Battlefield 4 PC performance thread

Need Help. Whenever I try to launch the game in MP or Single it keeps telling be to download the plug in. I do this and it still gives me the same message over and over. I verified that the punkbuster software is up to date.

Any help??

Anyone have any insight into this problem? I have not been able to play the game at all because it keeps telling me to download the plug in even though I have. I have removed it, rebooted, re-applied it and nothing. Even BF3 is not running due to the same issue.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Origin won't let me play the game. It keeps saying it is unreleased and comes out on October 30. It is greyed out in my games library. Anyone know what this is about?

Sounds like a problem with Internet Explorer, try a different browser?

Hopefully someone answers you. I had this issue earlier, the only thing that made it work finally was closing my browser. And then re-launching the game and having the browser re-open. I had to do this after I downloaded the EXE and then ran it.

But sounds like you've done that + more and it's still not working. =/

I had that issue in the Beta. The fix was to download the latest Punkbuster or whatever it is called version. Once I did that the issue went away. I forgot to pre-download, so am downloading now so not sure if the issue will persist in the real game for me.

I just mean generally over a game's lifetime, like maybe the performance of a 560 ti or 7850 (or better cards) from around BF3's release to the present, after all the driver updates.

55-100FPS in Campaign, depending on what's going on and how much stuff is going on.

A 7970 on a 720p screen!? what are you doing man!?

For the sake of comparison, I'm interested in seeing some proper benchmarks on how a 7850 performs compared to a PS4 at similar settings (900p with high settings). It looks like it does pretty well in Youtube videos though. Should only be a few days until proper benchmarks though.

The in game "test tool" thing is useless. No matter what it says "BAD" for me and says lower my settings.

i5 3750k OC'd a wee bit
670, factory OC'd
8gb of some ram
Windows 8.1
1920x1200, everything ultra, no vsync

Runs perfect. I'm no rocket surgeon but its probably around 60 fps. Way better than the beta.

Yeah, same here, the test tool is broken.

I'm getting a lot of stuttering during the campaign. FPS goes from 40-60. Haven't tried the MP yet though. This is a terrible SP game, btw.

Computer buffs, I need your help. I want to crank BF4 to the max but feel that my system is in need of a boost. I dont have a ton of money to spend, maybe $100-$150 USD. Where can I make the most impact with those dollars? I only play multiplayer.

Loading levels takes forever, at least 1-2 minutes, maybe more, it sickens me.

Intel I5 2500k running at 3.6GHZ
8GB Ram - two - 2 gig sticks and one - 4 gig stick
Memory Type: DDR3 PC3-12800, DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 PC3-14900

SLI - Nvidia 560 TI's - stock, no clockwork here.

Suggestions? The game runs decently nearly maxed out but could be better and the load times are just the worst.

Runs flawlessly at max/ultra settings with 100 degree FoV @ 1080p. Always above 60fps except in the most extreme circumstances (less than 10 seconds total in an hour of playing) did it drop into the high 40s. Most the time hovers between 70 and 80fps.

I'm getting 70 - 120 fps in multiplayer on Ultra & 4xMSAA.

Couldn't be happier.

I get stuttering too. i7 920 stock speeds. So 1333 RAM as well. Shame because so far it runs pretty well at Ultra without SSAO and any kind of AA.

I'm running at 1920x1200 on my 1680x1050 monitor. Resolution percentage does not seem to be doing anything so far, jaggies are the same no matter if I choose 100% or 200% or 150%. I found downsampling looked less blurry than FXAA only (well of course it does) and performed better than even 2xMSAA.

65+ Average with the occasional dip into the low 50's when SHTF. Mostly hovers well north of 60 though depending on the map

Has it started crashing like nonstop for anyone else? I have been playing for a few hours and just recently I started getting a freeze with sound loop crash.

