TakeTwo that gave them exclusive content didn't make RDR better on PS3, or even close to as good.

Personally I find games with less players (10-24 say) more fun. Same in BF, COD, KZ etc. When you have too many players it just becomes a cluster fuck. But I suppose it depends entirely on map size and design.

Bad Company 2 was and is still my fav battlefield multiplayer game...
- Great guns
- Great levels
- insane firefights

Hope they remake it in a hd version

Agreed, I like 4vs4 in Halo or 6vs6 SnD in COD.

64 players can become a cluster fuck in some maps in BF3, but it's part of the fun (and sometimes not fun) of Battlefield I guess.

The PS4 version will have the exact same number of players as the X1 version. This dedicated server stuff is just PR crap, nothing prevents EA/Sony setting up their own servers. And in the case of Battlefield, EA has already done this with Battlefield 3.

So can I say the the first half was incredibly boring, but loved the scripted events with the helicopter -> the end of the chase? Awesome stuff, and pleasantly surprised they used that song. And who's the chick? We rarely get a woman in a modern military shooter, so that's pretty cool to me.

I have always been a huge fan of the 64 player support in Battlefield games. Battlefield 1942 was simply AMAZING, Vietnam was cool too! I didn't like Battlefield 2, I wasn't a fan of modern combat and the game ran like ass on my machine. Battlefield 2142 was incredible! And I was simply blown away by everything in Bad Company 2.

I just don't like BF3, I think the spotting system has ruined the fun of BF series. Spotting players from far away and spotting hidden landmines is just lame...there was a really cool stealth factor in the older BF titles (sneaking around the base, sniping campers, planting landmines and expacks in jeeps...)

BF3, at least, seemed to be mostly GPU intensive. I'm not sure exactly how they'll do things with the consoles CPUs; maybe there is some certain strength in their design or maybe there will be a shift towards more effectively using every core. I'm no CPU or computer expert though.

And also, I guess 1080p / 60 FPS was not in the same sentence as "PS4". There's also native 1080p or upscaled 1080p like on current consoles. Who knows?

After playing Planetside 2.

There's very little in PS2 that I felt could compare to the experience of BF3.

PS2 is a beautiful game, but the combat feels sluggish.

BF3, at least, seemed to be mostly GPU intensive.

Frostbite is one of the few engines that, in my experience at least, seems to require a decent cpu.

Going from a dual core duo to a 2500k had a bigger impact on fps for me in BC2 than going from 9800 gtx > 560 Ti.

Battlefield was never about single player. It's strictly a multiplayer game. Don't even bother with the SP

Yeah, I learned that the hard way with Battlefield 3.

Never played it's SP again. So boring. Too much of a chore to go through. I don't get how some of my friends love it.

agreed, I played it back in Feb (only because I lost my internet connection). it was extremely boring

Somebody said it... Thank you.

The lighting & environment effects in this trailer are insane.

Color me kinda hyped.