I'm receiving a punkbuster error any time I try to play online. I've run pbsetup.exe and BF4's punkbuster is fully up to date. I just tried rebooting and it didn't help. Any suggestions?

$40 OC that 2500K - you can get 4GHz easy, probably 4.5GHz even with a $30 cooler (Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO)...watch some YouTube vids to make sure you apply the thermal paste correctly. This is an often overlooked problem with temps - it will get hotter with too much thermal paste. And hotter with not enough. :)

$70 Buy Windows 8 Pro, then get the free 8.1 upgrade once installed.

Then see what's up. Maybe after that upgrade your video cards - but that's $$$. RAM at 16GB would be nice...but probably not necessary once at Win8.x.

Manually reinstalling punkbuster could do it, also port forwarding. This explains how to do both.

Also, disabling UPNP in your modem can help, it solved all connectivity issues in BF3 and the BF4 beta for me so it is worth a try if you know how to do it on your modem.

If anyone is getting stuttering and they have HT on... turn it off. Definitely removed all the stuttering I was getting in SP, haven't tried MP yet. I have no clue how Hyper Threading makes the game stutter like crazy, and how this got past DICE I don't know.

I'm sure windows 7 is the big killer for me

btw i'm using 320.49 drivers. Game runs well though, no stuttering

Yup, disabling it fixed my stuttering as well. Funny enough, they missed this again. There were issues with hyper threading when Battlefield 3 launched as well.

Downloaded 13.9 drivers from AMD and that helped FPS a good clip. Now full ultra @ 900p, no AA, HBAO. Run 35-45fps, 60fps if indoors and not much going on. This with a 6770 lol.

SP I was getting in the low mid 30s- low 40's with Ultra settings, 2x MSAA. Just played a few minutes of it to get a feel for the performance.

Multiplayer same settings I pretty much stayed between 40-45fps the entire time. The Titan is most definitely putting in work pushing three screens on one card. Looks great though.

Thanks for the punkbuster tips. It turns out that PB was completely missing from my BF4 folder, and pbsetup was defaulting to my BF4 beta folder when it was trying to install.

I'm getting 80 fps in multiplayer but when I stream with OBS to twitch, the game feels very choppy even though it says I'm getting 40fps+. I'm streaming at 1200p, 30fps, 3000kbps. Any suggestions on how to change my stream settings so I can play smoothly?

I did not know where to post this, so I'm going to do it here.

IF I was to cancel my PS4 preorder I would invest that money into my current PC. The problem is I think I'm a bit too far behind in terms of tech. My system would probably require a complete rebuild.

I'm sitting on:

i7 930
MSI GTX 460
6gb Ram

Is it even feasible to get my PC up to PS4 BF4 levels? Ideally 60 fps, 1080P, and solid graphic settings.

I give up. Hopefully by the time I come back from vacation this weekend, things will be fixed. Can't even play a full game without it freezing and crashing =/

Update

All maps run great aside from Siege of Shanghai. Even on a 32 player oblideration I was only getting 48-65 FPS with my rig. Something is extremely intensive on that map.

Anyone else getting fps drops into the single digits or teens while playing SP?? I checked my CPU performance while it did that and it went from 80% to like 30%. It's random and does it every few minutes or so.

Yeah at 2560x1600 with a 290x it varies a lot! Can maintain 60 on most maps but then it can drop to 30 in some bad spots.

Seriously no, even my gtx 580 was having issues...

Whoa, this was worth it. To anybody who is experiencing stuttering and you don't think it's due to your hardware, I would echo recommendations to install Windows 8. Last night it was pretty much unplayable for me, even on the lowest settings. I wasn't really enthusiastic about upgrading my OS right now, but after installing Windows 8 it runs smooth as butter on high settings in MP and never drops below 70 FPS.

And I've only got 4 GB of RAM, so hopefully after I upgrade that I'll be able to run it on ultra.

Yep can attest to that... not sure how much is due to the os vs very poor optimization for win 7 however...
